How many times a day do you feed your Yorkie? Just wondering. |
I tried cutting back to 2 meals per day when Max was full grown, but he insisted on having 3. It works better for both my boys to have their daily intake spread out instead of 2 large meals. |
Mine are fed twice a day. My husband feeds them when he gets up for work every morning and I feel them in the early evening. |
3 times per day, but not equal amounts each time. I divide the daily serving in half: she gets half at breakfast, 2/3 of the other half at dinner, then the lil 1/3 of the half at night. |
Three because there is too much volume for her to have just two... Kibble for a healthy adult would be 2x daily or free fed here. |
I always free fed, but Baby was just getting fatter and fatter and sometimes Bug would be a bit of a bully when the newbies were trying to eat, so we started feeding everybody twice a day. Well, Baby continued putting on weight and they would sometimes play around instead of buckle down and eat on that second meal, soooo, we've now dropped down to one meal a day and they are all doing just fine on that. Who knew? All six of them from the 85 pounder all the way down to the smallest one are doing great on one meal per day, served in the early afternoon. The rescues have filled out nicely, Baby is slowly starting to pare down, everybody is healthy and no one acts as if they are starving. We feed Blue grain free. Baby is extremely sedentary compared to everyone else.... |

I usually feed 2x a day and they get treats throughout the day. I've started giving the carrots and other veggies as Hot Rod has a tendency to put on weight easily. If they don't finish their meals, I sometimes will leave their food down. |
Generally, I only feed once a day. It's just what has worked for us. Jackson rarely seems hungry in the mornings but he does have kibble out for him 24/7 so it's available if he truly wants some.... but his actual "dinner" comes around 6pm which is kibble and wet food mixed (or whatever leftovers are in our fridge, chicken, steak, etc). The only time he gets breakfast is the pre-made raw food. I get Stella & Chewy's and about 3x a week, he gets a patty or two for breakfast. He eats that up like a champ! He's still never interested in the early morning though... the earliest he will eat is usually 10am. If he gets a lot of activity during the day (sometimes we'll go on a 2 hour walk around 11:30am) sometimes I'll give him half of his dinner early, and then the other half around 7pm. Sorry for the long post, haha. I kind of mix it up I guess and base it off of his activity level for the day, if he seems hungry, or whatever. Oh, and treats. Yeah, he gets sort of a lot of treats. I've been using "Canz Real Meat" treats (you can get on amazon) they are really soft and small and easy to break into tiny pieces though so maybe he doesn't get all THAT much... I also buy those cheese sticks from the grocery store to use occasionally since he goes crazy for those or I use real chicken. He is 16lbs and gets 1/2 cup of kibble with a tablespoon or so of wet food. |
Sasha gets fed 2x a day. She also gets treats throughout the day. |
We are two-timer a day household here and some veggie or natural goodie snacks very sparingly given during the day. |

I free feed Natural Balance Sweet potato and venison dry kibble. Out of my 4 yorkies, none are overweight and I have no food aggression at my house, we are very lucky. |
I free feed Molly and shes not overweight. She eats when she gets hungry and never gorges herself. |
:) twice a day. ( 8am and 5pm) They seem to know what time it is, as they come to me at those times. lol |
3 times a day for Winston plus his kibble is out for him 24/7. At first I was going to say one feeding a day...it starts @7:00am and last til 10:30pm!!! It seems like he is eating constantly... |

Hmmm, I'm hesitant to cut back any more on what I'm feeding because that's the good stuff. I'm feeding 1/4 cup of kibble/homecooked twice a day for 10-pound Eddie and 1/8 cup of same for 4-pound Jillie. They had never been interested in apples or carrots, but last night I tried some frozen green peas and they gobbled them up like they were liver snacks. Think that's healthy to give them a bunch of those a day? |
Three times and a little snack at night.:D |
Bella is a picky eater and Harley is a growing boy :D...so I have kibble out 24/7...so I voted free feed. but I also home cook once a day....Both are at a healthy weight for there size. |

I have dry food out 24/7 so I selected free feed, but we mix in wet food every morning as well. |
I feed twice a day at 7 am and 7 pm. Kaji's total daily intake is less than a 1/2 cup or Orijen a day. The only thing he is allowed to snack on as much as he wants are lettuce whites. He loves to sit and crunch crunch crunch, and I love that it's low fat and has lots of water in it already. Kaji is a bad water drinker, and has had a problem with cristals in his urine. |
I feed twice a day - once in the morning and once in the evening. They are on Nature's Variety raw medallions which they eat in about two seconds. But, if I forget to defrost and feed kibble, I have to monitor closely because Annie is a slow eater when eating the kibble and likes to take a little bite and walk off to eat it and then Ruby hurries over to Annie's bowl to take a bite when Annie walks off then rushes back to her own bowl. I used to feed Annie in another room, but now she won't eat at all unless her bowl is near the other two. Ruby and Sophie are always hungry. Annie is the only one who eats and is satisfied until the next meal. They also get their treat of romaine lettuce which they LOVE. |
I feed 4 times a day, very small amounts each time. I started this schedule when Mylee was a baby and needed more frequent feedings, and have just never been able to get off of it. Of course, if my schedule was any different, I would have to adjust their feeding schedule, but it works. |
We feed one time a day in the morning, mine get Primal pre-made raw. Then, in the evening everyone gets a treat or two. If I am home during the day, they usually get a treat or two then too!! |
I feed Minnie her daily amount and leave it in her food dish so she can eat when she wants to. So i basically free feed but she is not overfed at all. |
feeeding I feed two times a day, morning and again in the evening around 7pm.:) freeze dried chicken treats during the day.. my little girl Lola (3.5lbs) comes to work with me! |
I also free feed Princess, though I only give her the recommended amount, and she rarely even eats that. She also gets quite a few treats, for potty & training...it was very hard to find a treat that was small enough to give several times a day and she likes...but I finally figured it out...for now. |
Four small meals a day. That doesn't work for most people who work, but this is how they feed at Yorkie Camp and recommended by T's vet because of her battle with colitis. |
I free Feed Lucy, she never emptys her bowl, it only holds a 1/2 c of food. The treats I have gives her diarrhea So we stopped them. |
