Outside totally. I'm home all day for the most part, so it works for us.

I agree. I think potty pads are wonderful...and we change ours so many times I'm beginning to think it was a missed stock option!!! lol "but"...
I wish mine used their doggie door more. We have multiple decks and one is 12x12 outside the kitchen, so we chicken wired all around (so they couldn't fall through - we have a pool and it would be extra dangerous if they got loose) - put in a doggie door that opens to an "outhouse" - about a 3x3x4 wooden box (former dog house without the steeped roof - roof replaced with an open/shut lid (for easy cleaning) with 1/4 plexiglass cut out on top for light), potty pads in that...then a door (that can be open/closed) so they can go out on the deck in the spring/summer/fall for fresh air. Which was working great until Gracie just upped and decided she'd start pooping on the deck-bypassing the outhouse!

Anyway, blah, blah, I went off in some other direction, which happens alot !!! lol ( I think I'm just proud of the Yorkie's "yard"...lol)
So potty pads, if kept 'clean' and changed are great. And yes, they "get it" when you take them places and bring a potty pad. Our new pup was dog door trained so she goes out there "most of the time" but doesn't always make it (yet). As I've said before...could be other foods, but the Royal Canin makes the poo hard and smell free and easy to pick up off the potty pad and flush.

Winston is outdoor trained, literally from day 1. I do believe he would explode before going potty in the house, he can hold it forever it seems. Although he has never had to as we take him out regularly...if he needs to potty or not.

Outside, however I am home all day so it works for me also... I have to say I still take her out every couple of hours and for a few walks a day!!

No wee-wee pads for me. Mine use the great out doors. Occasional accident at the door only when sick.

Scoober is finally outdoor trained, he was litter box trained then potty pad trained...he would run in from the yard to potty on his pad in the bathroom!

Now we're all out door here but I want an AKC potty patch for the covered patio now for rainy days I'm tired of hosing off the patio LOL that still counts as outdoor right?

Indoor and Outdoor - It depends on the weather. This past winter we had so much snow he had to use the pee pads inside until we could shovel an area. The snow was just too deep. Also if we have bad rains, like a n'oreaster, he uses the pee pads. Now that the weather is finally nice, outside.

Mine are indoor and outdoor. Jett mostly uses potty pads and Bella now mostly goes outside to potty!

Favorite the doxie is outdoor all the way, and that's what we are going with for Whit also. I'm a SAHM in Florida so that's our obvious choise. :p

Has anybody noticed that their pad trained dogs prefer going outside when given the chance? Jillie used to use the pad daily at the beginning of the winter, but now she can go weeks without using it. Fortunately, she still returns to it when she needs to.

My boys prefer to poop outside, but they are happy to pee on the pad or outside.

Teddy is really funny. He lived with our breeder until he was 8 months old and was fully outdoor trained. Now he will pee when we go on walks, but he still runs straight for the pad when we come inside. He can hold it for hours if we are out somewhere, but he is a frequent ritual piddler at home: after meals, after naps, after play time.

Outside trained with a 99% success rate :). Even though our winters can be harsh Sophie prefers to go outside. I stay at home with her and let her out frequently. She will sit by the door until I open it for her. If I'm not here when she needs to go she will go downstairs in the laundry room (where I put a pad) about 1% of the time. She's such a good little girl :)!

Tibbe is outdoor trained. I think he loves leaving his scent out there for the whole world to smell. lol

Princess is still a work in progress....she was doing great outside til about Jan. when she would just stop, sit & shiver or try to walk on 3 legs cuz she was so cold...that was with a sweater & winter coat on....so i started the pad training (that she could not grasp in the very beginning), and she's been doing good. just today she finally pooped on the pad (1st time):D, but she's been pooping in the bathroom for quite some time now.:rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes: we've been going out more that it's warmer but i still want the pads as a backup as i have health probs that don't always allow me to take her out.
and like others, i immediately flush the poop & change the pads frequently, i've never had a prob with the smell, plus i guess if i need to i can always turn on the exhaust fan.;)
