Jada and Bogie are coming up on time for their annual. I was going to go every 3yrs, but after talking to DIL who is vet tech at my vets, I am going never.(she said most owners around here with small breeds are doing no boosters as it is very hard on these little ones) After the horrible things that have happened to members here in the last couple of weeks I just can't justify the boosters. My two are rarely outside, are not around other dogs except my families dogs and It is just not worth the risk IMO. I do my own grooming and I can't see why they would need the risky vaccines. |

Jackson 3 sets of puppy shots at 8 weeks, 12 weeks and 16 weeks. Then rabies a bit after (I think he was 6 months). Then, after he turned 1 year old, he got the DHPP again along with bordatella (we go to dog parks alot and groomers, etc) and he already suffered from kennel cough once. He just needs rabies in May and we're done w/ shots, except for rabies every 3yrs. |
Piccolo will never receive another vaccine, due to a very serious reaction. (Vasculitis) She does get titers, though. |
I have been using Luv My Pet and after the vet does the puppy shot series, I have the full scale of vaccinations done at 1 year and then again at 2 years. At 2 years, my yorkies get the 3 year rabies instead of the 1 year. I have experienced slight problems with 2 dogs and thought I was doing what was best for my yorkies. Now... I am not sure that I know what to do. It sounds as though I should only vaccinate when the circumstances require it after the 2 years boosters and give the rabies as mandated by law. My poor babies had all of their vaccines from 1 year on at 2 sessions. I had no idea I was putting them at risk. They are all on heartguard and comfortis. Are these meds acceptable for good health in yorkies? I love my little ones just as all you do but we are out there in the dark with vets and other like interest telling us our babies must have all of this. Why is CDC and Fed. AG not representing us accurately and watching out for the "best health" options and making more vaccinations subject to very specific situations. We need to be able to trust the governing and gathering of statistical information and the mandates that come from them. What is the best recommendation for our little yorkies according to this forum? These babies are mostly under 7 lbs.; don't the veterinarians care about these little guys and what they are doing in the name of "Greed"? Mary of Yorkies in Common |
MY vet will really be upset with me... I recently decided no more shots except rabies!!!!! I really did alot of soul searching and research.:aimeeyork:animal-pa:animal-pa |

there is a thread in the YT Library about vaccines. That would be a good place to start. :) Unfortunately, the CDC is not the place to look to learn about this, but that's all I will say about that. :) You could start by looking at the AAHA. Sometimes it is greed. Vets need the revenue from vaccines to stay open in some cases. Other times it is a hesitancy to go with the new protocol because they may think it hasn't bee studied enough, etc. or just not thinking that annual vaccines do any harm. |
None, except for the required rabies shot. |
bumping as want everyone to take this poll |
we stopped vaccines years ago and have not seen a vet since... and our little one is doing gr8... he was always sick after going to the vet but years ago i woke up: Vaccines + Flea meds + Heartworm + antibiotics for this or that +++ for what ever else they seem to decide your dog needs at that time...plus the bags of foods and treats that are all made of crap... and all that for the life span 10+ years, of an under 10 pound dog ???????
