Frontline or Advantix
 
Wondering about what product is better and which one you use.
Do you use Frontline or advantix?

Didn't vote because it's dependent on the area. If you need tick protection, I'd try Frontline first and then go to Advantix. Advantix contains permethrin which I don't like. I use Frontline Plus when I see fleas. We have used Advantix in the past with no problems.

I need tick prevention!! I am using k9 advantix and I found a tick on Pixie and it was in her skin. 2 weeks after the application.

It's just one of those things. :(
Different products seem to work better for different pups in different areas.
Very frustrating...
I'm going to say that Advantix has more of a claim for tick protection, but Frontline is worth a try.

I've always used Advantix and it works well for us.
Neither one of my boys have had ticks or fleas. :)

To Ellie May: What is permethrin?
(Perhaps I should do some googling. :p)

The only thing I do not like about Advantix is that it is highly toxic to cats, and I have a cat, so I have to keep them separated for a few hours.

Hey Nicole, aren't there reports (or rumors) of Frontline causing thyroid cancer too?

Permethrin has some unfavorable reports. You can Google it to find some info. All these products are terrible honestly, but this one just really doesn't appeal to me. Besides a few reports of death from permethrin, it is supposedly known to make animals feel like something is crawling on their skin.

Oh yeah I am sure. I hate them all, but being with have lots and lots of ticks, I MUST use something...Frontline Plus is my choice, and only because it doesn't have the permethrin in it....

It's my choice too for the same reason and I'd use it in your situation also. I just hate them all. :(

It's all that the 3 vets here sell so we don't get a choice other than the cheap supermarket brands which I wouldn't use on my worst enemy;)

I've only ever used Frontline, and Bandit only got ticks one time at the end of the month when we were at my parents house playing in the woods.

Thank you for starting the thread. I stopped using anything on Kaji in November. I haven't had a problem with fleas but I worry he isn't protected. I also worry the pesticides in the repellents can hurt him also. I don't think I can win. :( I will read up on the links provided and I might change my mind. Anyone try a wholelistic method? I've been told to use essential oils to help repel fleas and ticks.:confused:

There is this powder called diccatomous earth (I have no idea how to spell it) and it kills and repels fleas and you can leave it in your pets bedding even. However, I'm not sure if it would kill them instantly enough to prevent them from being bitten for a second and possibly getting Lymes:confused:
