Do you letyour furbabies eat on the same plate? I will like 2 know if you let your furbabie's eat on the same plate that you do? The reason why i ask this question is beacause i had a visitor today at my home, and i was eating my dinner, so my little boy,CoCoa B. came up beside me and started 2 eat from my plate. Which is okay by me, I don't have a problem with that at all. But this visitor was so shocked by that, I thought she was going 2 have a heart attack in my home, she says 2 me oh my lord,Arzel why are you letting him eat from your plate at the same time that you are. And she says 2 me that she doesn't allow that kind of behavior from her dog's period! Ad I kindly got up, headed for the closet where her coat was at, and came back 2 her and handed her coat, and I said 2 her it's time 4 you 2 leave because CoCoa B., lives her, and not her! And she kefted my home upset of course by this, but I don't care. So how many of you let your furbabies eat from your plate at the same time as you do? |
Sometimes (depending upon what we're eating) I will give them a bite or two from my plate, but they don't share my plate. I don't mainly because they shouldn't be having the same food as I do. I'm not really considering the sanitary reasons though - that doesn't bother me too much. |
I dont allow that...i dont feed my dogs table food....i will break up a banana or give them green beans or such, but they eat out of their own bowls.:) |
I voted no because I don't like anyone - human or animal - eating off my plate:D I will share food with the babies but they know it has to come from my hand. |
With five fluffs..........I feed them all out of separate raised dog feeders with stainless steel bowls. They each know where they are to go when it is feeding time and they respect each other's area. I am sure if I fed them out of one bowl/plate..........someone would not get their fair share! :p |
NOPE !! When I have finished my meal , I will save them a couple bites and I do feed them off my fork. But it is when I have finished my meal.. And they eat there dinner from there own little plates.. However I do feed them on my bed. I put down a clean cloth and set there plates on it, I have a bigger dog in the house that would quickly eat whatever I give them if it was on the floor. |
No, Ellie doesn't eat off of my plate. I will give her a couple bites occasionally only if it won't hurt her. If I leave a plate or bowl sitting around though, she has licked it. I do sometimes share ice cream cones and such with her though. ;) |
I said yes. I feed them off of my plate but they dont literally eat off my plate. |
I normally do not let my furbaby eat from my plate. She has such a sensitive tummy when it comes to people food that there's only certain things she can have. |
i dont let lexi lick off my plate, but i will give her from my plate... with my fingers |
My doggies don't eat my food and I don't eat theirs. They don't eat from my plates/bowls and I don't eat from theirs. |
yes :D- but only after I finished eating and then I will put the plate down on the floor with leftovers which I separate in three sections and each pooch gets their fair share (with no fights I might add) :) |
I probably would have been just as shocked as your guest was. My furkids are spoiled rotten and anyone who knows me will tell you that and I do at times give them something from my plate when it is something healthy or good for them. But I would never let them eat right off my plate when I was eating. What if you had something on your plate that was bad for them? You can't tell them they can only eat certain foods on your plate, or that they are only allowed to eat off your plate certain times, it doesn't work that way. It is a bad behavior for them to learn in my opinion. |
I usually save a few bites and give it to him in his plate. |

no I dont ,but my kids sure do..... |
I love my fur babies just as much as the next guy, but I would definatly not allow them to eat off my plate either while I'm eating, (yuck ) or when I'm done eating. They have their own plates. |
I would never let the dogs eat off my plate while I'm eating or even when I'm finished. I don't like a begging dog one bit, and this will only cause them to beg at the table. I home cook for my dogs, but they eat differently than we do, AND they have their own bowls. ;) |
I wouldn't teach them that. It's bad doggie manners IMO and could be dangerous. Dogs can't have everything humans can and what if my head was turned then one of my dogs snuck a bite off of my plate and it was an onion or a grape? I probably would be a little disturbed too BUT I see your point that your dog lives there and your friend doesn't. |
I don't let Sapphire eat off of my plate. Not for sanitary reasons, though. That I could care less about. I share some food with her, but not off my plate. |
I do not let my babies eat off my plate. i dont even let them eat while i am eating. They patiently nap on a rug or their beds until i am finished . Then they get excited to eat from their own bowls. I taught them this so they know their place in our "pack". They dont mind at all and I am happy they dont beg for food while I eat. It is totally annoying to me to have a pet begging for food while we eat. just my opinion...I love them dearly but must have boundaries.:aimeeyork |
I save some of my food that I cook...I bake everything ,So it's not greasy!! I feed it to them with my fingers or on my fork when I'm done eating. :D:aimeeyork:animal36 |
After we are done eating they may get some leftovers depending on what was made, but I wouldn't let them eat from my plate while I was eating dinner. They have their dinnerware and I have mine :) |
I don't let my babies eat off my plate but I do give them tidbits off of it if it is something they are allowed. I make them sit nicely or they don't get any. However, my husband will actually feed them off his fork or spoon and that is up to him. He calls me "finicky". I won't even drink after another human. I do let them lick my face all over though so I guess that shouldn't be any different than eating after them, LOL. |

:eek:NO, I totally agree with you, I have my plate and my baby has his bowl. I also can't stand a begging dog and I would think if they could eat off your plate they would be standing their begging. I also only give my boy veggies and chicken with rice every now and then. Then again I don't eat after anyone NOPE not me... :D |
I don't intentionally allow Finnigan to eat table food, now when it falls on the floor, there's no stopping him its gone before it hits the ground sometimes. I don't let Finnigan eat off my plate, never will. I'm not sure why b/c I let him lick my face and hands, so its not really a sanitary thing (well he doesn't lick in my mouth and I wash my hands before eating so maybe it is). I just don't want him begging while we're eating. He can lay on my lap as I eat, but I don't want his paws on the table. |
i find that absolutely disgusting not to mention totally inappropriate. my yorkie is totally spoiled but she is not allowed to beg at the table for food. its rude and bad doggie manners. this bad behavior can lead to other bad behaviors. sanitary reasons are also a factor here. do you know where your dogs tongue has been? i don't know about your dog but mine licks the floor, her butt, her cooch, and basically anything else she finds palatable. i have found her picking up stray pieces of kitty litter the cat left behind, i've seen her eatting rabbit poop, sticks, leaves, etc.. in the yard. why would i want that same mouth eatting off my plate and spreading germs? to each their own, but if i were your visitor i would have excused myself before you had a chance to ask me to leave. |

I completely agree. Dogs are dogs and should be treated as such. I think that most of the problems dogs have develop as a result of being treated too 'human'. I used to let my ex-boyfriend's mother look after Cash on some weekends (she used to breed with yorkies), but he learned such terrible manners! I stopped taking him there when I saw them feeding him off their plates (almost out of their mouths) during a meal. It has taken me a year to teach him not to beg (I ask him very nicely if he wants to go out - not the same as ordering him to go out of the room, but the warning works very well). Each to his own, definitely, but a dog should be treated as a dog.:) |
