How important is registration to you? This question has been on my mind lately due to my own babies. One is AKC registered, but the other can't be although I will be obtaining an AKC ILP for him. The registration will play a role if we want to compete in certain classes. But first and foremost, my little guys are my pets. People tend to place a lot of importance on papers, and I was just wondering how everyone here felt about it. :) |
It never mattered to me, I just wanted a Yorkie,,, and I got one. :D They had his dad registered . not his mother,, It want an issue for me. |
Registration doesn't matter to me. My dogs are just like my kids to me thats it. I dont plan to breed or anything like that. I just love them and spoil them rotten. :) :) |
Registration matters to me ONLY because I intend on showing Bailey. If I got him with no intentions on showing, papers wouldn't be necessary |
Papers aren't important to me. I have my furbabies as companions, but if I bred them or showed them, then I would want them registered. |
Registration wasnt even something I considered when I was looking for a dog. All that I required it to be was a Yorkie and a female! And Bella is both and just perfect for me. |
Papers are not important to us at all...both of my girls have AKC papers but we never send them in because we don't plan on breeding or showing either of them...they are just my babies and they don't any papers to say that!!! |
Both of my boys are AKC regeistered, but actually it doesn't mean anything to me because I am not breeding or showing them. I would love them just the same if they were not registered AKC. |
I can't say I'd NEVER have an unregistered dog...but I bet my husband would throw a fit if I ever wanted one. He's a big "papers snob" as I call him, lol. Looking for an AKC registered yorkie helped narrow our search, and also give us hope that we were getting a true purebred that was breed standard, and comes from the like. Now that we have a registered dog, I doubt we will ever own one that's not. But we're getting a little girl! In about 9mo. after we're settled in after our upcoming move! My hubby and I are very excited!!! Now with all that I've learned here on YT, I'm going to really be picky about my next puppy! Not that Sully isn't great b/c he is :p |
Riley isn't registered and TJ is. Registration doesn't really matter to me. I almost didnt register TJ even though I had the papers. I decided to register him though because I am paying for a package to get his pedigree. I wanted to see who his grandparents were, etc. It sounded cool. Registration isn't important to me at all. :D I would take an unregistered or a registered dog in a heartbeat. I love my dogs for who they are, not whether they have papers or not. |
They would only be important for breeding or showing. Otherwise, it is a waste of money as a pet owner. |
I prefer a dog with AKC papers, but I doesn't much matter to me. There are a lot of reasons I would want an AKC dog. Valerie highlighted one of them which is knowing that they are from Yorkie parents. Stephanie has a good point about being interested in the pedigrees as it is just fun to see. |
Rams is registered but with the nkc.. but it doesnt matter to me. Love him either way it goes... |
When I first got Nala I was going to get her registered but then I decided it wasn't that important since she was only a pet and was going to be spayed. |
When looking for a puppy, I personally think it's important that the parents are registered. If you aren't breeding or showing than really what's the point? What do you do with the papers once you get them? |

The breeder told me Shelby couldn't be registered because her dad had papers, but her mom didn't. Is this true there is no way to have them registered without both parents being registered? It doesn't really matter to me I mean I still bought Shelby, I was just wondering? |

What are you supposed to do with the papers? If you're not breeding or showing your dog what do you do with the papers? :yelrotflm :lol tears :grin2: :eyetearss :jump28ib: Quote:

what are the importance of registration? i havent done it yet ... is it important .. idont plan on showing him hes just my lil guy |
To me is not important because im not planning to breed or show. I just wanted a pet. |
Both Missy & Max came with their AKC papers, but I never turned them in. I dont plan to show them or breed them so the papers arent too important. |
i like registration..but if i fall in love with a baby whos not registered it wouldnt be that big of a deal |
I would prefer it but its not necessary. I do prefer AKC over CKC if I had to choose. Not saying anything bad about those who are CKC reg. it just seems like around here its people that don't take care of their pups as much or have tons of different kinds of breeds who are breeding under CKC (not owners breeders and not all). I don't know, I would feel better if they were AKC reg. I guess its stupid but I would feel that the breeders knew more about what they were doing and blah blah blah. Although I really don't know where around here I could find a dog that wasn't able to be registered unless its a rescue or pet store pup. |
I have to add though I really don't know why we turn in the papers. I, since I don't show or breed, kind of take the whole thing half heartedly. My first pup was named Buckwheat the Wonder Pup, nothing like the typical show dog name. |
Papers for me are not important either. Both my girls are registered but I don't plan on breeding them or showing them. |
If registration papers are not important . Why do peoples bothers to look for a reputable breeders when they want a pup ? |

I don't know how to vote. When I was showing dogs - I wouldn't buy one without registration. For home companion, since I'm not going to breed it wouldn't matter. I think it's a good thing if you show or breed. So, how do I vote? There isn't a category for "Necessary when breeding or showing". Sorry. |
