How long is your Yorkie's hair? I know there are a lot of gorgeous, long-haired Yorkies around here, but I've seen a lot of shorter-haired Yorkies as well. This poll is to see what YT has more of and why. |
Short and easy I don't have the time to comb Marty's hair. I'll keep his cut short and then he can go hiking in the summer. |
Kaba's hair does not tangle at all but I can't get it to grow out. So technically its still a short look. The day I can actually put a top-knot in her hair, I'm going to rejoice!! At this rate(she's 8 months) she is going to be 3 years old by the time she has long hair!!! |
Bella has a cottony coat. I swear she matts if the wind blows! I just had her cut short and kept her face long and am loving it. I do prefer the look of a longer coat though. |
i love the long hair but right now only have three out five with it. I keep my show girl in full coat of course aand my two males are in long coats but one of them is about tot lose it at some point today. |
I prefer the long hair but because Hoku matts so easily I keep her cut short and leave the 2 boys long:) |
Crickets is long,, but has been scissor trimmed to a long skirt once,,(ends were ratty looking),, Daisy is kept in a puppy cut now as her coat is so thick and shes so hot natured,, and i spent too much time daily on matts,, Trixies is just now growing out as shes 24 weeks,, but i LOVE the long hair,, breed standard perfect,, but then puppy cut is soooooooo cute and easy on em, oh shucks, ,i love em all!!;) |
I go for the full monty - long coat, topknot, etc. It is a ton of work, but I love a long flowing coat. |
I Groom Them! I personally Groom all 3 of mine, Artie is 4 yrs. old with a full/long coat topnot with a bow and I braid his Tail with a bow too! I bathe and blow dry once a week, I clip their nails and do their "Sanitary Shaves" (their private parts), trim the hair in between and around their paws/toes. My other 2 females Abigail & Tiffany Aloha have long coats too but their hair between their eyes is clipped and their eye brows are cut like bangs, just because it's easier and they do not like wearing topnots but they will tolerate 2 ponytails. Daily they are alot of work, they all have to be brushed twice a day at least, and I wash their eyes out with a wash cloth and brush their teeth. It' worth it when I take them out and I get alot of compliments, people always ask where I get them Groomed at? Abigail is 3 yrs. old and Tiffany Aloha is going on 2 yrs. old their coats aren't as thick or grows as fast as Artie's. I taught myself how to do it after I got Abigail, since it cost me double to go to the Groomers and the always messed-up anyway, what's the point if they don't do it right? I just followed the Breed Standard that was outlined in all the Yorkie Books that I have read. |
I like the long hair look but Hot Rod's hair was so straggly that I decided to cut it short and start from scratch. Hopefully it will come in thicker and at a more even pace, somewhat. I do like the short look however. |
we keep a LONG schnauzer or cocker spaniel cut. We are growing out Brownie's face & he always has a topknot & bow. |
My little Addison has a longer coat, not to the floor, but sliky and pretty. Now my little monkey Brady, he has a short coat to begin with and I had to get him shaved yersterday! He is having the time of his life getting out of being brushed. His puppy hair is just so fine that it was matting close to his skin and he would cry when I brushed him! So Mike, to answer your question, I like the long look of the yorkies just fine but the short cut rules! |

Jeter just turned 6 months old this Sunday and i am letting his hair grow out for now. I love the long show coat look, but i think that a Yorkie is cute in any hair cut! |
I like the long look but only 1 out of the 3 of mine have a long coat!! I think they personally choose their look themselves!! My two older yorkies, Mindy and Booboo, always hated topknots, clips or anything that I would put in their hair! Also, even to this day after they are bathed they want to go and mess themselves up. So for my own sanity and theirs I just keep them in puppy cut. Brooke on the other hand is a bit prissier and has silkier hair! It's still a pain sometimes, especially when she rolls in the leaves!! |
I put down that I liked the look of the long hair, but it's too hard.... I can't say if I know this to be true, but we also have a Shih Tzu, and I couldn't keep up with him! LOL! |
Jolie' has long hair...but since having her puppies she lost alot of it but it seems to be growing back. One of our shis-tzu's has long hair and the other has short hair only because she got into something and couldn't get it all out. It is growing back also...I groom all of them. I love brushing and putting bows in their hair. |
I love all the long haired yorkies on YT...but Bella just doesnt have a thick silky coat:rolleyes: |
I keep both of mine 'longish', but manageable. Except around their faces. This I keep trimmed. They seem to put their whole face in the water when they drink, and then drip all over the floor. I used to follow them around with a towel after they drank! (How crazy am I???). lol |
I like the long hair, but to me, puppy cuts keep them puppies forever. ;) And I can't believe no one picked the last option yet! :D |
I love the short look/puppy cut and I keep mine somewhat short. |
Puppy Cut! Puppy Cut!! Puppy Cut!!!:) |
I selected the "Short hair" answer, but it's not that I prefer that. I prefer long, but Sadie looks better with short & it just works best for us because of the heat. |
Leo is too little to know yet but I do ike the shorter looks |
It is way tooooo "HOT" here to keep his hair long. I think they look so cute with a puppy cut. I take him in once a month for a trim and bath him once a week. One of these days I will learn how to do it myself. |
Winston has a long full coat...but he will not wear a top knot for more then 10 seconds. He is far from standard...but I think he's beautiful. |
I would say.. my Haruka's hair is not short.. or long.. medium length :) |
Well, I chose the first choice, but Chloe's hair never has, (and probably never will) grow to the length of the breed standard. I'd love it, but it just stays a tad longer than her tummy. |
I just like the puppy cut look the best. |
♥Puppy Cut!!♥ All my girls have the puppy cut. With 4, i couldn't manage it any other way. I think they look like puppies and it sure makes it easy for them to wear fufu's. No tangles!! Every morning, they get their faces washed and top knots fixed and off they go!! :) |
