Do you wash their bowls daily? I experimented a lot and settled on stainless steel food and water bowls. I heard they are easiest to clean and most hygienic. The only problem is I don't clean them every day. Am I the only one who lets their food and water bowls go longer than I should between feedings? |
bowls I also use the stainless steel bowls be cause I have read plastics hold bacteria. I clean the every 2-4 days also just depends on what they are eating if soft food I rinse afterwards. and if hard food I'll wait a couple of days. I run them in the dish washer. |
My answer really applies to only the water dishes. I run them through the dishwasher each time I run it (every 2-4 days). Since they eat freeze-dried raw, I use small paper plates and they get thrown away after eating. |
i have to wash it after every meal since they are on a raw diet. And I also do the same thing even if they eat kibbles. I wash their water bowl once a day. i don't use plastic bowls either. i use the lead free porcelin ones. |
I also use stainless steel bowls. I handwash their food bowls after each meal and the water bowl once a day - and then run them all through the dishwasher once a week. |
They get a fresh food bowl every day, and if they get wet food its changed after every meal. |
I also use stainless steel but I really like ceramic better. I wash Buddy's dish after each meal with hot soapy water and replace it in his holder for the next feeding. Fresh water also with each feeding. |
I use ceramic for food and water. The water bowl gets washed when I refill it. The food bowls are washed after each meal cause mine eat raw, too. Oh, I also have a stainless water bowl in the other room... same thing with that one.:) |
I use stainless steel dishes and wash them after every meal, since they are on NV Raw. When I fed them kibbles, I washed their bowls once a day. |
The stainless steel bowls I use for kibble, I wash once each day... the ceramic used for their wet mix, I wash after every feeding. |
I just feed dry and his water out of stainless steel! I wash it out every other day! I give fresh water twice a day- rinse it out everytime! If I give him chicken or something- it is out of another bowl- and it is put in the dishwasher after using! The water thing is a have to, because he drinks a lot- and if it gets to low- he sits and barks at the bowl- and if you don't get there fast- he dumps what is left! And he gets filtered or bottled water! Spoiled Rotten!!!! |
I use ceramic for their dry food and water. Thier home cooked meals I feed out of paperbowls. I wash their water dish every few days. Dry food bowl about 0nce a week. |
I have a fresh flow fountain that I only clean once a week. It has a charcoal filter that is replaced once a month. As for food, I clean the bowl every 2-3 days or if I can see any kind of build up starting it gets cleaned right away. I hate ants and roaches so I am parinoid about having dirty dishes around! Never knew bugs could get so big until I moved to Texas! |
I have two small stainless steel bowls that I use for dry food and wet food. Suki's water bowl is a small random plastic container. They seem to work just fine for us and all 3 bowls are cleaned after every feeding.. |

My dogs eat raw too. So I also put their food on paper plates and I throw then away after each meal. So that's basically 2 paper plates a day (1 per meal). |

I use ceramic bowls for dry food and switch them out every other day usually. For wet food or raw, they get a clean dish every time. |
I wash the bowls that I use to feed them canned food. But not the bowls that I use for dry food. |
Until I read it here, I was using small plastic bowls for Max's water and food dishes. I have 2 cats also and was using them for their canned food too, so I have a LOT of them b/c they were pretty inexpensive and I'd just clean out the water dish every morning and refill it and take the food dishes from the day before and stick them in the dishwasher and exchange them for clean ones. Now that I've learned the error of using plastic dishes, Max has larger ceramic dishes that I think are really cute, but he's only got one for food and one for water, and I've got 2 small ones for his dry food. He gets a little canned food in the morning and evening, so after he inhales his morning meal, I just pick up the dish and wash it, and I wash out his water dish and refill it. (I figure who wants to drink out of the same water you were licking up yesterday...it would be like me drinking out of the same waterbottle all the time?). His dry food dish, I trade off every day or two b/c it doesn't seem like it gets as grody as the other ones. And I wash his food bowl at night after he eats too. It's really warm here most of the time, so I worry about bacteria growing. |
I feed raw so I clean after each feeding. I don't clean the water bowls that often though |

I use stainless steel bowls,, mornings they get some canned food,, i wash as soon as they are done,, but their dry food is free feed and also in stainless bowls,, i wash every 3 or 4 days on average,, as for their water, we have a Drinkwell Water Fountain,, (which we love),, have had it over a year now,, got it after we got Daisy,, she drinks A LOT compared to just Cricket,, the fountain i add to daily, take up and clean every week or so,, cleaning the filter then,, and replacing as needed,, which isnt too often ,, its stays nice and clean,, Daisy and Trixie will lap from the bowl most of the time,, but Miss Cricket only drinks from the running water,, lol,, Miss Priss,, who was raised on bottled water! :littleang |
I use ceramic dishes for the girls. I wash the food bowl after every feeding. The water bowl I wash and change the water every morning and evening. It seems like Gracie is always there for a fresh drink of water.:p |
some ppl actually picked the last choice?! :lol tears I thought that was a joke.. lol I hand wash once a day [usually mornings]--she has ceramic bowls. Unless it's wet food, then I'll try to wash right after shes done. |
I use ceramic bowls for both food and water and wash them both twice a day before feedings. I also leave water out all day, but I do rinse and refresh that a couple of times between feedings as well. And then she goes outside and eats grass and hunts for sticks and bugs...hmm... |
Our automatic waterer (fountain) type is washed out twice a week. I keep it outside because we live in Arizona and they could DIE if not hydrated out there. The dishes for inside are washed daily. There is a free feeder outside that is also cleaned twice a week. (it is plastic) I will be switching to stainless steel dished for indoors. The steel would get too hot outside for them I fear. |
I use ceramic dishes. Mine eat dry food so I wash their food dishes at night when I do our dinner dishes. I usually wash their water bowls every day but sometimes every other day. |
I use stainless steel dishes. I use 5 bowls per day (one water, one kibble and 3 for chicken). I have enough bowls for 3 days, so I put in the dishwasher daily. |
