I live about 1 1/2 hours drive from Yorkshire. We pronounce it more like York-sha which is how I've heard the locals say it! I'm sure thats not quite how the Queen would say it though!!! LOL!!! |

York sherr. |
Wow till today I never noticed that there was a different pronunciation. I have always said York SHYER. I am not sure why I just assumed that was the correct way to say it. Well this is coming from a person that says New HampSHYER. LOL |
York-sherr Man Hi, all I'm in the UK, and my husband is a Yorkshireman born and bred - that is, York-sherr. Since this is the county after which YTs were named, I can assure you that York-sherr is the correct pronunciation. Yorkshire is a Shire county (pronounced shy-er), but is always spoken of with the -sherr suffix. Hope this helps? Lesley x |

When I see the word, "Yorkshire", I read it as "york-shyer" but in actuality, when I pronounce it, I say "york-sherr". Does that make sense? |
I pronounce it Shy-er or shyer and some times sherr lol |
