They have good reviews, and they have a Paypal guarantee. But, I just took a good look at my checkbook balance & I think I need to wait another month or two. Maybe there'll be some holiday deals!

I bought my Canon Rebel XS on eBay - brand new in box. Seller had great reviews. Shipped fast. :)

It was you that made me really start thinking about getting a better camera! I was perfectly happy until you started your thread on it, then posted all those gorgeous new pictures of Jackson. ;)

I've really only started researching cameras. I need to hold of on the impulse buying & find out what I really want before I start looking for a good deal. But, if anyone comes across one in the meantime - please let me know! :)

Holy CRAPOLY! At that price, which is pretty much impossible...you can almost be sure it's a gray market camera....so I'm not sure how you feel about that....just something to think about.

The D40 is an awesome camera, I loved it! It's that I didn't love the lens issue...that really did bug me and I think it'd bug you eventually too. If you wait and can get something a bit more - you will never outgrow the camera, unless you go pro :).

That Nikon Breny got looks great too...I just don't know enough about that particular one to say as much. That one looks to be btwn the D40 and the D90 (but much more toward the D90); the 18-105 lens she mentioned is AWESOME - it's a VR lens and has a great, versatile range.

I thought pretty much the same thing on the price that one place advertised. :eek: And no, that's not something I would be comfortable knowingly doing.

I kept coming back & re-reading the posts on this thread, trying to see which sounded the best for me. If I were to buy right now, I would be seriously looking at the one Breny got. I really don't need a new camera, but I cannot get any actions shots or get a quick shutter reaction so I miss a lot of great shots. For example, I just posted a thread in the picture forum of Jordy - they're ok pictures but he's standing still or laying down in all of them.

Hey, did you see the link Breny pasted has "3 installment payments" of $266? That's awesome! Plus, you can try it for a month and still return it. That might be a nice option when you're closer to buying.

No, I hadn't seen that! Good eye, Ann. And that's through QVC. I've never ordered from them but I believe they're a reputable company. I wonder if you have to wait until all 3 payment are made before you receive the camera? That would be an excellent option for me. Thanks Ann!! :D

No, you receive it right away :D. They charge shipping, if there is any, up front and your first payment. Next payment, not for a month. Love it! And, no gray market worries :). Actually, this time of year, their return policy may be extended thru end of January bc of holiday time...

Ok I am a VERY impatient person...VERY LoL. I canceled my order and ran to best buy and bought it!
I've not read anything yet and just took it out, charged it and started snapping LOL. I will attach a few but I need to read. I used the lens it came with and not my bigger one.

The guys at Best buy told me the D5000 is new...last month? And its between the D60 and D90, so thats what sold me. Better ( not saying the d60 is bad..just what they said!!!) then the d60 but under the d90.

I have NO CLUE what I'm doing but I will say...the lens that came with, does zoom much at all so I'm glad I got another.

I don't think mine look as good as you guy's????

I think they look really good- Play with the Av (or maybe A for you mode) and with your f numbers- if you bring them WAY down- your pups face will be in sharp focus and the background with be blurred. If i don't shoot in automatic mode- i shoot in aperture mode. Also, I know when I upload my picture to my computer- I edit them- which is probably why the color looks more sharp. Do you have a Mac? i know iphoto has some editing fuctions. When i save up enough money i am going to get Lightroom- an editing program.

i always put mine in macro mode when taking close ups like that :D

OK thanks! There is an "A" on the dial. So i set it to that and then where are the f numbers? (I promise to read my manuel!lol)

yes I have an Imac. I have Photo shop for mac that I use. I will have to check out lightroom. I love picture software!
