Well i have the kit len's 18-55. It's great but you will "want" a larger len's i have a 70-300 I LOVE it.

The avatar biggest size on YT is 125x125 so I use paint shop pro 7, start a new image at that size, and then just copy and paste my pic into it. Kinda hard to explain what I mean but when your photo isn't exactly 125x125 it will make it smaller sort of. I made you one:

OK so I know its either Canon or Nikon and I've read they are both awesome, but there are so many different models its confusing me. I found these too

Canon EOS Rebel XS 10.1MP Camera Kit at HSN.com

Nikon D5000 12.1MP Digital SLR Camera with 18-55mm Lens - QVC.com

But I really don't know whats best to get. if I'm spending this amount on a camera, I don't want to out grow it either, ya know?

Also, can someone explain what the different lenses do and what I need them for?

As you can tell, I am a big newbie :rolleyes: soory if my questions seem silly!!!!

you will not outgrow either of these cameras- like i said before- now you will just be buying lenses that change your photographs- you should not have any need for another camera- unless you plan to do this as a profession.

I don't know much about lenses. I only know that the 50mm helps create that blurred background effect. You might want to do some research online about lenses before you buy any.

LOL I just tried that with mine and it worked! made mine bigger, I just resized a pic to 125x125. Thanks for the tip :D

The higher the Number on the lens the further object you can take a picture of & it will look close.

If your just looking to take picture's of the babies the kit len's is fine. Later if you want to get another lens to play around with i would say to get to 70-200.

Breny - I know how you feel buying a DSLR - it can be SO confusing.

I had the Nikon D40, I now have the Nikon D90. The D90 *does* have the "live view", btw, which is where you can view your picture on the screen, rather than thru the eyepiece - it looks like the Nikon D5000 has this as well (the camera you linked to).

As far as lenses, it's even more complicated, imho. It really depends on what you want to do and/or what you take pictures of. A zoom lens is great for all kinds of things - but a 50mm or 85mm Prime lens are fantastic for portraits and blurred backgrounds (ie "bokeh" and wide apertures) - most people will always add a 50mm lens to their bag. When you start looking at zooms, you have to think about what range you want, like...24-105 or 70-200 or...?

My best advice w/ lenses is start off basic, or start off w/ a kit lens; get to know your camera, play around. Then, bring your camera body into a camera store and try on a bunch of lenses and see what you like. :)

Yes it's all about setting's. In child or portrait mode you get a blurred background.

I agree Great advice. I'm looking for a new zoom len's Then i really want the 50mm.

warning lenses are addive I find myself favoriteing alot of them. lol

i didn't know that about the d90 That's awesome!!

Just curious - what happened to the Nikon D40?

I have got to stay away from these camera threads. Y'all are making me want a new one so bad with all your great pictures.
