Question if you have an SLR camera I got a NEW SLR camera (Cannon Rebel xTi- i think...) for my birthday- SO Happy. However, no matter WHAT i do (except if I turn off the flash) I always catch Layla with her eyes closed. It's like the flash goes- she closes her eyes- the picture is taken - and this is assuming i can get near her with the camera- the little clicking noises it makes scare the crap out of her. Any thoughts on getting her with her eyes open? Also when I am in CR mode (creative or something) and I want to play with the blur background function- I can't. I know that the pop up flash has to be down- fine i do that- i fix the blur setting and then i go to take the picture adn the flash pops back up and thus the blur background setting disables- any thoughts? I am going to take lessons, but until i get there- just wanted to know how to do it. |
My camera (a sony) has a option to turn the flash off. You may want to try this when you take Layla's picture too. I find that mine will close their eyes (they know the flash is coming, lol--even in red eye mode). Don't know if this helps? |

Also, Canon might have some online tutorials for you to explore Resources & Learning: Learning Station - Canon USA Consumer Products |
1 Attachment(s) I just got a Canon XT too! LOL. I'm LOVING it but Jackson closed his eyes the first few pics I took, too lol. I think he just got used to it because now he doesn't do it as much. Outdoor shots are no problem, but inside if the room is darker, he will blink/close his eyes. Here was my very first shot with my Canon lol. I have no advice really - he just stopped doing it. :) I still have not barely taken my camera off auto mode, I desperately need some help! |
I would get an add on Flash & bounce it off the ceiling It gives a more natural picture anyway. Also Open up all of you blinds & certains & use the natural sunlight Shut off the flash. I try & not use the flash to much on them since it's so bright it can't be good for there eye's. here's a picture of Brownie When using the add on flash. http://www.flickr.com/photos/41183440@N04/3991008278/ |
The easiest way I've learned to get rid of that is to take pictures outside. :) I the 4 years we've had Tucker, I don't believe I have ever gotten a single picture of him inside with his eyes open. But once I learned the secret was to take pictures outside, now we're having fun. :p There should also be an option to turn the pre-flash and clicking sounds off. |
Like others have said - you should be able to turn off the flash and noises. And like BrowniesMom said - get an add-on flash (I use the SB400) so that flash isn't pointing at your subject -- rather, you bounce the flash - looks much better for color, and doesn't bug eyes as much too. Also, do you have an Aperture Priority mode? Sometimes it's called "A" or "AP" - this allows you to open your aperture wide, and this is a great way to get blurred backgrounds. :) |

Is that flash compatible with a Canon? My first purchase is a 50mm lens but the flash might be my second! |

You will LOVE a 50mm Prime lens!! Is it the Nikkor 50mm 1.8? Fun fun fun. I have it too - it's probably one of the most loved lenses around bc of its quality for price. The 1.8 means, you can open your aperture wide...alllllll the way open to f1.8 - and then you'll have lots of "bokeh" (blurred background). On the other end, if you close your aperture down say to f15 - you have a teensy opening and everything will be in focus (like for landscapes). The flash is just for Nikons - but if you look here , you'll get an idea of what we're talking about. I wonder what the Canon equiv. would be for an attachable, small flash....anyone? |
