Mangos I confess I have never bought one until this week. Since I didn't know what to do with it, I sliced it and ate part of it for supper last night. It was delicious. Anyway, does anyone have any recipes using mangos they would like to share? Would love to learn something new from all you great cooks out there. :) |
I bought a mango salsa that is pretty good I sure you can find a recipe if you google it |
Mangos...yum! Anything you can do with peaches can be done with a mango I love mango ice cream, mango bread, mango cobbler, mango salsa or chunky. I serve mango with shrimp and fish...so yummy! |
I heard if you eat them regularly, they make your body give off something that repels mosquitoes!:D |

I tried the recipe Sugarmamma gave for mango salsa (fruit thread) over the weekend and it was a big hit! I also like mangos on grilled chicken salad with raspberry vinegarette dressing and slivered almonds. YUM! And I also love mango in a fruit smoothie. Really, I love them just to peel and eat too! Why do I come to the food section? I always leave hungry...:p |
I like to cut up a mango and a cucumber and add a little Ume Plum vinegar (found in japanese section of places like whole foods). I read that on a blog, and really love the combo. |
Besides Mango margaritas (YUM!!!) and mango salsa (:dribble:) and mango CHUTNEY (:dribble:) ......There is also pork loin with a mango reduction sauce, mango smoothie, Indian mango lassi,....and this link full on contest winning mango recipes ~ enjoy  Your Best Mangoes - Week 140 - Contests - Food52 - food community, recipe search and cookbook contests |
Thank heavens for you YorkieTalk Foodies. Love the ideas and recipes. I just bought some more Mangos today. Think I will try Cathy's recipe and Lisa's pork tenderloin recipe very soon. What is a good price for a Mango? They have them 10 for $10 this week at Krogers. |

When my son went to Iowa for school, I bought him oranges (from Florida) to take with him. Customs wouldn't let us in the U.S. with the oranges! My smart mouth said, 'dont see why not they came from here (Florida)....so now i can't bring them back???' You know they held us and searched us for over an hour??!! One of these days I'll learn to shut up! :D |

Second question... What is the best way to cut? (I feel like I am wasting part of the fruit.) Do you peel first, then slice? (I am such a newbie to this, please forgive!) |
Here are two different ways to cut a mango. I like the top the best if the mango is not over ripe. How to cut a Mango - YouTube How to Cut a Mango - YouTube |

LETS GO KROGERING!!!! |
We have an over abundance of them this year, but on my third one I started breaking out- I thought I got into some poison ivy- nope it was the mangos! I have a nasty rash under my ring, the side of my mouth and a little in my eye. These were fresh off the trees and it is actually the sap/skin and the seed I am allergic too. I peeled the others with gloves and froze them in icecube trays for the rest of the family.:( |

http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/214iDx53WUL.jpg We use a "mango slicer". Looks like an apple cutter. I have one made by OXO. It has larger handles and grips which makes it easier to use. The picture is off of Amazon but mine was from a big box store and was less than the price listed on Amazon. |

"The skin of the mango and especially the juice which oozes out of the stem of the mango can cause allergic reactions in some people. The mango is in the poison ivy family." I did not know this! |

I much prefer Philippine mangoes. They are the small ones that are all orange/yellow, no red or green in them. They have a much smaller seed and a lot less fibrous. The only way I really eat mangoes are with chili, salt and lemon! ;) |

I feel for you, I am so disappointed that I won't be able to enjoy the season anymore.. I also read that kiwis and latex can be sensitive also(the way I am allergic to cats, but also rabbits and horses) . I know I am allergic to latex, and if I touch something of someone who has poison ivy I get it. It says I can eat the flesh of mango if someone else handles it but I think I don't want to take the chance! |
youch!! aww man. I don't have any food allergies, I just couldn't imagine what that must be like! I remember in Dr Dolittle (Eddie Murphy version) there was a woman who was so allergic to shellfish but loved to eat it, and she hid in the bathroom to eat it bc her face swelled up all crazy. I think it was that movie anyway. |
