| Bread and butter pickles got their name because bread and butter together are sweet. According to egullet.com, bread and butter pickles are named such because during the Depression, they were as regular a part of a diet as bread and butter. The difference between bread and butter pickles and sweet pickles is just a few ingredients. Sweet pickles use cinnamon, cloves, and allspice in a vinegar-sugar brine. Bread and butter pickles are made with turmeric. mustard, and onion in a vinegar-sugar brine. I looked for a definitive answer from some kind of pickle-expert, but wasn't able to find one. It seems as though the history of the name of Bread and Butter pickles is carried on through

I like the ingredients as components. Not so much as a trio

| my Grandmas pork chops were the worst. She fryed them and she overcooked them and even the meat was crunchy. I still cant eat pork chops because of them. Everyone else in the family liked them but Id rather be eating dog food than my grandmas pork chops. She made alot of other things that were good though

Speaking of eating dog food..... We had a little neighbor boy named Willy who would come over every day and eat our Irish Setter's kibble out of the garage!! He would even pee in out bathtub we had stored in there (don't ask me why, to either question ) We were mean kids.....we always sang this song to him

| ♥Love My 3 Furrbutts♥ Donating Member | Y'all need to try peanut butter and bacon....yum! Ex-beau made me try that one. When I was pregnant i couldn't eat my mil's cooking (she's a great cook), anyway what i would do was buy a can of tuna, dump out the water, and replace it with lemon juice, then chow down on that! Thinking back, from then to now...sorry gross!!

| Every once in a while my Dad would get a hankering for pork brains and scrambled eggs. The mere mention of pork brains grossed me out so badly I would get the heck outta dodge before he opened the can. Who could ever eat Pork BRAINS all mixed up with scrambled eggs? I suppose buttered toast finished off this delicacy. |

| The title of this thread made me laugh out loud. Red neck cooking comes to my mind with my upbringing. Mountain oysters.....eeeew! Especially if they are not cooked to a crisp and are still just a little mushy. And my parents always do a lot of home canning. I couldn't stomach the pickled eggs. I always have to ask what's on the menu before a family dinner because you just never know.
