Ok - I got the point and I admit defeat! You guys are absolutely right! Dollar Tree ribeyes are right up there with $ wine, condoms and pregnancy tests.

BTW I cooked two of them for hubby tonight - he had "steak-n-eggs" like at the Waffle House. He said that they were ok, but not like a steak at OutBack. I was like :yeahthat:

Our dollar tree sells wine....a dollar bottle of wine is probably the perfect accompaniment to their steaks. Lol.
They also sell pregnancy tests...and I thought omg, I didn't ever believe the results from the ones which cost 10 bucks.
I see them at the 99 cents only store all the time at the checkout lanes. It's claims it's 99% accurate. :sidesplt:

Grey steak sounds more like a cooking/chef issue than an issue with the meat itself.

Oh, I don't know. I'm an awful cook & my meat has never turned gray! Even I can't do that to meat.

If meat is "wet" and not dried (or too much marinade) when you cook it it steams rather than browning. Steamed meat turns grey.

Sounds pretty yucky. I have always been lucky then, as even when I've cooked meat, I only had to eat the brown kind. I think if my meat ever turns gray, it will have to go in the front yard for the birds!

:D Have you never cooked ground beef in a liquid? if it isn't cooked alone or with oil added only, it greys rather than browns. Steams, as it were ;) It does look kinda yucky and doesn't have the same browned flavor, but it's edible in a pinch (as in my kids made dinner and I have to eat it :eek: )

Guess not - or the other ingredients masked it. Fairly sure if my beef turned any shade of gray it would go in the disposal.
