What??? :eek::eek: There is more than white rice and brown rice??? :eek: Man, living where I am at is missing out on everything. We are so behind the times. I learn something about food here everyday. Well, mainly from Lisa. :rolleyes:;);)

Yes, verry fine drops- instead of butter but small amount (more is not better in this case) sometimes a bit of sesame seeds stirred in. I got the name of the brand wrong ,it's "Golden Star" in the yellow bag.

We do have sesame oil here. :D:D And you are NOT the only southerner who don't like grits!! I am with you!! :p

I'm from Michigan originally, and you would NOT believe how much heck I catch for not stomaching grits. I put cinnamon and sugar in them once thinking it'd help them be more palatable (it didn't!) and you'd think i had just murdered a celebrity....

Just wanted to get that clear. I'm a southern born and raised and I love GRITS, corn on the cob, smashed taters and good ole white rice. I am acquiring a taste for the more exotic varieties. I just found a great site for rice lovers Cook's Thesaurus: Rice it's short, sweet and simple.

Im NOT a rice fan, but I prefer "wild" rice, or something a bit more exotic, but there's only two of us so if He won't eat something I'm stuck eating it for a week-no thanks.
Does your Sir eat what my daughter calls "sweet rice" with butter, sugar, and milk?

oh I know!!! Cornbread stuffing at Thanksgiving is to die for! We could also start a thread on biscuits.. well maybe that is why yt starated the people food and recipes talk section?:)

Thank you.. that sounds so ooooooo yummy. I know what is for dinner tonight:)

btw.. I made humus with my students and I needed a large amount of sesame seeds for the tahini paste... I found them at an Asian food mart very good price.. same for the sesame oil.

Don't know if a Walmart super center is nearby, but they do have sections with many of the better known ethnic foods. I find Basmati and Jasimine rice at our super center, even the local Homeland Grocery has it.

We are lucky enough to live so close to the port our Walmart stocks all kinds of things for the ships that come in. They have the best price on the golden star rice and an entire aisle of ethnic foods that move quickly.
I love cornbread - made with sugar, I call it corncake so no one gets confused!
I have been working on making the hummus- have thrown out two batches so far...

LOL a rice thread huh? I've missed out a lot this week.

Well white rice, there isn't just white rice. Even in asian cuisine, there are lots of different kinds of rice. Chinese style is jasmine rice which is a long grain rice. Sushi rice is a short grain rice. But my FAVE white rice is Mahutma rice, and Indian rice. My bff's mom introduced it to me, which they are Colombian. They use an Asian rice cooker to cook Mahutma. They add in a bit of oil, salt, a stalk or two of green onion or whatever you happen to have on hand. It is THE tastiest white rice ever! I've tried this with other chinese rice such as Calrose but the end result is not even close! My other bff who is also Chinese, tasted this for the first time (years ago) and said OMG this rice is so tasty! I thought I was just gonna be regular white rice! (just like regular old chinese white rice, flavorless and tasteless and sometimes kind of mushy.

However when I was a kid, I used to like rice pilaf from Sizzler with lemon. :D
