Valentine's day meals recap 4 Attachment(s) So the bf and I FINALLY took a day off for Valentine's and it was so great with just eating, shopping, and NOT working! We started off the day at this place called Flappy Jacks. They are known for their different kinds of eggs benedict. We got one crab cake benedict, and one veggie bendict. I gotta say, they looked better than they tasted. =/ The crab cake was "krab" and they didn't bother to mention that. Plus they were deep fried instead of pan fried, so tasted like a hash brown. The veggie one was ok, but I hate how cooked spinach leaves that weird feeling on my teeth. Oh well. For early dinner/happy hour, we went to this tapas place in Santa Monica. They had $1.50 half pints and a 6 for $6 plate, which you see with the olives. Their olives were much more sour than usual and not too salty, very good! On the plate from the top it was ham, cheese, and tomato; egg with vinagrette dressing; artichoke and tomato; grilled mushrooms; chorizo and tomato; albacore, tomato, and cornichon. Then bacon wrapped dates, OMG yum! I think there was cheese in there too. Then some grilled calamari drowned in lemon butter. So yummy! |
2 Attachment(s) After some shopping in Santa Monica, we headed back to Hollywood, it took us an hour and a half with all the Valentine's traffic! It usually takes 10-15 mins  So then late night we gorged ourselves at Roscoes with their famous chicken and waffles. Might I add (or maybe I should say needless to say) I had a few. At the end of the meal, as the waitress was clearing the dishes, the cap of the hot sauce fell on the floor. I had just put on some lip balm, which has a red cap, same as the hot sauce. I picked up the cap and tried to put it on my lip balm! The waitress, not missing a step, says, "That's from the hot sauce honey" :sidesplt: Oops. Meal was good though! |

Cinnamon Brown Sugar PopTarts and coffee. I just can't get going this morning. It is just starting to rain, I feel tired and achey from post-op rehab and don't even want to move from this couch all day. After 2 cups of coffee and a jolt of sugar from the PopTarts that should have me rearing to go - all I want is to stay horizontal all day! So, I just called and cancelled today's rehab session and plan to wrap up in my old soft quilt and watch an old British TV series today called "Upstairs Downstairs". I just found out recently that I nolove period history dramas and just this week bought that entire TV series which I think I will start wathing today. After watching "Downton Abbey" on PBS, I am hooked on period pieces now, apparently. I think I will enjoy a day of doing nothing for a change and just letting it rain outside while I nap and catch some Brit TV. |
Ohhhh! Sorry you're so sore....Brilliant to have a duvet-day though! :) Glad you enjoyed Downton....Upstairs Downstairs is very much in the same vein. Plus there's a brand new series of UD starting just this weekend on TV over here....hopefully it'll be out in time for your Christmas pressie this year...!!! :D Oh, and french bread baguette with smoked ham and emmental cheese + mayo (sorry, not Dukes!!! :p) Sally x |

I saw a recent production of UD Version 2 where the maid - ?Jane? - is now old but back at the same place and the new family have the house restored. Is there another version after that? Oh, I hope so - I so enjoyed this year's version of UD. Loved the history of pre-WWII included in the story lines. Just started the original series and am on Episode 4 - in black and white due to technician strikes as they say on the DVD. The first few episodes after the first are all B&W. Not Blu-Ray standards or anything like that but am enjoying the heck out of it!!! In the insert that came in the boxed set of the entire series, there are other similar series advertised. Am thinking of the Forsyte Saga as my next Brit drama. Have you seen it? Had the last of my chicken salad yesterday(sob!!! - still craving it) and am back to just regular meals so just been having Special K bars today until dinner tonight - which might just be pizza! |
