Thanksgiving Menu What are you all having? Chocolate?? :) We aren't hosting this year which is rare, so not exactly sure what we'll have. |
It will just be Bruce and I on Thanksgiving Day so won't be doing anything special. But on the Sunday we are having friends over so will celebrate Thanksgiving then. Will have Deep Fried Turkey British stuffing Roast Potatoes Yorkshire pudding Vegetable - not sure what yet. Homemade cranberry sauce Gravy Probably Cranberry Clafty for dessert (that is what is traditional in our family). |
We are hosting for our first time this year in our new home, so this thread will be really helpful. So far, I haven't thought too much of it, but I know we will have: Turkey Mashed potatoes and gravy Stuffing Green bean casserole Rolls And I don't know what else... I'm not to much of a cooker, so this will definitely be a learning experience! I need to work on my Susie Homemaker skills! |
Turkey, dressing, mashed potatoes. These are all just an excuse to eat CINNAMON ROLLS! These are not your garden variety rolls -- it's a "technique" handed down from my grandmother. The dough is rolled really thin, coated with sugar, cinnamon, and margarine (I know, but we only have them at Thanksgiving and Christmas), and baked until barely done. They come out gooey and crunchy at the same time and are more like candy than rolls. We made a huge batch of them last weekend and they're in the freezer waiting to go to various households on Thursday. But now that I've described them, I'm really wanting to go home and sneak some out of one of the pans. |
Beamers Mom, I love Yorkshire Pudding!! We are going to my cousin's to be with my aunt and all the cousins. I'm bring antipasto and cherry and apple crumb cake. My cousin is making lasagna or stuffed shells. Also turkey, stuffing, potatoes and veggies and green salad. Another cousin will bake also, probably pies etc. Wishing everyone a wonderful Thanksgiving with family, friends and of course our doggies!!!!!:) |
Beamer's Mom -- what is British stuffing? And I hope no dogs are harmed in the making of Yorkshire pudding. That reminds me -- I was at Cost Plus World Market today getting my holiday stash of Crunchie and Flakes bars. They had a bar I'd never seen called a "Yorkie." At $1.99 each I talked myself out of buying one to sample. All I need is one more costly high calorie treat addiction. |
My kids always choose the menu.... Meatballs Lasagna Chicken cutlets frances Salad italian Bread pumpkin cheesecake assorted cheesecake hermits(for my dad) and lots of wine!! |

No, no dogs are harmed in the making of Yorkshire puddings.:D As we went to the commissary the other day I bought some Crunchie bars and Cadbury Flakes. (Sugarsmamma hasn't been over for a while and I had eaten the Flake I was saving for her - so she better come soon or these will be gone too!:D) |
I am having the usual Turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes, Yorkshire Pudding (everyone's favorite) green bean casserole, corn rolls deserts. My Mom was English so Yorkshire pudding is a must. Also love those Flake bars, Cadbury buttons and Walnut Whips. I better make a trip to the British Store soon. |
Ok I know I'm a dork but.....what is Yorkshire pudding?? |

Cadbury Flake - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia Yorkshire pudding is a batter made with flour, milk and an egg - sort of like your popovers. |
Well, not only am I not hosting; but I just moved and will be traveling home on Thanksgiving Day. Which means - I have only to make two things! Yes! We will go to my cousin's house and have: Turkey Breast (ho hum I like dark meat) Instant mashed potatoes Homemade gravy (hopefully will drown out the flavor of the instant mashed) Stove top stuffing (which I love) Sweet Potato Casserole (which I make) Spinach Souffle (which I also make) and, of course, pumpkin pie. And perhaps a deviled egg or two; but I dunno since I won't be there to make them. |

And this is a popover pan (though, I know some people use tall coffee mugs): https://www.discountcooking.com/shop...GEIAPAOIBA.jpg The lava cakes you make in little ramekins and, oh my :p. The outside of the individual cake is more cakey, and then the inside is still rather liquidy. Oh heaven! That recipe is easy too... |

For Garlic Mashed Potatoes, do you just add garlic to regular mashed potatoes? It sounds good to me but I am afraid if I ruin them, there will be trouble. :D The men in my family are all potato men except my middle son and he is a Mac & Cheese fiend -- that is why I am making it, in addition to the potatoes. My favorite mashed potatoes are called Gouda Potatoes -- sort of lumpy mashed potatoes with skins left in, and lots of gouda cheese -- they are soooooo good. Why am I not making those? I think Ifigured too many extra calories with all the carbs I am making. I have never made the corn casserole before, hope it turns out okay! My DIL makes it very well! |
