Paneer Tikka (cheese in spices), Chaat is to die for (it's like Indian Nachos--Ridiculously good), Aloo Tikki (potato patties w/ spiced chick peas.)

I just got back from a pre wedding bbq today too! It was at my bff's parents house, and her soon to be husband is filipino, so we had traditional filipino food. They went all out. They even had a whole roast pig! It was so good, with the crispy skin and all! Even the snout! LOL although I didn't get to try that.

Capt Noonie, last night of Iron Chef, they were using uni (sea urchin) in several of their recipes. I may have had it because I sometimes eat sushi. One guy on the show was cooking bone marrow; so, you actually eat the marrow in the bone?
I told my husband, "Capt Noonie loves uni...she even named her yorkie Uni." He said, "Who!!!" He should have know it was from yt!!

Fun thread!

On the protein front, I've tried a lot of different things...Jack just ate goat for the first time... it was ok. I really, really love ostrich - its just like beef tenderloin but much leaner

For ethnic foods, one of the more inventive things I've made are Indian pooris. Interesting ... they are a bread and ... they kind of "blow up" like a big doughnut when you cook them

I really enjoy Thai - anything with coconut milk, lemon grass and thai curry. I make a shrimp curry and I add baby bok choy to it. YUMMY!

Also love to cut up a whole chicken, marinade in lemon, sea salt, onion, garlic, ginger, chili past, paprika, tumeric, yogurt and coriander seeds. Its like a tandori chicken. Serve it with a cucumber salad - very refreshing. The only issue with cooking with tumeric is that it RUINS your clothes if you spill (which I do regularly in the kitchen). I need to wear old dark clothes whenever the tumeric is out LOL :D

On a more "traditional" ethnic front, I make my own pesto. Love that with shrimp, chicken, pasta...

You will love this soup!
Boil 3-4 stalks of lemon grass in a quart of chicken stock for about 30 min.
Let sit for about 5-10 minutes, remove stalks and slowly add (while stirring) about 1/2 can of coconut milk. That's the base! Now you can add whatever you like to it!
I have used shrimp, chicken and tons of different veggies.:)

(Make sure you rinse the lemon grass stalks first, and they will need to be cut in pieces to fit your pot.)

Sorry. I'm new here. :\

Was it a new episode or an old one? I have seen them use uni before, but don't remember if the entire show was uni. Who was the iron chef? I hope it was Morimoto!!!

Oh forgot to say, yes you can eat bone marrow, but it has to be in a bigger bone, lamb being probably the smallest. But beef bones are a good size. It's kind of fatty, but in a good way. Kinda hard to explain, but lots of flavor!

Are the beef bones used in soups, or do you put them on a plate and dig the marrow out? This is so interesting! I enjoy hearing about different
cultures and different foods.:)

I am sooo picky, but reading the way you guys describe your favorite foods makes me wish I wasn't so picky! I have no food to add really.... toasted ravioli is a regional food here I've been told... I think everyone needs to try cheddar cheese toasted ravioli! So good!

This thread needs more pictures of the foods but I can't find one of mine at the moment.

I think many times they also use ox bones too. A lot of fancy schmancy restaurants serve it (roasted bone marrow) and you scoop out the marrow and spread it on toasty bread.

Then there are also the ethnic foods that have a whole big piece of bone in some type of soup or stew that is just cooked until super soft, and that you just slurp it out! :D I usually will eat menudo from time to time, and this one spot where I go, they ask you if you want the bone too. Of course I said yes! This is the only place that ever asked me, I am wondering if it is from a certain region of Mexico that does this or what.

Have you ever had som tam (green papaya salad) yummmmm. So refreshing yet totally sweat inducingly spicy at the same time. bf's mom makes it the best. i always order it at restaurants and still think her's is the best. Although she doesn't put bean sprouts in hers like the pic, but this pic looks most like how she does it with the mini green beans too. :p

Soup! That reminds me I love Vietnamese Pho ga. A great chicken, rice noodle soup served with bean sprouts and basil and sirracha sauce (hot rooster sauce).

Yes, I believe I will!! And, it sounds very versatile... which is a huge bonus

Would like to give it a try when the 105 weather subsides a bit :) soup right now, unless chilled, is not an option :D

Is sriracha an americanized sauce or a really, authentic thai(?) sauce???? Always wondered and someone once told me, oh its just an "americanized" product not really authentic...

I really don't know. It's made in the us but they serve it in every Vietnamese restaurant I've ever been in. I just love it-sooooooo hot-it makes your nose run. When ever anyone in our family has a cold we head to the restaurant for a sinus clearing

they say it's "americanized" but the makers of the sauce are US immigrants. the sauce has not been around that long. Legend has it, one of my old HS friend's dad is friends with the owner of the company. Another legend, is that bf's xgf's friend's dad is the owner. Anyway.... love that sauce!

I LOVE pho! It's so funny when people pronounce it as it looks. "foh" Or sometimes we say "fur" My bff always laughed when we said it the right way "fuh" like how you say f*** you. heh heh.

no... fois gras is duck liver fat or something.... creton is pork butt, ground up and cooked for a long time in milk or water and there is onion and spices in it. I make it with Bells seasoning, cloves and allspice but some people make it with cinnamon, ginger and nutmeg. I personally like it more spicy than sweet though.

oooh sounds delicious! I would like it spicy too. i don't have much of a sweet tooth.

I think fois gras is the liver of an overweight goose. :p

what about bone marrow? I may have already asked this....my brain is old and feeble and I'm too lazy to look :sidesplt:

Anyway....it is DELICIOUS! Common way to serve it is from the oxtail or knuckle bones they sell for soup or dogs! They get over $20 a pop for these things in a restaurant! I've heard grown women will literally pick up the bones and suck/lick the marrow out with their tongue :D I guess it's on the erotic foods list?? :sidesplt:
