Japanese Chins? Do any of you have any experience with the breed? My husbands grandmother breeds them and I would possibly like to get one (its a long shot, because I have to convince my husband to let me have one in our tiny little house since we already have 3 beautiful furbabies in it:p ). Does anyone know about thier temperment and behaviour? This is her website so you can see what they look like: http://hillviewcavaliers.com/chinsite/puppygallery.htm I think I would like a boy since I already have a bunch of girls. Would this be a bad idea? |
got it from dog breed info The Japanese Spaniel is a charming, lively, and happy animal. Pleasant, loving and intelligent. Affectionate and extremely devoted to its master. This breed loves everyone. With its gentle ways and charming manners, it is perhaps best suited to homes in which there are no small children. If you do have small children, teach them to be nice and gentle with the dog. They are good with other dogs and pets. The Japanese Spaniel has a mind of its own and likes to be the center of attention. This breed is not a barker. Mild mannered, elegant, yet playful. Sensitive, agile, dainty and clean. This breed is more obedient than most toy breeds and are good dogs for learning tricks. They are also good watchdogs. |
I don't have any experience with this breed but I just want to say they are really cute! Good luck! :) |
My in-laws have one. They shed awful. Blow snot out their nose. (because their nose is flat). They have a good temperament but I just can not get past the hair and the snot. |

A dog that can blow snot out of their nose is odd in my book. But since I have allergies, I wouldn't want a Chin. If you want one that badly, and can put up with the shedding, go ahead :) btw..they are cute though |

Hmmmm, well, the other breeds that we are very much in love with and interested in possibly getting in the future (probobly distant future) is a bulldog, or brussels griffon(although I can not find any local breeders for this type of breed), or possibly another yorkie. Does anyone know if bulldogs or brussels shed bad? |
bulldogs prob shed im not sure about the other one |
both those breeds shed. Don't let the short hair fool you..... It's short for a reason. I have allergies too and Yorkies are the BEST!!!!!!!!!! the only non shedding dogs I know of are the poodles..... the YORKIES..... maltese (which i have too) , a shih tzu....... the hairless chinese crested..... are there anymore I am missing? |

My chi doesnt bother me, I actually heard they are good for people with allergies (I read it somewhere so Im not sure if thats true or not). I know bichons are good for people with allergies too but I'm not really a fan of that breed. I really love bull dogs but I have a feelign they would shed as much as my boxer. :( |
Schnauzers don't shed and they're very good dogs, too. They are smart, loyal, playful, and easy to housetrain! We had a schnauzer, Heidi, before we got Bentley. She died unexpectedly at the age of 5, that was 2 years ago and I still miss her! My parents and my brother's family have always had schnauzers, in fact my brother and his wife are involved in a schnauzer rescue. |
Yes, like Kaymo said, Schnauzers don't shed and are super cute! |
Bulldogs shed, a lot. They also drool badly and blow snot. I just cannot take the snot blowing!!! My friend has one and she smells horrible no matter if you get got her out of the tub! |
Japanese Chins are adorables . They have wonderful temperament . |

Yes penny is a shedding, snot blowing, farting machine, lol!!! :D :D I can deal with snoring as long as they arent sleeping in the same bed as me;) But the shedding is the hardest for me to deal with because of my asthma. Yesterday I gave penny a bath and brushed her several times throughout the day and the shedding never ends. It doesnt even seem to ever slow down  |

I have owned several Chins over the years. They do shed but not that much if bushed and combed everyday and neutered or spayed. They snore a little at times but no more then my Yorkie. Chins have a great temperment but are prone to heart issues, seizures, luxating patellas, sensitive stomachs but mine have had less issues then my Yorkies. I have found that all I've owned had great temperments but all had different personalities. Two of mine were great travelers. The other two were extremely shy and stayed home. Mine were not fond of children and were all fragile. However compared to the Yorkies I've owned, low maintenance and not at all demanding. Chins tend to be easily house trained, attach themselves to a family member, love to please. Chins, as all pushed in faced dogs, don't do well in the heat. I adore this breed but as any, must research breeders carefully. Years ago they were difficult to obtain but now they are bred by puppy mills. I've owned many toy breeds over the years, Yorkies and Chins were the only breeds I've chosen to repeat. Jessica |

Chins I had thought I wanted a Chin before I found out about yorkies. We had even went to a pet store (I would never buy one from there) to see if they were the type of dog for our family. I know the one they brought out was very poorly breed. He was cock-eyed and he kept running into the wall. I felt so sorry for it. He looked like an alien and my son was scared of it because of it's eyes popping out and it's tongue hanging out. It really turned me off of them. I couldn't find a local breeder and there is no way I would want to end up with a poor puppy like that shipped to me from god knows where. Definately get a puppy that you can see locally! I think a good breed for you is the s**tzu. I think they look very similar, but a little bit bigger and they don't shed. My neighbor has one and she is BEAUTIFUL! And they don't shed! Their girl looks like of like this. http://image03.webshots.com/3/4/64/1...uVMRsQv_fs.jpg |

I have something similar called the "Shed Ender". Does the exact same thing and sells for a lot cheaper. You can pick 'em up on eBay for about $10. |
