A hopefull introduction/announcement It looks very much like we shall be receiving our new Black Russian Terrier Show promise gal on Jan 8th; given there are no snafu's with the Import Permit. I was told today that the office has all the documentation they need to process the permit! My breeder/trainer did examine the females in Riga Latvia, and I have the genetic test results back. We have made a decision in concert with the Russian breeder to Drummmmmm Roll; import pink/crimson gal - Iridara - in Greek Mythology it means Heroine! Her pics can be seen at www.blackterrier.ru enter under British Flag and go click on Puppies. I got the details of the shipping weight for air cargo it is 11kgs or 24.2 lbs. That is one stout gal, probably weighing in at 18 lbs or more. Now many factors went into my choice. First I found a Russian breeder of integrity and fine quality bloodlines. And one of the few Russian breeders who does health test their dogs, and her husband puts the working titles on the dogs. That took place about 4 yrs ago. I examined Bentley's Mom back in 2009, and her daughter in 2011 at the USA National Specialties, and of course met the breeder a few times when she was over to the USA. I was very, very impressed. The health lineage is sketchy, as Europe does not have a centralized health database as we do in North America. We are finalizing the contract details, and are close to a contractual agreement. And just so everyone knows, there is no such thing as a "PERFECT" show dog. It is what very good breeders strive for, but like climbing to the moon, it is always just beyond our reach. I am in high gear right now, Vet full Wellness screen has been booked for 2 days after receipt of our gal. We are currently going through all our crates for a) travel crate and b) house crate. I am researching cheap carpet runners as I have hardwood and tile, and latest research indicates that non slip surfaces are best for puppy growth and development. I have researched PennHip certified vets to do HD Xrays at 6mths old. I will repeat the genetic tests at a lab here I know and trust just as soon as I receive her. I have sent out emails to my handlers to see what their forward schedule is like. I have to get new protection thingies for electrical cords as all my old ones are basically done in. My trainers are in place, and I am just now scheduling puppy parties and visits. This is very key to socialization of our breed. We have re-set our home to welcome an eight wk old puppy, and I am still searching for my cot, which is probably in the crawl space, so that I can sleep in our garden room with her, for her first few weeks. Both for socialization and the midnight calls of nature. Crate and rotate is being set up, so that our puppy is safe, as well as our one Yorkie and our guest Yorkie. A trip to Rens is in order to look at new ex pen options, and for some various teething toys. I have forward booked the swim times for my pack. And now with the traditional House Cleaning to welcome in the New Year, I am sitting down and chatting on Yorkie talk:D |
Congrats on this news, hoping everything goes as planned and you have your new girl soon. What a way to start the new year, with all those puppy kiss's. Can't wait to see pic's. |
Congratulations! |
Thank you Patti and Abbey. I hope that in sharing, folks begin to understand what show breeders do do. And I am beyond excited to receive this new gal into our home:D:D |
How beautiful! We are so blessed to have folks like yourself working to preserve breed integrity and health. Without the hard work of these dedicated people we would not have the dogs we know and love today- THaNK YOU! :thumbs up |
Congratulations ! Finally your pup will soon be here. The puppies are beautiful. Best of luck and safe trip to Iridara. |
Congrats! Hope she turns out to be great for you |
How exciting! Can hardly wait for the nursery pics! |
Thanks all, pics can be found on the website I posted earlier. I do have more pics but it is a real pain to re-size them all for posting here. |

Thanks! Woo hoo just found out the import permit is approved! |
I can barely contain my excitement, and I can't wait to watch your beautiful little girl grow up. She looks so confident and healthy. Her hair shines so beautifully, and she has such a pretty face and beautiful build and stack. Your little girl has no idea yet what a wonderful life she will have with you, Dave, Judy, Magic, and Razzle. I can't wait to hear of her antics and the bond you will develop and grow from training together. I hope I can apply some of your tips to continue Ilona's wonderful training of Katie. If your little gal does for your heart what Katie has done for ours, I will be very happy. |
Thanks Lisa. You are always so encouraging to everyone! I am setting up a picture and video file folder just for her:D:D We think we have a collar small enough, but I need to buy another one, which I will do after she arrives. She should have a collar on her when she is shipped. Leashes of course we are good to go with. She will need a show collar, which I will get at the next show. Life jacket I will see if Razz;s big lifevest will work for her - but I don't think so. Zoey's is too big for right now. So that will be a purchase about a month from now or so. I have not talked to hubby about the super duper crate that has the special build -as I have not contacted the supplier to see if they make a crate large enough for Magic. And at about $1000 a crate that is a pretty expensive investment. We don't need to worry about coats - just booties and I may have a small pair that will fit her. I need to see about a diet for her. I am thinking of switching her to Raw / Home cooked - as my experience has been that she won't eat kibble after about two wks when all the other dogs are on home-cooked. We did find an air mattress single size - so this wkend we are re-vamping the garden room so the pack and I can sleep in there for her first few weeks. Then she will transition to our bedroom where we all sleep at night. And yes she will sleep in her crate, just like all except Magic. She needs to learn crate training for many reasons. Stainless steel bowls we have lots of and she will be fed from the ground until she grows up enough to be fed from the dual feeder. It is an exciting time for me:D |

You are going to have so much fun training a new pup. Looking forward to watching her develop and grow. |
Thanks Kristin. Me too - it has been awhile without a puppy in the house. :) |
Congrats on your new babe |
Thanks - we are just in the throes of revising the layout of our den. Phew but I did get a hardwood floor cleaner (I actually thought I was buying a steamer as well but  such is moi when I go shopping! But the products you use are pet safe. I am looking to put down some cheap area rugs and a hallway runner for our lower level so the pup has non slip surfaces. We found a couple of small crates - so I should be able to get in my single air mattress in the den. Fingers are crossed xx. Anyhoo back to work:) |
She is on her way! She arrived safe to Frankfurt and is winging her way to me as I type this. I hope everything goes well at the airport! I have heard that they have cancelled some flights due to their fuel supply lines freezing - many travellers are stranded at the airport:mad::mad::thumbdown I will call the Cargo warehouse to see what they have to say after 1pm today. Wish us luck - and that they do not divert this flight to another arrival airport! |
In the quiet moments of what are always chaotic days at work, I thought of you and your beautiful new pup. May she bring you new hopes and dreams, laughter, love, and much health and happiness. I can't wait to watch your new gal grow up. With your love and devotion, she will have a wonderful life. |
I hope your gorgeous new little girl has arrived safely and that you have arrived home safe, sound, and warm. I also hope your boys love their new sister and that your visiting little one is not jealous of the new female who has arrived on your doorstep. I can't wait to see updated photos and lots of new videos of your pack! |
Is she home yet? Hoping for a safe trip! Congratulations! |
Thanks Kathy and Lisa. Yes she is home. :D:D We took pics and some vids last night, but I am too exhausted to try to upload them. She has a very good set of lungs on her, as I found out last night! THe stinker had me up 4 times in the night, and out we went for a pee or a poo, neither of which the lass would do, but she has hit her weepad at least 3 times out of a dozen or so times..... And so far she is a good eater:) The gang has met her and predicatably the males are showing that they don't care for puppies, our guest Rica is very interested in her though. We have a snafu that is quite serious - and I hope to get it resolved by the wkend. Somehow she and her paperwork got parted along the way to Canada. I can't reach the breeder as she is travelling in Germany I believe, and she has not responded to emails. Technically the vet on call should not have let her into Canada - the only option was to send her back! Then he relented, maybe because I looked like I was going to faint, and he relented because I think that we just both said but the puppy going back such a long journey? So you can imagine what my stomach feels like right now! My friend in Riga is going to try to call her and at least leave a message on her phone. A detailed in Russian message! So ......... |
OMG! Hope it all gets sorted quickly! Can't wait to see some pics! |
Wow! I am so excited for you!!! Will check back in for pictures! Can't wait! |
Yeah she is home. I hope you get that papers worked out. I am glad they did not send her back |
I feel so bad that the paperwork issue dampened your excitement upon meeting your new family member. I'm so relieved that the vet had the compassion to allow her to stay. You are beginning an adventure with your new gal. I can imagine you advocating for her last night; it's who you are, and it's what I know you'll do for anyone you've grown to care about. Those of us like me whose life has touched yours are truly very fortunate. |
Gail, congratulations! I am very happy for you that your baby is finally here! Looking forward to your pictures and videos. Lisa said it best, what a relief that the vet had the compassion to let your puppy through without papers. I would have fainted twice in your position. I can imagine how thrilled you are that you finally have your girl. Enjoy! |
Thanks everyone. I think we have everything sorted, I just need to supply the shot record when I take her for them Wednesday. Hopefully that is all that needs to happen. For Breeders who are exporting dogs to Canada, for show, exhibition, breeding, brokers et al, here is the link to the appropriate information: Importing or Travelling with Domestic Dogs for Commercial Purposes - Animals - Canadian Food Inspection Agency Your purchaser will need to apply for an import permit, by the time we left the airport with Dara, all totalled it was about $468 we paid out between inspection fees and custom duties. And DOGS must HAVE DHPP first set of shots and be eight weeks old. |
Our first Video |
I loved seeing Dara and Razzle together. You have two beautiful bundles of energy and, of course, your magnificent Magic. It brings great joy to my heart to hear you so happy, and I am breathing a sigh of relief that things have worked out now with bringing Dara to her wonderful new home. |
