Names for Large to be Lasses My hubby asked me on Sunday, I know it is way to early but what name(s) are you thinking about if we get a new show gal? This will be a Black Russian Terrier, and some pics of them are in my photo album, They are large black beasties .. a guard and protect breed. So any imaginative folks out there. Oh yes they were developed in Russia. I have a couple of rough ideas... Lady Godiva. Diva for short. Satya. Ebony Anastasia Tassey for short. Gaia. Raven or Raveness Nuit de Reve. Revey for short. Tarisha So lets hear your ideas......... |
Here's my suggestion -- Zibeline - which means the fur of the sable. zib·el·ine [zib-uh-lahyn, -leen, -lin] I like unusual names :D |
You already have such nice names, but I'm interested to hear some of the other creative names people here will come up with. I'm so excited to hear about the possibility of a new Lass in your family. I hope she helps to make your dreams come true. You care so much for your furry loved ones, have such a deep love, commitment, and respect for them, and they live such a full life with you. I am already getting puppy fever hearing about a new pup for you. Tonight Katie and I saw a twelve week old black standard poodle while walking. Katie was very interested, and I instantly fell in love. Your girl will be a lot larger, but this twelve week old boy was already so much larger than Katie. I just love all dogs, big and small! |

Nigella or Chanyaka...Russian for blackberry. |
I like the possibilities you have come up with (I particularly like Lady Godiva). I'm thinking she needs a dessert name (don't ask me why, I have no idea). So if she were mine I would name her: Tula Pastila Moloko (Tula for short) Tula Gingerbread, Pastila, and Ptichie Moloko are different Russian desserts, so I would take part of each name and make it her first, middle and last name. Knowing the way your other dogs are, your Black Russian Terrier would be: a) sweet by nature b) rich in quality and c) deliciously groomed So...I think Tula. :) |
Wow you guys are amazing. What interesting names you have all come up with. I like lots of those names. We have lots of time, and so maybe if something comes up, just add to the list. I like Lady Godiva so far. But also fur of the sable. Their coats can gleam and are so dense and luxurious. I don't want to settle on something, at least until I see pics and videos, and I hope that through this I get a "felt" sense of their personality, along with of course the puppy temperament evaluations that will be going on. First temperament reports will be coming in at around 35days or so, then weekly there after. She is due 1st week of August:) With my luck the litter might be all males.....or there won't be a show prospect female borne. But I am patient, and one does need to wait. The breeder always has pick of the litter, and therefor I am hoping for two very fine quality females being borne. |

I couldn't get the link to open. I'd love to see it. |
if you go to www.blackterrier.ru and click on video you should be able to see it. Open the video in a separate window, which is how I did it. |
Update litter has arrived Very happy to hear a litter of eight was borne on the 4th of August. 3 males and wait for it........... 5 FEMALES... Yipeee And now the excitement really builds for me. |
AUGUST 4 Although you are positive, somewhat stubborn, willful, and quick to learn, you are sincere and do many kind and noble deeds unknown to others. You are friendly and have many fine friends. You home and family ties are dear to you. You usually possess a youthful quality and being happy and relaxed brings out the best in you. Security conscious you like to protect yourself and your family. Soul mates can be found among those born in January, February August, October and November. You will be rewarded often! And the horoscope :)\\ ME = SAGITTARIUS, MY DOG = LEO A good relationship. Sagittarius will appreciate the independence of Leo, who is not afraid to let Leo wander. Also Leo is interesting enough to keep Sagittarius coming back for more. Arf, Arf! |
And for her first litter, she was right on time too! Breeder said due 4/5 of August! Just waiting to hear from breeder. See how the whelp went (its important how the mother did), pups borne all healthy no hernias, etc, nursing well, birth weights. |

Remaining litter feeding very well. One difficulty with the large breeds even with safety rails Mom can sit on a pup and kill them. We usually sleep in whelping room for the first week or so. We did not get to birth weights she was exhausted when we stumbled through our phone call. So today sent $500 deposit through Western Union, it was easy as pie to do. And it is fully refundable if no show quality female for me. Yes ! Contract is being made as I write this up. Hopefully that will go well too. I wonder if she will get it translated into English for me? Her asking price is with-in reason. Now if she remembers the terms we agreed to about 3 yrs ago. We shall see. Anyhow any contract is only as good as the folks behind the contract. So I am hoping for pics about the same time I imagine a contract for my review will come through. There is no law between Russia and Canada that would be able to enforce a contract agreement. To me what is important that some things are spelt out clearly between us. It provides a guideline for breeders to act with-in. I will be expected to get dual championships, at least a CD title in obedience, keep gal very very fit, show up to all Nationals she wants us at. She will send me her training regime, already approved my trainer (Ilona), and now I need to find a new pro groomer. Full gambit of health testing done. She will not be bred prior to 2yrs old and by just past 2yrs old must have all her screenings done. The breeding and this is my request, all studs scruntized through her, her health checks done for Russian bred dogs and or European dogs, Russian lineage scrutinized and shared with me, to what is on and off the books health wise. I want her to send her grooming instructions to my pro groomer and in so far as possible with language and distance problems help out with the grooming. I am hoping SKYPE is available in Russia :-) She has agreed to be my mentor, along with my other mentors. I have my Russian to English translator (Ilona god love her), who is also my mentor. I agreed to reduced tail. With much agonizing over that. It essentially will disqualify the dog from any International Show, except in Russia. God how exciting would that be to travel to Russia for a National Specialty there and win it! Even in the USA we might get 40 dogs at a National, in Russia they get 400 dogs!. Sorry for rambling. One is supposed to be circumspect as a breeder. But this is a piece of very good news in a very long time. And anyhow I am the crazy dog lady. A title I quite enjoy. |
How exciting for you!! Congrats on your new show potential (wow 5 females). One of the perks of a larger breed....more puppies lol. Sounds like things are falling into place for you, hope they continue to do so. Can't wait to see pic's.....how long has it been since you have had a baby in the house? Oh the joy's of a new baby lol. :) |
I watched the video you attached. Irina loves her dogs, and you, a proud crazy dog lady, is a perfect home for your new lass to be. A few years ago you shared with me your heart, hopes, dreams, and visions while Razzle was obtaining his US and Canadian championships. I learned so much from you about the show world, about what it means to be a highly principled breeder who puts their heart and soul into producing healthy, happy dogs and who also live the beloved life of treasured members of the family. I learned from you and also ilona that show dogs could also run, play, swim, dock dive, and train, even in full show coat. Through the eyes of my dear friend, I learned about always putting the health and well-being of the pups first, even if that means not breeding your dream and heart dog, Magic. Sitting with you at the Yorkshire Terrier National Specialty, I learned even more of what to look for in a Yorkie, their beautiful movement, and also how important it is to breed for standard and to try to improve the breed we love so much. You have never waivered from your principles, and you have set such a high bar for other ethical breeders to attain. I loved hearing how Razzle attained his Grand Championship and sharing it with you as you took every step toward his wonderful achievement. Irina recognizes something very great in you. Although there is a language barrier, your love and commitment to your dogs rings loud and clear. It is something that is felt so obviously without uttering a single word. It is no wonder that you have earned the respect of another highly principled woman. I am so excited about a young lass for you, and I can't wait to take another journey with you. My heart is wide open, my excitement is overflowing, and I am always learning from you. As time passes, my respect for you grows even stronger. Although you have experienced some bumps in the road, you never lose sight of the strong ethical foundation you have set for yourself. No doubt Irina recognizes these beautiful qualities in you, your eagerness to learn, and always do what's best for the animals n your care. You have such a strong and beautiful bond with them, and I've always loved hearing you speak lovingly and deeply from your heart. |

Bodica Ida very regal name to think about . |
Seeing so many gorgeous BRTs together in the video is amazing. The one she had on the table for grooming looked smaller. Was that just me? I think you can take comfort in knowing that this breeder is known worldwide and has a reputation that she wants to uphold. It's good too knowing she has certain expectations concerning the pup for competition. Traveling to Russia would be amazing! I would love to see Moscow and Saint Petersburg, and hop down to Yalta on the Ukrainian coast. I am terrible with coming up with names. Teddy was the only one that I picked, and I still had to wait to meet him in person. As soon as he walked in the door, I knew it was right. |
What about Babooshka or Baby for short which would be cute for a big dog Or Olga or tsarina. I had not heard of this breed before so googled, beautiful. |
Wow a big litter and it is wonderful that there is 5 females. I am sorry to hear about th male though. |

Her dogs are gorgeous. I loved seeing how gentle they were with the Scottie. The pups have gorgeous dark black hair that looks so shiny. I wish I could actually hear what they are saying, but it looks like she loves her dogs, and she has won so many awards. |
Thanks Lisa. If anyone wants to see the puppies go to www.blackterrier.ru and click on the British Flag - Then the Puppy pictures. |
