I have to rehome Pixie(weimaraner) I am so sad and upset!!!! I do not know what to do!! We bought Pixie the beginning of Feb. My husband wasn't to sure on getting a dog period but I went and got her and he fell instantly in love!!! I like to say that we rescued her because she came from a puppy mill and looked HORRIBLE!!!!! I bought her anyways to get her away from those people! I took her straight to the vet and come to find out she was severely malnutrioned. So we put her on a good puppy food and just took really good care of her. She was staying in the house 24/7 but that became a problem...she is so tall she was putting her head on the table and pulling things off and jumping on my children and hurting them...so we decided that she would stay outside during the day only if it was pretty and we would bring her in at night to sleep. Well, now that isn't working at all....she is staying in our fenced in yard and popping COW piles where my children play...we can't even walk out side without getting dog poo all over us...so that is also where I let the yorkies out to play when the weather is nice. She is being way to rough with them!!!! As soon as we walk out she jumps all over us. It isn't her fault at all...sheisn't getting enough attention and she is so happy to see us she goes crazy!!! My husband works all day and I can't walk her with two children under 3. So it leaves us no ther choice but to rehome her. We are devasted to rehome her but we know that she deserves to be somewhere where she is has plenty of attention...she is WAY to smart and loving!!!!! We live right on a very busy road so I'm so scared to let her out the front...the only place I will let her out is the fenced in backyard and she is messing everything up!!!! This is so hard! |

Have you tried contacting a Weimaraner rescue? http://www.weimrescue.com/dotnet/default.aspx |
What state are you in? You should contact the Weim rescue and let them have her. They will take good care of her and find her the perfect home. The only thing wrong with your dog is that she has not been trained at all. They do not know what's expected of them unless you train. That includes jumping up on everyone. As for pooping in the yard, well this is where dogs are supposed to poop, and we as humans pick it up all the time so that it doesn't become a messy problem. |
If you pick up her poop right after she goes there would be one problem solved. |
They even have companies that come to your house and clean up the poo |
I am sorry it is not working out for you all, sounds like she is young! she will probably settle down as she gets older. It always takes sometime to get evertthing adjusted! I do not know where you live, but I have a GF that lost her weim, to addisons , last fall! she wants to get another- and has looked and even fostered 2!she lives in Iowa! she would give it a good home! |
My advice....clean up after your dog - handled. Actually perhaps she would do better in another home. Good luck! |
Ya know girls, she is trying to find a good home for her dog...why all the slamming. I think she knows what she should do, but right now she needs help. |

I am glad you are trying to find her a good home. From what I can tell your family situation just doesn't seem right at all for her. She needs training, walks, and other things to become a well behaved dog and it doesn't appear you have the time or desire to do that for her. She is "messing everything up" in the backyard because she has a lot of energy and is bored silly. If she isn't getting enough attention and exercise she's definitely bored and frustrated which is why she jumps on everyone. As far as her going to the bathroom, I'm not sure where else you expect her to go. Cleaning up after her poo is your job as a dog owner. I'm not trying to be harsh and I do agree she would do better in a home that has the time and energy to help her become well trained and give her the attention she needs. I would try contacting a rescue for her breed and they can work with her and then find her the perfect home once she has been trained somewhat. |

i agree! |
This thread is a great example of why it's important to research a breed before you purchase it. Without much research at all you would find that the Weimaraners "need extensive exercise and training. Its prized for its physical endurance and stamina. No walk is too far, and they appreciate games and play. Weimaraners are high-strung and often wear out their owners, requiring appropriate training to learn how to calm them and to help them learn to control their behavior. Owners need patience and consistent, firm (yet kind) training, as this breed is particularly rambunctious during the first year and a half of its life. This breed is known for having a penchant for stealing food from table and counter tops whenever given the chance. Like many breeds, untrained and unconfined young dogs often create their own fun when left alone, such as chewing house quarters and furniture. Thus, many that are abandoned have behavioural issues as a result of isolation and inferior exercise. It should never be forgotten that the Weimaraner is a hunting dog and therefore has a strong, instinctive prey drive. Weimaraners will sometimes tolerate cats, as long as they are introduced to the cats as puppies, but many will chase and frequently kill almost any small animal that enters their garden or backyard." This information was taken from http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Weimaraner Please do research before buying an animial, and don't buy on looks alone. A word of caution: Many research sites leave out the fact that dogs poop, I'm not sure the reason for this oversite. Big dog, big poop. . . . . . little dog, little poop. I know of no breed that cleans it's own poop. Good luck on finding a good home for your dog, I hope you inform the new owners of the high needs of this dog. It's hard on an animal that has to be rehomed. |

Hello, again! I am from Alabama...Thank you all so much for the information that was a positive feedback. I choose to ignore people that don't have anything better to do than be just plain rude. I'm probably going to get her spayed before she leaves because I really do not want her to be bred...sheis theerfect family dog and needs to have tons of attention and love. Do rescues get them spayed/neutured before leaving? |
Good luck finding her a perfect home. Tammy |

Yes, a reputable rescue will have the dog spayed or neutered prior to adopting him or her out. If the rescue does not spay or neuter then in my oppinion it is not a reputable rescue. PLEASE locate a good Weimeran rescue. They know the breed and will work with her and find her the perfect home. Elaine |

That is a beautiful breed...but very energetic. They need TONS of exercise and attention. A friend of mine called me and asked if I thought this would be the dog for him....I said "No". He was recently divorced and worked long hours...some out of town. He got her anyway and it didn't go well at all. After replacing many items in his house...including the carpeting, he put her outside full time (which I disagree with). We ALL do things that don't work out. I hope you find her a wonderful home with someone who adores this breed and knows all that comes with it. Larger breed poop piles do seem HUGE after having Yorkies, don't they:eek:. |

I'm just now seeing this thread, and it really does upset me. I'm not about being a negative person, but you were forewarned when you asked about weims before you got this puppy. Why did you ask a question if you chose not to listen to the answers? here is my exactly quote from your other thread: "My friend has one weim. and two boxers, and no offense to the OP or any of you other weim-loving folks, but that dog is JUST TOO ROUGH for my yorkies. We sometimes go over there just for an hour or something, and I MYSELF feel overwhelmed by that dog, so I can't imagine how Kobi & Kiwi must feel. I think 90% of it is that the owner (my friend) just needs to exercise her WAY more than she does...she is literally the most hyper dog I have ever seen. 10% I think is the breed. IMO, I would never own a weim. with a yorkie---too dangerous of a situation, but that's just my choice. I do think they are absolutely a BEAUTIFUL dog...one of the most breathtakingly beautiful breeds!" And I was not the only one that made a comment that weims are too hyper (IMO) for yorkies, much less small children. I'm sorry. I really hope you find a good home for your dog. I just wish, like others in this thread, that people would research breeds before they pick one :( |
Best of luck to you finding a new home or rescue for your Weimer. We have a male Wiemer named Smokey, and our yorkies are too much for him! Lol! He dosen't know how to deal with them at times and its kind of funny to see the roles reversed. |
I'm sorry you got that mixed up. I did not post anything about weims and boxers. I had this weimaraner before I even got yorkies and before I even knew about this website, so that WAS NOT me. We have decided to keep Pixie and we are beyond excited. We decided to get rid of all our yorkies except one. Me and my babies go out everyday to play with her and while the kids play for a little bit I play fetch and then I try to get her to play with the kids and teach her not to jump. She is doing exceptionally well! When my husband comes in after supper he takes her for a long walk. So she is getting alot more exercise now. We are getting her spayed next month. I'm not sure if that helps with calming them a bit but I have always heard it does. Thank you all for most of your replies. |
