It's so sad.... In addition to Zoe, we have a collie who is 10 1/2 years old now and she's been starting to have trouble getting around. The vet says she's got arthritis in her hind hips and it seems to be getting worse. She has fallen down the stairs twice this week and this morning I'm worried about her. When she falls, she doesn't go end over end, she just kinda slides down on her butt and she seems fine but I don't know what to do. I hate to make her sleep downstairs by herself but I'm getting worried that she's going to really get hurt one of these days. My husband and I are really getting worried. Losing her would be so hard on the kids. and us too. She's just getting old and I feel so bad for her. I'm getting myself all worked up her as if she's already gone. I must have hormone issues or something. :( |

Awwwww, I know you are worried!!!! Hopefully, its just the cold weather making her slow down. |
They say the life expectancy for collies is 10-12 years. She is really in good shape other than this one thing so I was hoping she would last a lot longer than that! I just envision us having to carry her upstairs and outside to go potty. I'm just emotional today for some reason. But yes, I'm gonna call the vet this morning and ask if there is anything they can give her. I'm thinking maybe it's worse now that it's getting cold here? |
I thnk the vet will have something to help her. My pom is 10 1/2 and has several major illnesses and I had thought she would last until she was at least 15. It is so sad to see them age. I hope they can give her something to make her arthritis better. |
Can you gate her downstairs. I know it would be hard but atleast she'd be safe. |
oh no, that is so sad ... I hope there is something the vet can give him to ease the pain and allow him to go up and down the stairs .... |
Oh I'm sorry, i've been having some issues with Abby too. Her back legs giving out. She was a rescue and I'm thinking she's older then the vet says. :( I'm sorry, it's hard and sad, i know how you feel. |
(((tjdmom))) Have you tried any supplements to help her out with her hips? Its so sad watching our furbabies get old and we have to face the fact that they aren't immortal. |

I'm sorry:( It's a sad thing to see them go thru that! I had a Cavalier that also got arthritis and was so bad we had to put him to sleep. He was only 8 yrs old. He would drag his back legs around and looked to be in pain. I would suggest massaging her legs and body, and keeping her very warm, especially now in the winter, use a heating pad. |
