We do have all sorts of curry sold here ranging form Chinese to Indian and a few others in between. Of them all Indian curry over here seems to have the most spice in it and Chinese is so full of onion it is not worth eating anyway. I think that they alter the recipe to suit the pallet of the country they are in at the time as I have travelled all over the world and the curry in other countries is just so different to ours. In Hong Kong the Chinese curry was beautiful and we could order so many different ones according to how much spice we wanted in it. In Libya the curry was hot and spicy yet in India the food was so spicy I could not eat it without a fire extinguisher close to hand. I just do not know of any curry which is called "English" unless you mean curry made in England for the English pallet. |

I confess that I think that must be what she meant. Wasn't tikka masala "invented" in England tho?? At least that is one of the story versions I had heard  In fact its a British Dish, yes I know you think Im telling a tall story. Chicken Tikka Masala is not an Indian dish but was in fact invented in a curry house in Birmingham. someone ordered chicken tikka - which is chicken pieces cooked in spices and served dry - but complained when it arrived as they wanted a "wet" curry so the chef added a basic sauce to it and called it chicken tikka masala - "chicken bits and sauce". Also a vindaloo is a british curry made by curry houses as a very hot dish to get revenge on bad customers. Funny thing is it took off! Funny but true and also my fave British dish! Some dishes may or possibly could have been invented in UK but you can bet your socks if it was then it was by an Asian or Chinese person. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chicken_tikka_masala |

I confess I totally agree Brian! There is no English Curry. Just curry's made in an English type style. Like the Curry we have here is Americanized most likely. The Curry House I go to here in Sarasota rotates her chefs from India every 6 months. She claims it's so they don't get Americanized :p |
I confess I still haven't eaten any curry or even seen it, yet! |

Did you know that England was "transporting" criminals to America from 1610 to 1770, long before sending them to Australia ? Penal transportation - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia This is one of the things I love about this forum I can learn so much and not just about dogs. |
