N. E. Pennsylvania is in a heat wave, 45 yesterday, today until Monday temps to be 39 to 45, still not warm enough to melt the amount of snow we've gotten over the last 4 weeks . |
Ouch Almost every bit of our snow has melted here |
1 Attachment(s) I gained back 2" of my driveway today with heat wave temp of 45 Have a "bit" more to go lol. |
Is that Betty Boop in the background 😊 |
Yes it is. That's my Valentine banner lol, the snow in the front yard is over 2 1/2 feet, I need to get my St. Patrick banner up, looks like that ain't gonna happen. They're calling for rain this weekend, so doing the rain dance here. |
Sigh Does it seem it’s taken forever for St. Patrick’s day to get here |
Does it ever. Hoping this weekends rain will wash most of it away. Its so compacted but I have high hopes  |
Insects have been flying around the past few days and I looked in the flower bed and a lily is popping up |
2 Attachment(s) Wow its kinda early for lily's. I had 25 varieties of lily's until last summer. New Jersey and Pennsylvania just got invaded last summer with with a new insect called a spotted lanternfly. As my lilys sprouted these insects ate every leaf, I was left with stems only. I don't know if they will grow back this year. Lily's are my fav. flower. Strange thing is, I Gerber daisy's,new guniea impatiens, caladium 30 feet away from the lily garden in planters these insects never touched those flowers. On my deck I had pots of various flowers, not attacked by this insect. This is a very attractive looking insect, I will see if I can attach some pics. My early Spring flowers to sprout their lil heads are Crocus. |
I hope, the lilies don’t get frostbite |
Is there a way you can put clear plastic over them without the plastic touching them, that will protect them from frost. |
Here in Pa. we have to wait until May 15th for any outdoor planting, that's "supposed" the safe date for no frost, but it doesn't always work out that way. Since I had a variety of lily's some would start growing mid April, but I am able to use plastic to protect them. |
I probably should have leafy the leaves on them that had fallen. It’s crazy this soon after the cold and snow seeing all the insects buzzing around |
Never leave dropped leaves, that promotes mold on flowers and an invitation to unwanted insects. For winter you can cover the bed with tree leaves, but don't tamp them down, roots need air to grow tamped leaves will smother roots. I leave a layer of leaves in all my garden beds. |
I'm winning, at least until the rest of you wake up. Thanks for this moment. |
Unless, you’re a real early riser, I got this 🌝 |
Good morning, or afternoon..... I've got this :) |
Good morning to you. Can you do me a favor and hit little beach and snap some pictures for me? 🌝 |
