Sad sad...this is the reason why I ended up buying my own dog. Tried to adopt and applied to a few rescues. Turned down point blank just because I do not have a yard, lived in a condo eventhough I am at home 24/7. Weird policies. I even had a phone interview at one point of time and the lady was asking me in a rude way if I will let my dog run leash free when I walk it. I said no I will never because I live in the city and she made it sound like I will  Needless to say, I didn't get the dog. |
too sad Quote:
and why do i feel that they will charge another adoption fee to Ellen's hairdresser? I think this 'rescue' group is all about money and not for the dog's well being first!!!:2omg: How does one become a "rescue" group? What standards do they have to meet??? I hope for the best for this family and for the doggie. |
the rules really should be changed... this makes me so upset. i feel terrible for all of them.. |
There are 5342 signatures on the petition right now. That Mutts and Moms lady sure is stubborn! |

If they thing this is going to do anything good for their organization, they are dumb, dumb, dumb. |
Another thread this morning said the contract read "no children under 14" how insane is that. Children would never have a dog. I can see 5 and under for small dogs but even then there are children with parents who have children that young that can teach them to treat animals kindly. |
I saw a clip of her on ET and she was really bawling. She really seemed affected by this. I bet those kids must be so sad, especially since they get attached very easily. :( |
You would think that a little common sense would prevail. But NOOO.....the lady at the rescue organization has a chip on her shoulder (as do a lot of rescues, regardless of the amount of good they do), and has decided to make it a personal and a control issue. SHE's in charge and she wants to make sure everybody knows it. No celeb is going to tell her what to do...even if it's the RIGHT thing and in the DOG's best interest. She's only concerned about HERSELF, which makes me SICK. Anyone who knows anything about Ellen DeGeneres, knows she LOVES animals and would never do anything to hurt them. She's also a RESPONSIBLE pet owner and went out of her way to take care of this dog...do ya really think she's going to just give it to any yayhoo that comes along? No, she gave it to someone she knows very well, and trusts to be a good pet home. What the organization did was wrong, and when they got called on it,( b/c Ellen DOES have a venue to bring it to light), the woman decided to get defensive and say "I'm the BOSS here, and what I say GOES". and she thinks she's being so cool and playing the victim at the hands of a wealthy celebrity. The VICTIM here is the DOG and those poor kids, and for her to make it all about HER is testament to what her "rescue organization" is all about. I personally hope the organization goes under as well as her Paws Boutique. |
Just in: The attorney for Mutts & Moms tells "The Insider" that ELLEN DeGENERES' formerly adopted dog has been placed in a new home. On her show Wednesday, Ellen addressed the importance of micro-chipping pets to insure proper ownership. She contends that the reason she cannot claim ownership of her adopted dog, IGGY, is because his identity chip was still registered to the rescue agency. Sources tell ET that while the agency claims Ellen broke her contract by giving him away to a trusted co-worker, the Mutts & Moms owners themselves have not followed all the rules set by their company. They allegedly did not require Ellen or her partner PORTIA DeROSSI to fill out an application, nor did they change the registered owner information as they said they would. Additionally, it is said the contract in question does not contain an age clause, another reason given by Mutts & Moms for taking back the dog. Our sources also tell us the family Ellen gave the dog to -- her hairdresser, his wife and their two pre-teen daughters -- did fill out an application online when the dog took up residence with them. It was at that time the agency said they would come out to inspect their property as part of the adoption process. Instead, they reclaimed the dog and calling the police. As Mutts & Moms were officially registered as the owners by the chip, authorities turned over custody to them. http://www.theinsideronline.com/news...361/index.html So sad and disappointing. :thumbdown I'm sure this isn't the end of it though. |
Just watching this video the rescue did I see tons of back peddling and outright lies, I've seen they're website. it looks like a BYB peddler who aslo sells high priced and high fashion dog gear. and from alot of sites I've been too they're all claiming Iggy was adopted out that Monday morning. Talk about a turn around. Ten to one. they've got a larger adopt fee from him because he was onced owned by Ellen. shame on that rescue. That's why I'll never rescue. some of the bigger rescues are almost Nazi like in they're search for the "Perfect" home. tyty |
All of this has me thinking about the different rescue apps I've looked at. They all ask about fences, but I haven't seen one yet that asks if you've ever been accused of or charged with animal cruelty or been investigated or arrested for child abuse. Seems like they wouldn't want to adopt to those people but the app doesn't cover this. Do they do a background check on people who are adopting to weed these out? |
Iggy Who here wants to make bets that this rescue changes it's name..since this has happened, and they are getting a bad name..some one said they also sell dog clothing etc..well who is going to buy from them now. I would hope no one!!!!! They sound no better then what puppy mills do also, they just move on, as abusers of children when caught, they just move on.. I wish Ellen could do something more about this situation, and go back on them for not changing the microchip name to Ellen's. She must have some kind of receipt that says she paid x many dollars for the dog in the first place..I cannot see her going to a rescue facility and just walking out with a dog, no papers or anything..none of them are free. Also wanted to add, I went to the site and omg, that iggy is a doll, of course children would fall in love with such a precious dog. pooh's mum |
I felt very bad for Ellen. She was so sincere and genuine and sounded like she really did have the dog's best interests at heart :( |
