I don't agree with how that organization handled that situation :thumbdown |
Wow, if some of you, who are wonderful dog owners, are turned down by rescues how does anyone hope to be approved? I looked into some rescues recently and I do have a wooden privacy fence, but the application went on to ask if the gate had a padlock on it and if the fence had underground extensions so that the dog can't dig out. I personally have only heard of our Wolf Park in Lafeyette having an underground chicken wire type extension to keep the wolves from digging out. Also, just a fence doesn't protect these guys. We're supposed to stay outside with them anyway. Is a fence going to keep a bird from swooping down and stealing one of them for a quick dinner? I wish the rescue would just let Ellen pay a second adoption fee for this family and let them keep the little doggy. I feel so sorry for all involved - dog, kids, mom, Ellen & her family. How devastating. And it will make a lot not want to even try to adopt from a rescue. |
This is why a lot of people would rather go out and buy a dog than to deal with a rescue. I know that they have the dog's best interests in mind, but there comes a point when it's overdone. Sometimes it's like buying a second mother-in-law to be in your business, judge you, and criticize you for not being perfect. No offense to mother-in-laws! But would a rescue rather have a dog die or sit in a pen than live with someone without a fenced yard? At least Ellen didn't lie like I'm sure a lot of people do. |
I saw this video, and it is just SO awful. I cried like a baby while watching Ellen beg and plead for the rescue shelter to give the dog back to that family and those poor kids. This just ISN'T right. They should of left that dog right where it was - in a loving and happy home. How could they do something like this  This just makes me SO ANGRY!!!! |

IMO they are NOT doing what is best for the dog. This dog has already went from home to home. They could have just interviewed them like they said they were instead of lie and take the dog away. |

I bet a million, that if this hadn't had to do with a famous person it would never have happened. |
The video of Ellen pleading make me cry too. This is such a sad situation and it sounds like the woman has a personal vendetta against Ellen. She should be ashamed of herself. |
I seriously wonder if they are more upset because they gave Ellen the dog in the hopes that she would sponsor their fundraisers and that they could use her for promotional reasons. I bet they cave in, however, once they realize that the community will probably take away alot of their funding because of their actions. There are alot of people very disappointed over their behavior. |
I think that's awful. :( I saw the picture of Ellen crying and yahoo and it made me want to cry. I haven't watched the video yet. While she may have made a mistake, it's not like she went and gave away Iggy to a puppy mill or something. Obviously, she was thinking about the dogs' best interest. and why punish the family for someone else's fault? |
this is just all around sad. I don't understand why the rescue didn't just go in and assess the new home. This would have saved everyone so much hurt. Because while I realize rescues have rules, this is only going to hurt this organization. You should see all the comments on Ellen's website! |

Thanks for posting the web sites ... I DVRed her show, and will watch it asap ... certainly seems silly to take the dog away from a loving home .... I agree, they should have left the dog where he was happy and well taken care of. Ellen has always made it known that she cares about animals ... she did what she thought was best for the dog. And personally I do not understand the shelter behaving as it did ... shame on them. Quote:
