I'm afraid I've been scammed As I said in an earlier thread, we adopted 2 mini schnauzers last night from a lady who said that she was rehoming them for her parents. She said that her parents travel a lot and the dogs have been in the kennel too often while her parents are gone and she convinced her parents that the dogs deserved a new home where they wouldn't be boarded so much. So, she forgot their vet paperwork and said that she would call me today to get our fax number to fax their vaccine info and their paperwork showing that they're purebred. She said she never has her dogs wear collars or tags so she gave me an envelope w/ their rabies tags. She also gave me an unopened box of heartgard plus & an unopened box of flea preventative. So this morning I open the envelope w/ the rabies tags so that I can attach them to their collars. There were 3 tags. I figured she accidentally gave me one belonging to her parents cockapoo who she's also rehoming. Well, I called the vet on the tag to find out which of the 3 tags belongs to the 2 dogs that I have so that I could send her back the extra tag. The vet said that one of the tags belongs to a shelter pup, one belongs to a mixed breed brindle dog, and the third belongs to a deceased dog!!! So, I called the lady & got her voice mail. I didn't mention the tags because I figured I'd never hear from her again if I did. I just gave her our fax number and asked her to fax all of their vacc. info & vet info like she'd said she would do. Now I'm wondering if these guys even have their vaccines. Am I right in assuming that since Sugar is up to date on her shots that she's okay around them? It looks like the only thing she told us the truth about is the nature of the dogs. They are both sweet and well behaved. Ugh! Why am I so gullible? I'm hoping she'll have a good explanation about the tags but I'm not holding my breath. |
OH NO!! I hate when ppl are dishonest!:( Well i hope everything gets worked out. I think they are fine around her as long as they don't have parasites like Giardia and coccidia or Parvo i would get them to your vet asap to get a poop sample and have them checked out. Congrats on your new babies though! |
When you called the vet on the tags did you ask whether or not they had files on dogs like the ones you have? Maybe her parents' name is similar to hers? IDK...maybe he doesn't have that many of that breed? Just a thought. You might also take them in to have them scanned for a microchip. I hope it's all on the up and up, but what if they are stolen or something? |
I hope it's just a mix up. If not I'm sorry she did this to you. Atleast you are enjoying the dogs. |
this just plain suckss that people are that way. Can you get any of your money back? I hope so. |
I'm going to take them and have them scanned for microchips just in case they are stolen. As soon as I heard about the tags it made me wonder if maybe they were stolen. I don't believe that I could get my money back because I asked her if something didn't work out if I could return them to her and she said no. I was a little surprised about that but thought maybe since they belonged to her parents she didn't want to be bothered with finding another home for them. I really only wanted to take the larger one as a trial and see how it worked with three dogs but she said she wouldn't take him back. I could see her point so I didn't press her for more info. I hope they weren't stolen, but if they were I will return them to their owners. We'll be out $300 but it would be worth it to reunite them. Right now I know they both need their teeth cleaned and the small one needs to be neutered. My vet is very reasonable so it will be around $300 to have all of that done. Unfortunately, if I can't prove they have their vaccines I'll have to pay for all of that before they work on them. I'm just so glad that they are so well behaved. If I was having trouble with them on top of this I would be really upset. I have a feeling I'll not hear from this woman again. I hope I'm wrong about that but I doubt I am. This is definitely a learning experience! |
I hope its a mix-up too. Bless your heart. People can be something else. I would keep them separated from my other dog until they get a clean bill of health from your vet. Better to be safe than sorry. They very well could be stolen. Its a shame what people will do for a dollar. Hope everything works out for you. At least they will be loved and have a good home with your family. |
o man...that sucks sorry!!!! i hope everything works out... please update us! |
im sorry this is happening to you i hope you get to the bottom of this oh and could you post pics we would love to see the new furbutts!!! |
Oh my, sounds like something fishy is going on!!!! Do you think she stole the dogs from someone? I am assuming you had to pay her for the dogs. Hopefully, it is just an honest mistake. Perhaps she just gave you the wrong envelope. I was glad to hear how sweet the dogs are!!!! I hope it all works out. Keep us posted. |
I am sorry your going through this. At least you got two great dogs out of it |
Well, if they were stolen, maybe the owners would be willing to help repay you for your honesty? Hope they arent stolen and that everything works out for you. Best wishes! |
Maybe its just a simple mix up. I know one time when I took laney to get her shots they were out of tags, but told me they would send me one when they got them in. They never did send one so I picked one up when I went the next time. They just gave me the next tag in line which was not the same # as on her paperwork. One little slipup and it can through the whole # system off. |
Here's a link to the thread w/ pics of the new mini schnauzers. http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/showthread.php?t=98051 The latest in this saga is that she actually faxed us copies of printouts from the vets office and it looks like she must work there. Her email address begins w/ k9nurse so I thought she worked at a vets office and then the fax came from the vets office that the rabies tags are from. There's a printout for each dog w/ a list of vaccinations and the rabies tag numbers match the ones that I have. She put a note at the bottom that said, "Sorry for the confusion this morning". Now, my question is, how could the person who looked up the three separate tag numbers this morning be wrong on all of them? Also, if she works at the vet wouldn't it be possible for her to change the name of the dog on the computer? I just really don't trust any of this. I'm really getting stressed about all of this and feel that I've made a mistake in getting them. I feel on the verge of tears all of the time. I really only intended to get one of them and I let myself be convinced into taking both of them. I'm trying to go with the flow and not worry about anything. Easier said than done for me though. I'm a born worrier and this isn't helping things. |
