What is brewer's yeast? Is it like regular yeast? | I'm sorry it took me so long to see this...Brewer's Yeast is a strain of the same kind of yeast you use for baking, but it's not quite as sweet. You can use it for baking breads, but most people don't. They use it extensively for brewing beer. But the reason most people use it on food is b/c it has a lot of B vitamins in it. I just like the flavor of it....the best kind is the kind you get in the health food stores in bulk that are FLAKES, the kind you can buy in jars in some grocery stores isn't very tasty . I think some people even sprinkle it on their dog's/cat's foods to help prevent fleas (I have no idea if it actually works for that).
Regarding baked potatoes, I forgot to mention that my favorite way is to scrub them off in water, then use garlic salt and pepper on the skin and bake them til the skin is kind of crispy. Some people don't eat the skin, but that's really where (supposedly) the vitamins are.
I have a girlfriend who said once (and I'll never forget it) "I consider a baked potato merely a vehicle for butter and sour cream", LOL:eek: . |
