The dog next door The couple next door has a very old, mixed rottie named Bear. She can hardly get around - she drags her back end - and has no teeth at all. The neighbors say she's about 14 years old. I don't see them feed her or give her water or even pay any attention to her at all. I leave food and water out for her on the other side of my back fence. 2 nights ago, my son and I came home and saw Bear lying in the ditch beside my driveway. Mitch got out and both of us thought she was dead. He went to the neighbors' house to tell them and they came out to check on her. She could pick up her head, but that's all. The man went back inside and came out with a gun and shot her:( It just broke my heart! I just feel like that poor old girl deserved better than that! I didn't know the guy was going to shoot her! I just needed to vent about this, it really tore me up. |
:eek: Poor Bear! No dog deserves that .... even if there is no "quality of life" left! One would think that a loyal pet, that old, would deserve the respect of humane euthenasia! Poor baby .... Bear, RIP. That just breaks my heart. :( |

OH MY GOD.......I was not expecting to read that. I would of called the police or something. That is illegal here in NY! I hope they never own a dog again. Obviously he is a cheap bastard that he could not do the right thing and bring Bear to be put to sleep. He better hope that when he is old laying in a bed of pee someone does not give him the same fate. I am so angry and I don't even know these people!:mad: |

OMG what a f'in horrible person. When he shot is poor dog he should of turned that damn gun on himself and done the same to him. I truely believe there is a special place in hell for these type of people |
I would have been like a lunatic. How can you do that to your dog. I would have reported him to the authorities. There's a lot more humane ways to put your dog out of it's misery. |

I would report that to the police. Shooting a dog to kill it was officially deamed a non-humane way to euthanize a dog. So I'm pretty sure they'd get charged with animal cruelty... |

I promise you, it was horrible. It's been a couple of days now and I still can't get it off my mind. I should've emptied my groceries at home and loaded her up to go to the vet, but they were home and I had no idea he'd do something like that. They still have 3 jack russells. 1 stays in the house unless it escapes - then my son takes it back home - then the other 2 are chained in the backyard inside a fence because they can both jump it. The county I live in is about to pass a regulation that dogs can't be chained at all and I can't wait until it happens. I don't associate with these people - they're kind of trashy - but I see these poor dogs every day! |
That is the most unbelievable thing ever!!! :eek: :eek: :eek: My stomach is sick thinking about it. I can't believe he did that!!! What did he do with Bear afterwards? Just leave him there? What a horrible, horrible person! :( |

I would freak out if someone came outside with a gun and discharged it in a residential area. That is reckless. It is also cruel. Next time that dog escapes, dont take it home, take it to a no kill shelter before he blows it's brains out too. I hope you are able to put it out of your mind soon. What a terrible thing for you to see. |

I live out in the country. The laws state that you can't discharge a firearm inside the city limits, but doesn't mention the county. I own guns, but I have to go to a gun range to practice with them. It would even be different if Bear had been hit by a car and injured to the point where she was literally crazy with pain or in pieces, (It was after vet hours [I think any vet would've met the man at the office in this case] and the nearest ER vet is 2 hours away) but she wasn't - she was just lying there trying to get up. The guy laid her in a sheet and dragged her to the edge of his backyard and buried her. |

I\'m going to talk to my oldest son - he was a policeman here for almost 10 years and still has friends on the police force and @ the sheriff\'s dept to see if anything can be done. |
Kim I am in no way trying to be mean.... But why did you not report them before? you were feeding her because they didn\'t that is willful neglect. |

oh my...I cannot believe someone would do that, how disturbing and I am sorry that you had to watch that! I would definitely talk with your son to see if anything can be done..that poor doggie! |
