How did your husband propose to you? I thought it would be neat to hear all of your proposal stories! Let's see all the sweet/crazy stories you've all got about how your hubbies popped the big question! |
Jim and I were in high school and it was summer. We were working in a program for low income kids helping with a big move to a new school building. When we were talking to the others Jim would say things like, when we get married we'll do this or that. I finally said you keep saying that but you've never asked me. He said he would get around to it eventually. An hr later he said how about it? will you marry me? I told hm I would think about it and they let him squirm for about a minute then said yes. We were upcoming seniors at the time and we'll celebrate 25 yrs of marriage this December. |
My husband asked my father for my hand, and then came got down on his knee and proposed to me in my living room. I thought it was so cute, because after he proposed my dad came out, and said are you happy baby? |
We were at a jewelry store with a friend of his who was buying a ring for his g/f. I was helping HIM pick out a ring for her. I found one I absolutely fell IN LOVE with. DH bought it and proposed to me right there in the store. It took me a minute to get over the shock - I was so busy helping his friend pick out a ring I didn't even notice DH had bought the one I loved. After it registered that he had just asked me to marry him I finally said yes. :p |
Loving these! Thanks you guys for sharing! Keep 'em coming! |
Mark and I had been dating 7 years. He came over on Valentine's night with lots of candy and gifts for my 2 boys. After they went to bed he gave me a stuffed koala bear. I thought it was cute and kept playing with it. Mark took it away from me and opened the bear's paws and my engagement ring fell out. He just looked at me and said, "Don't you think it's about time"? |
Hubby was working in Colorado at the time. I lived at home with my parents in Georgia. We had been dating almost 5 years. He sent me a telegram that said -- Marry me and a few minutes later the delivery guy showed up at my office with a dozen red roses. |
Richard took me out to eat for my birthday and gave me my ring after dinner..and here we are 39 years, 3 kids and 4 grandkids later. |
Congrats to all of you celebrating so many years of marriage! You are a great example in this society of divorces! My husband and I have only been married 5 (almost 6) months! I knew it was coming sometime soon, but didn't know exactly when. I was studying for my semester finals on a Saturday morning, and went over to his house to use his internet (he was sleeping). I studied all morning, he woke up about noon, spent 3 hours playing X-box, then suddenly looked nervous and left, saying he'd be back at 6 to get me for dinner and a movie. As soon as he left the house, I jumped around the kitchen saying "Please God, please let it be today!!!!" I managed to study until 5, went and got pretty, and he picked me up. We went to a movie, he insisted on getting food afterwards, blindfolded me, and drove around for awhile. Finally he led me (still blindfolded) to what turned out to be a gazebo. He had a mariachi band waiting, and as soon as I sat down they started to play. I kept waiting for him to pop the question, but after about 2 hours of music, he started packing everything up to leave, and the band left. I asked where we were going next, and he said back home. I WAS DEVISTATED!!! He drove me home, and I cried all the way (silently of course). I practically jumped out of the car and ran to my apartment, but I fumbled for my keys and he caught up. I went into my apartment and straight to my bedroom. I had to walk in and turn on the light from the fan, and when I did there were TONS of rose petals at the foot of my bed, 2 dozen roses, and letters spelling "Marry Me" I took about 4 seconds to understand, and as I turned around, I said "Finally! I was so disappointed!" He sat there just laughin at me until I said "You already know the answer, but you have to ASK!" He did, and we're SO happy! Long story, I know, but it sets the stage! |
awwww i loved reading these  hopefully in the next few years i'll be able to write one lol... |

I met my husband at the U.S. O. in Chicago during the war . He was away for awhile and then came back and we had a fairly long courtship. My folks knew him well but his Mom and Dad were in Greece with the FAA so when they got back after a year my hubby took me to Falls Church, Va. to meet them. We had looked at rings earlier in Chicago and I didn't know that he bought one.....so one evening after an outside Louie Armstrong concert in D.C. ( close to falls church) we drove to the Capitol bldg and it was such a beautiful sight with all the lights on it and about midnight he asked me to marry him and of course I said 'Yes" Memories!! |
oh, these are so sweet - I've laughed & had watery eyes reading your comments. Wishing I had one that mattered to add - still praying to meet him!! Suzy, what a great thread - but I think its your turn to add your story |
These are so great you guys! I love it! |
My husband completely surprised my. I had no Idea Brian had even gotten me a ring! He came home from work and took a shower got dressed to take me out and when he approached me he got down on his knee and took my hand into his and said how much I meant to him and he asked me to marry him while slipping the ring on I was so shocked that I was just looking at my ring and I kissed him and he goes "does this mean yes?" We will be celebrating 15 years of marriage on this October 23! |
I've actually posted mine on here before-under a most embarassing moment thread, actually! It's kind of long, but it all leads up to it! One night, my wonderful boyfriend took me out to a nice dinner...he had just gotten an internship, and a new suit for his new job, so we went out to celebrate. I even went and bought a new dress since we were going to the nicest restaurant in town. This boyfriend and I had been together 4 years, so I was thinking it was about time he proposed, but I wasn't sure...He picked me up-in a brand new Cadillac rental car (he told me his car was in the shop), and took me to dinner. The wait staff was wonderful and attentive, the wine list extensive, and the food was amazing. Somewhere after 2 glasses of wine and dinner, and before dessert, I decided to bring up our relationship...I bugged him about when he'd propose to me, and that we'd been together for so long, and blah blah...then decided to get up and go to the ladies' room before dessert. I thought about my words while I was gone, and decided that I had gone too far. I came back to the table, and explained to my boyfriend how it was ok to wait, I didn't want him to rush anything, and that it was ok with me if we waited awhile to get engaged. I wanted it to be right, and for us to both be ready and I apologized for pushing him about the issue. The waitress comes back to the table, and asks if we want dessert, to which I decline, since I am so stuffed from dinner-but my boyfriend, with the big appetite says he's interested in dessert, so the waitress says she'll bring the dessert tray by for us to look at. A few minutes later, the waitress comes by and presents a tray of desserts, which she places in front of me on the table, and walks off. I look down, and the dessert tray has no sweets on it, but is covered in red and pink rose petals, with a small box in the middle of it.... And that my friends is how I got engaged to my now husband! CAN YOU SAY FOOT IN MOUTH??? |
I've had 2 proposals. The first one... I came home from work and there were rose petals from the front door to the doorway into the kitchen. At the end of the rose petals, he was on one knee with a ring in one hand and yellow roses in the other. I hadn't even put my purse down before I flew into his arms. The second one....He had a boat and we went to a local lake. I was complaining because it was later in the afternoon and I didn't see why we should haul everything to the lake to only have a few hours of daylight. While on the lake we were watching another boat of a sweet little family and he said, "would you like to have that, a sweet little family?" I said "of course", he said, "well then would u like to marry me? and he opened a hatch and pulled out roses and a ring and a bottle of champagne. Although my engagements and marriage didn't work out,(I only married one of them) I love thinking back on those times! |
My husband had just started the Police Academy and I was in College. It was Valentines Day and I had the flu. I collect Precious Moments - so there I am laying in my bed and he gives me a Precious Moment, the one w/the little boy down on one new proposing to the girl sitting on the bench. I look at him kind of taken back and say "Thats really cute but usually you would only give it to someone you were going to propose to" Well to my surprise after he was looking at me alittle confused I realized that he had tied the ring around the dogs neck that is on the figurine. It was so cute. Everyone knew but me. We got married 2yrs later and we have been married for almost 11 1/2yrs w/two children! I married my high School sweetheart!!! |
I posted a thread on here because it was only a few months ago when my fiance (I hope this isn't just for hubbies:) ) proposed, but he surprised me with a trip to vegas, and the last night there we ate at The Top of the World and proposed when we got our champaigne! |
Ok I have the most romantic one. :D I had been living with him for 8 months and I was 6 months pregnant......and one day out of the blue he says "you wanna do this"? The next week we got married at the court house. That was 22 years ago.....not the most romantic proposal but thinking back that he had a full blown out wedding with his first wife and it didn't last a full year I made out pretty well!;) |
I am not engaged but did anyone see 'Serendipity' the movie? I love that movie..anyway Kate Beckingsale, when her 'fiance' in the movie proposed to her i thought it was SOOOOO ROMANTIC! In case you didn't see it he put candles all over the room, and flowers i think. Then he had a HUGE box waiting for her when she got home. She opened it and inside was a smaller box, and so on, so on until she got to one tiny little box, which was the engagement ring. I always thought that was a sweet way to do it, privately and romantic. :) |

We had been dating for only about maybe less than a month. We had gone out to dinner, I had a couple of glasses of wine, and I was feeling "frisky". I asked him if he wanted to do "it", of course he did not refuse. We had a romping bout of sex and he asked me to marry him shortly thereafter. This was in Oct 1997, we got married in Dec 1997 and it will be 10 years in Dec. We are still very much in love, happily married and going strong. (Yes we are still have great sex together too.;) ) |
well me and Hubby were dating for 9 years before we got married, and it was me that pushed the issue, i was just sick of living together, plus he wanted a baby and i said no way until we get married.... so about a two years ago right after Valintines day he took me to the clark building down Pittsburgh and told me to pick out my ring :D cause he said if he would of picked it out i would of bitched.. he knows me to well... so we had it on lay away for awhile and he picked it up, and got down on one knee and asked me if i would marry him, and of coarse i said yes (about time ) and we went out for a very nice dinner.... then we got married last June - i got pregnant on our honeymoon, we have a beautiful baby boy Micah.... and i never been happier... it just happen so fast after that..... who would of thought after 9 years of dating that i would get pregnant on my honeymoon... guess i was just having to much fun ;) |
My husband and I met in the end of October and got engaged the first of December. He took me skydiving for my first time and when we were in the plane ascending he asked me in front of 8 other people. I was torn between being scared to death to jump, then looking at the view vs. looking at my ring on the way down! He was waiting in the drop zone when I finally landed with a bottle of champagne he had arranged for. The entire school knew about it and everyone was cheering. It is one of so many wonderful memories he has given me :) |
How's THIS for romantic:rolleyes: We had already been together for 5 years and had our daughter, who was getting ready to turn 2:eek: I was cleaning the house, and mopping the bathroom floor at that moment, when I heard him come in. He comes in the bathroom, gets down on one knee, and presents me with a ring and the proposal:laugh: I was mortified because I looked like crap and felt it wasn't very romantic:( Of course, here we are living together for 4 years and already had a baby together, so what are ya gonna do? This was both of ours' second marriage, so we put it off for a while wanting to be sure. He wanted to get married sooner, but I was having trouble getting my divorce finalized, as my ex-jerk kept writing to the judge, contesting it:mad: Anyway, we got married two days before Princess Diana died. It's been ups and downs, but we love each other still and plan on staying married forever:love: |
Hubby and I dated twice before, both times it just didn't work out. Finally, about 5 months after the second break up we decide to try one more time. The previous two we stayed together maybe a total of 3 months each time, if that. So we were both a little worried. It's like when we weren't together we couldn't date anyone else because we were so hung up on each other. We spent every second we could together and had great long talks and decided it was going to work this time. That was June of 2004. September 2004 is when he proposed. I had a really bad cold. I was feeling like crap. He had just gotten over a cold and so I wasn't to worried about him getting it from me. So he took me to his apartment and I wanted to take a nap on his bed. So I was just laying there, whining to him about how miserable I felt and he said "I have something that might make you feel better." I thought to myself, oh great he is going to give me some crappy medicine. Then he goes over by his dresser and brings me a small box. I was so excited! It sure did make me feel better! We got married August 2005 and we just had our first baby January 2007. We were both young, I was 18 and he had just turned 21 when we got married. I wouldn't have things any other way. The romance hasn't died one bit. I still get suprised with flowers, candy, you name it. I got the perfect hubby. :) |
