Here's one.... In the basement there are 3 light switches in the off position. Each switch controls 1 of 3 light bulbs on the floor above. You may move any of the switches, but you may only go up stairs one time. How can you determine which switch controls each light? |
I remember that one from along time ago. hummmmm I think you turn #1 on for a minute and turn it off and then turn #2 on. One will be hot, one will be on and one will be cold. |
light switch puzzle Quote:
go back upstairs and touch the 2 lights that were "OFF"... One of them will be hot b/c it was on for 5 minutes ... Then you can see that the HOT bulb was controlled by the first swtich you turned "ON" ... the light that is now on, is controlled by the last switch you turned "ON" ... The COLD bulb that is "OFF" is controlled by the only switch left ... |
New Math Riddle (The washing machine) :icon5:The Smiths' washing machine is old. It is so inefficient that it uses $40 more electricity each month than a new washing machine would use. The Smiths are thinking about buying a new washing machine for $1250. If the Smiths buy the new washing machine, how many months will it take for the savings on their energy bill to equal the cost of the new washing machine?:icon5: No Prize, just pride ... |

Hey when Monday's came up I didn't think it was as easy as that. I got 31 and 1/4 months too but I thought it might be a riddle and there had to be more to it. So if that is the answer and since you got two in a row you get a prize even tho prize was only for the first one. We don't even know if the light switch one was right yet and hahaha. |

If that is the case ... NO!!! |
ooops 27 if they are counted in the original 41 and 22?? Can someone send me a prize. LOL |
you could have gotten a *star* Quote:
So it will take one more month to save more than the cost of the refrigerator (32 months × $40 per month = $1280). Another way to solve this problem is to divide $1250 by $40/month, which gives 31.25 months. but you needed a full month more to pay it ...:2omg: |

One more try and if you get it right, I will send you a prize (but it goes against the rules, since you have been wrong twice ***sigh**) |
I'm leaving for a Dr's appt. I shall return. Wasn't the question how long will it take to equal the cost of the washing machine....don't have time to go back. See you all later. |
hmmmmm Quote:
It will take 32 months. After 31 months, the new washing machine will have saved an amount ($1240) almost equal to its cost (31 months × $40 per month = $1240) So it will take one more month to save more than the cost of the washing machine (32 months × $40 per month = $1280). Another way to solve this problem is to divide $1240 by $40/month, which gives 31.25 months. After talking it over with my chief consultant (Monday) ... I'll let you have it ...you have a point there. :star: but since we pay monthly ... it would take 32 months ... not a fraction of a month .I should have given you multiple choice answers to choose from .... but I cannot present a good argument for you NOT to have the right answer ...here have another star!!!! .:star: |
is the answer 135? and is there 90 in each ? |
and if it isnt that then is it 126? lol |
