Chrone's Disease

Does anyone have or know of someone that has this? Maybe im just being paranoid here...but I've been doing research about the stomach problems I have been having lately. And my dr just told me I have a stomach bacteria and prescribed medication that is similar to what is given to people with this disease...Any comments are greatly appreciated. Thank you...

I have a girlfriend with it. I don't know much about it but I know she's
suppose to watch what she eat's and is on medication.
We went to Italy together last year and she was always concerned
about getting an attack and not being close to a ladies room.
But she was ok.

sabsab00 10-05-2007 12:09 PM

Ive always had stomach issues....but all drs have told is that its gas and I need to eat regularly...But I recently had bloodwork done and they found a bacteria in my stomach. I was just on WedMD and all the symptoms...I seem to have. Ugggggh this is the last thing I need right now... I hope im just being paranoid......Do you know if the medication helps her? Does it just happen all of a sudden? Thanks for replying...

ARCHIE 10-05-2007 12:16 PM

I just called her but sorry she's not home.
I know the medication does help her but I don't know what it is.
I do know she has to stay away from spicy, gassy foods because
that will trigger an attack.

sabsab00 10-05-2007 12:19 PM

Oh - thanks so much for calling her! I really appreciate that....

ARCHIE 10-05-2007 12:23 PM

Your welcome. I hope the medication works for you.
If you want more info I can call her next week. The long weekend
is upon us and chances are I won't be on the computer.
Just pm me next week and I will get you more info if you want.

She does not have a computer so I can't send you her address.
Hope you feel better. Don't worry to much people live with this
their whole lives. Take care.

Are you talking h.pylori - or which bacteria? Which symptoms matched - the ones for crohns? Crohns can be managed w/ diet, and occ. meds. But try not to fret terribly bc it is treatable, and common - so there are alot of educated docs out there.

sabsab00 10-05-2007 01:03 PM

Sadly I dont remember the name of the bacteria- but i looked up the medicatiosn the doc put me on - and they are the same ones that are used to treat crones - meanwhile the dr never mentioned it to me - a freid of mines mother had it - and when i told him he told me about the diesase and i went on line and researched it - the symptoms i have match the crohns disease.....

One of them, I'm not sure....but the one girl was diagnosed her Freshman year of HS, and she's now a Junior. She was in the hospital for a while when she was diagnosed. Maybe a little over a marking period. I actually visited her in the hospital, and I snuck Baby in to visit her. (I asked the nurse first via phone, and she said normally no, but she'd look the other way. :p ) They put her on steroids and such. She also went back last year to the hospital for a little while, but she's back in school. Poor thing.

stedmansmommy 10-05-2007 02:58 PM

The little girl's brother that my mom used to babysit had it....I certainly hope you don't :( Maybe reading the symptoms of it just got you scared? I know that I too can get that way when I read something - even if I have ONE of the symptoms, I think I have it - lol.

I will say a little prayer for you and please keep us updated! :hands:

heatherjean8737 10-05-2007 03:05 PM

my aunt has it as well as one of my friends. They take medication (not sure what) and they have to watch what they eat. I know my aunt can't have a lot of lettuce and veggie stuff.

margaritaville 10-05-2007 03:20 PM

Crohns and Irritable Bowel Disease have similar symptoms. Try www.ccfa.org
for info

sabsab00 10-05-2007 05:19 PM

So I did some further research and I dont think I have it....the medication im on right now is terrible though....I feel worse now then before I started it! I think I will still be tested for it just for my piece of mind. Thank you all for the information and comforting words....it is GREATLY appreciated. To you all!

My dd went to school with a girl whose Mom had Crohn's. She couldn't eat anything with fiber in it.

You might want to check out the benefits of probiotics. I used to suffer with IBS but find that if I get my digestive enzymes and active cultures (yogurt) every day, I have no symptoms at ALL!

Jenn218 10-06-2007 03:50 PM

There is a new vitamin out now too that is probiotic too. I can't remember the name. I have heard that IBS causing a lot of the same symptoms. Also that antiboitics will get rid of the bacteria overgrowth (which also is said to cause a swollen/bloated tummy). Hugs to you and hope you feel better soon! :justahug: OH, I had numerous people (doctors, etc) tell me that you can't always trust everything you read online (even on some of the best sites)...so please, don't worry yourself sick! :justahug:

Crohns Disease

My son was diagnosed with Crohn's Disease when he was ten, almost eleven years old...

The doctors didn't really know what was wrong at first, the symptoms started out with headaches, stomach pain, being lethargic..

His symptoms escalated before his formal diagnosis as he lost over 20lbs. quickly (he found it difficult to eat without painful cramps)this is when the doctors finally put him under anesthesia and did a colonoscopy. They also scoped him from the top down... that's when they saw the lesions in his upper intestinal tract.

The doctors immediately wanted to put him on steroids which I refused (you can blow up like a sausage!) Luckily, he is able to maintain on a variety of non-steroidal drugs at least for now - without any surgeries.

Sending prayers your way...it's never fun to have any symptoms like these:(

Im really praying and keeping my fingers crossed that it is JUST the bacteria and nothing else. I just wanted to thank you all for the information and kind words. :ghug:

mickey3696 10-17-2007 05:38 PM

I have had Crohn's disease for as long as I can remember and Im 37, when I was 22 they finally found out what it was. I do not take meds. All I do is watch what I eat and eat as healthy as a can. I spent some time watching what made it worse and went from there. Since I learned what to stay away from I do just fine. I do have some times where I get pain in my side but it does pass in a day or two. I hope this helps.

My mother in law has lived with Crohn's Disease for many years. She has had some colon, stomach, and large intestine removed. I know the disease very well.

be careful when you do research like this ...
some people are prescribed Prednisone for asthma and inflammation --
but if you check that med, it is also prescribed for cancers of all sorts, do not jump to conclusions.

Be direct and ASK your doctor what he is treating you for. that is why you go to a doctor.

I hope you feel better!

Yes, I was totally being paranoid.... WebMD is not my friend After doing the research I went to my dr again ( i love her btw) she didnt make me feel crazy at all like my old dr...and she confirmed even though they have similarities I really didnt have any of the symtoms - and then I found out that my uncle has the same bacteria and its heriditary...I calmed down.
