Who else loves.... POPCORN Balls?? It is that time of year again and I just cannot stop eating these....I love them! I wish I could get these year round... |
We always made the kind with marshmellows. I know there are a couple recipes out there, some use corn syrup. Popcorn is my absolute favorite food. I'll eat it every day if I can :) |
Oooh, the ones with marshallows are easy and good! I also like the ones made with jello and corn syrup. |
I boil sugar and water till thick, but you have to be careful not to burn your hands when making them. Also don't pack them tight. Yep, lots of fun to make and oh so good to eat. Yummers!!;) |
Popcorn Balls........mom used to make them every year for Halloween. What a treat. I forgot about Popcorn Balls, thanks. |
I absolutely love them! I can't eat them this year though. I have gestational diabetes while I'm pregnant. So I will have to wait until next year. |

You know, I even had my own gourmet cookie and candy business, but never used splenda in my candies. Does it caramelize like regular sugar does? |
I just love popcorn balls!!!...As a kid on Halloween I would go to a house twice so I could get two!!!...Then I would trade the other kids for theirs, I would end up with quite a few.... I had one one year that seemed to be made with sugar instead of corn syrup, the popcorn ball had a crystallized look and feel to it, I haven't had one of those in years, I would like to duplicate it though if I knew for sure how it was done!..... I have never had one made with marshmallows, are they sticky and do they firm up? |

I would not use Splenda or any artificial sweetner if you are pregnant. It can have bad effects on the baby. |

Yes, they usually do. You take a bag of mini marshmallows and a cube of butter and melt them in a pan on the stove. Then pour over popped corn and mix up. Make balls. At least that's how I remember. I haven't made them for quite some time. Correct me someone if I am wrong. I think you might add vanilla, too, but not sure. |
Wow! I had not known you could make these in your own kitchen..I was just super excited about them being available in the store this time of year...knowing what I know now from reading this thread, this could be a year round treat....:D I just love the individual wrappers and woohoo popcorn ball inside. |
Yeah if anyone has a recipe, please share...... |
Here's a link to the marshmallow popcorn balls, very easy!! http://allrecipes.com/Recipe/Marshma...ls/Detail.aspx |
Jello Popcorn Balls - Yummy! JELLO POPCORN BALLS 1 c. light corn syrup 3/4 c. sugar Boil together. Add 1 (3 oz.) box Jello. Stir until dissolved. Remove from heat, cool slightly. Add 2 1/2 quarts popcorn. Grease hands, shape into balls. Makes about 1 dozen You can make them whatever flavor you want depending on what flavor Jello you put in. |
And here's a marshmallow jello popcorn ball. I have never tried these, but they look interesting. JELLO POPCORN BALLS 1 stick butter 1 lb. marshmallows 1 (3 oz.) pkg. orange or peach Jello 3 batches popped popcorn in lg. bowl Melt butter, add marshmallows, stir until melted. Add Jello and stir until dissolved. Pour over popcorn - wait a bit then stir until all popcorn is covered. Form in balls and store individually in baggies. Moisten hands with cold water to keep from sticking to hands. |

At Christmas time it is fun to make it in the shape of a large Christmas tree and put gumdrops on for ornaments and give to neighbors or friends as gifts. |

Well, this is my 6th baby. I have diabetes while pregnant (gestational). Artificial sweetner in moderation is fine. Everyone needs a treat now and then! |

I am glad you didn't have any problems with it. I tend to be overly cautiouis. When is your baby due?? Do you know what you are having? |

I'm only 7 weeks along now, so we won't know for about another 2 to 3 months what we're having. I'm due May 18th. I was also overly cautious with my first pregnancies. I think we all are! If I could have real sugar, then it wouldn't be an issue. But when you're diabetic, you can't take everything away. Splenda is the best artificial sweetener to use because it is actually made from sugar. Plus, if you look at the more recent research, they can't prove that artificial sweetener has any effect on a fetus. So I just use it in moderation. Anyway, I don't know of a low fat way to make the popcorn balls. If you used fat free jello? |
My mom makes me special popcorn wreaths with green food coloring and little red hots in them so it looks like holly. And they are so yummy! |
Thanks for the recipes....I have had popcorn balls, but I have never made them...I my just need to do that! |
