Apple Recipes My boyfriend and I went apple picking this weekend, and we picked more apples than I know what to do with! Does anyone have good recipes for using apples? |
Well, there's always apple pie! :) One of my favorite low fat recipes is to peel and slice an apple (or two or three) and put it in a microwave bowl. Microwave it till soft (I'm not sure how long, just do a couple of minutes, check, repeat, and so on, till done) Then I add splenda or sugar till sweet enough and maybe a bit of cinammon. You can also add butter, but then there goes the low fat! My absolute favorite is apple dumpling, but I don't have a recipe, I'd eat too much if I ever made it!!! |
Peel and core some apples, (careful not to put a hole all the way thru the apple)coat the outside with butter, then put butter & brown sugar inside and sprinkle the outside with cinnamon-sugar and wrap up in foil and bake at 350 degree for about 30 to 40 minutes. These are always a hit when you have company over for a chicken dinner. ;) |
mmm thanks!! These sound great! I'm making a pie today for dessert, I made an apple cake and that is the extent of my apple recipes haha! Thanks again I'm going to make both of these! |
I have another apple pie recipie if you want it. You may be applie pied out by now. LOL How about carmel apples? |
Do you know how to can? Because if you do, I have an Apple Pie Filling that gets canned and you will have filling to make pies all year long. Or you can make applesauce with your apples or apple butter. I have recipes for all, let me know if you want any. |

http://www.elise.com/recipes/archive...dorf_salad.php Okay I was searching for my recipe at home and could not come across it so I found this one online...I love waldorf salad..I do not use the lettuce, I just put it in a bowl and go to town!!! |
You are lucky to be apple to get good apples. I think that late freeze we had this spring messed up a lot of crops here. I soooo want to have a small orchard for just me....part of our land was once an apple orchard many, many, many years ago...found that out doing some research! I love apples.....Here are some family recipes (enjoy) Apple Crisp 6 apples, peeled and sliced 1 cup brown sugar ½ cup oatmeal ½ cup flour ½ cup butter, softened 1 tsp. cinnamon or nutmeg (or a mix of both) ¼ cup water Pre-heat oven to 350. Arrange apples in well greased baking dish. Blend all remaining ingredients, but water. Spread evenly over top of apples. Pour water over topping. Bake 45 minutes until apples are tender and top is crisp. Can use peaches instead of apples. Fresh Apple Cake Mix together: 4 cups diced apples & 2 cups sugar. Then add: ½ cup oil, 1 cup nuts, 2 well beaten eggs & 2 tsp. vanilla. Set aside. In separate bowl, mix together: 2 cup flour, 2 tsp soda, 2 tsp. cinnamon, 1 tsp. salt. Add to other mixture. Pour into 13x9 pan. Bake at 350 for 1 hour. Apple Salad 1 cup sugar 2TB flour 1TB butter 1 cup boiling water 3TB vinegar 1 egg yolk (beaten) ¼ tsp. salt ½ tsp. lemon juice Add vinegar, butter & lemon to boiling water. Mix flour and sugar, add just enough water to make paste. Add egg yolk. Stir into boiling water, cook until thick. Let mixture cool and then add chopped apples and chopped nuts. Refrigerate. |
I also love to have a basket of fresh washed apples on the counter. I eat them all the time. Cut some up and eat with a cheese stick or with vanilla yogurt or cute them up and mix with cinnamon, brown sugar and some butter and bake in the oven (yum). You can also "fry" them....in a skillet, but I can't remember how that is done. Fried apple pies are good too! Yum! I have also (in the past when I had a bunch), wash, cut and peel a lot of them and froze them in bags to use later....for apple crisp, apple pie, baked apples, etc. They are still good that way too and you don't have to worry about getting tired of eating apples everyday (which we eat an apple a day, we are weird) or worrying about letting any of them ruin! |
Jenn218 - Thanks for the great recipes!! I love apples too and we've been eating them fresh and I gave some to some family and friends, but we went a little crazy - they give you bushels and we just kept picking and I don't want them to go bad, but they are so fresh they usually last pretty long! You guys are all great! I really appreciate all of the recipes :) |
You are welcome!! Those recipes are tried and true...I love them and hope you will to. We haven't had bushels in awhile.....I can't wait for more apples though. My husband started liking Gala apples because he thinks they are a mix of an apple and pear.....he likes the taste of those. Halloween is coming up,so that means apple slices and caramel, caramel apples and apple dumplings....oh, I think I have my grandmothers recipe for apple dumplings...I know I do because I made that last Halloween for our chili supper....I will look and see if I can find it. |
These are from my grandmothers collection....she never uses a recipe anymore, just this and that, so I hope they make sense! Fried Apples Wash apples, leave peel and core and slice. Fry in butter in big skillet. Add a pinch of salt and cinnamon. Apple Upside Down Cake Have a layer of fried apples in skillet. Mix1 cup sugar and 1 stick butter together, add 1 egg and 2/3 cup milk (more or less if needed). Sift 1 ½ cup all purpose flour, 1 tsp. baking powder, ¼ tsp. salt together and add to flour mixture. Beat well and pour over top of fried apples. Cook at 375 about 45min or until done. Turn cake out onto a large plate. Fried Apple Pies 1 qt. canned apples OR fresh cooked apples (cooled) Drain most of juice from apples. Put into a large bowl and add 1 cup sugar and ½ cup brown sugar, 2 TB flour, 1tsp cinnamon and 1/4tsp. allspice. Dough: 1 cup self rising flour, 1 cup all purpose flour (or 2 cups all purpose flour and ½ tsp baking powder and 1/4tsp salt). 3TB sugar, 2 TB shortening. Mix together like pie dough. Then add 1 beaten egg and enough milk to make a dough that is easy to handle and roll out. Divide into pieces the size wanted for pies. On a well floured pastry sheet, role dough out into a small circle, put apples and a dab of butter on one side of circle of dough. Turn the other side of dough over and seal tight around edges of pie. Have shortening in a big hot skillet. Turn the heat on Med. to prevent burning (adjust heat as needed). Cook 2 pies at one time. brown on one side turn and brown the other side. When dough is done, place pies on a paper towel to drain and cool. Apple Dumplings Peel, core and quarter 8 apples Dough: 2 cups all purpose flour ½ cup shortening 2 tsp baking powder ½ cup milk Mix like pie dough, divide into 8 parts. Put on floured pastry sheet. Put apples into center of dough. Fold dough upward around apples and place folded side down on a oiled cake pan. Syrup: 2 cups granulated sugar ½ tsp. cinnamon 2 cups water ½ cup butter Boil together for 5 minutes. If mixture starts to boil over slightly turn down heat. Pour over dumplings and bake at 350 for about 25min then spoon syrup over dumplings and cook 20 minutes longer or until apples are soft and dough is golden brown. You may also add thinly sliced apples in the pan with syrup for more apples and flavor. Note: I put a small amount of the sugar and cinnamon and a dot of butter on apples before I fold the dumplings over. Serve hot with whipped cream or vanilla ice cream This one below is from some apple orchard, can't remember which one, so I don't know who the credit goes to. Apple Chips 2TB lemon juice 1 sweet crisp apple 2 tsp confectioners sugar heat oven to 200. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper and set aside. Fill a med bowl with ice water and lemon juice and set aside. Slice the apple into very thin slices and let soak in the water bath for 5 minutes. Place apple slices on prepared baking sheet, sprinkle with sugar, and bake until crisp and dry - about 90 minutes. Cool and serve. |
I did the same thing I took my godson for the hayride at the apple farm, but to get the hayride you need to pick apples. On the weekend the smallest size they have is a peck! I am ONE person! hahaha so I have a TON of apples. This is a yummy thing I did with them. I cored an apple and cut it in slices (did not peel it) then I put boneless pork chops in a baking pan with a shallow layer of water at the bottom, layered the apple slices on top of the pork chops, sprinkled with cinnamon, covered the pan in tinfoil with a couple steam holes poked into it and baked them for about 40 mins at 350. Its like porkchops and homemade warm apple sauce bc the apples get so soft! Its very yummy!! :D :D |
Man! I don't have any apples, but I'm going to have to run to the store to get some, so I have an opportunity to use all these great recipes! What a wonderful thread! Thanks everyone (and I'm not even the OP)!!! :D :D |
Awesome recipes - I can't thank you all enough - I'm gonna gain 5 pounds eating all of the things I'm making  |
