| Topomax Anyone use this? Serious risks associated with TOPAMAX include lowered bicarbonate levels in the blood resulting in an increase in the acidity of the blood (metabolic acidosis). Symptoms could include hyperventilation (rapid, deep breathing), tiredness, loss of appetite, irregular heartbeat or changes in the level of alertness. Call your doctor immediately if you get these symptoms. Your doctor may want to do simple blood tests. Chronic, untreated metabolic acidosis may increase the risk for kidney stones or bone disease. Other serious risks include decreased sweating, increased body temperature, kidney stones, sleepiness, dizziness, confusion, difficulty concentrating, and increased eye pressure (glaucoma). Call your doctor immediately if you have any decrease in vision or eye pain. These problems can lead to blindness if not treated right away. More common side effects are tingling in arms and legs, loss of appetite, tiredness, nausea, diarrhea, taste change and weight loss. Tell your doctor about other medications you take. Please see enclosed full U.S. prescribing information. Click here for full U.S. Prescribing Information.

| Hey girl! It's a really common drug... You're likely to experience some of the common side effects (nausea, tingling fingertips/toes, loss of appetite, headache, etc.) within the first little while while your body is adjusting to the new drug. The serious side effects are very rare & usually only happen when you're on another drug that reacts w/ the Topomax, but if your Dr knows all the drugs you take (and your family history) he will not prescribe a drug that reacts negatively. Good luck

| My daughter was on it for about 9 months. She lost a lot of weight because she didn't want to eat much (things didn't taste good, especially sweets, and after a few bites of anything she felt full). It did help her headaches. But eventually she got kidney stones (very painful) was hospitalized and had surgery to remove them. She had the tingling, too at first. Quote:

| I take this for migraines. The most common side effects that bother people the most are the tingling in the fingertips and tongue, problems concentrating and with memory, and a decrease in language skills (forgetting words). For most people, these are typically short term effects and go away after awhile. However, the problem with concentration and decrease in language skills did not go away for me. I dealt with the problem by changing when I took the medicine. I now take 25mg in the morning and 75mg at night. That made a big difference for me. I still notice a small decrease in my language skills but not enough to stop taking it.
