how non pracitical it was of me to do a mermaid theme for my baby room! lol

Of couse nobody sells cutesy girly aquatic baby decor so my mother and I are having to make everything ourselves and now that Im actually shopping for baby furniture I wish so badly I had just done something like butterflies or a pink and chocolate color scheme becasue I have seen so many cute things for this type of set up!
Im so bummed out when I see all the cute stuff that I cant have becuase it wont match my room. Oh well- I just pullled a Shana! :D :D This is sooooooo something typical I would do :rolleyes: Grass is always greener on the other side :rolleyes:
Okay everyone learn from my mistake, do not pick a really random theme for a baby roolm that doesnt even exist on the shelf of any department store or if you do you will have your work cut out for you!

Well, let's put a positive spin on it and say the "pulling a Shana" means your precious baby girl will have a very unique room unlike anyone else!!!!!! And, you are so talented that its gonna be fabulous!!!!

Shana you could get one of these nets and use it to hang on the wall or in a corner and you could use it to store all her plush toys

You could also go to the thrift store or dollar store buy a cheap lamp and go to walmart or a craft store and buy some sea shells and sand then you glue the sand to the base of the lamp and glue on seashells and sea horses and glue on star fish and shells on the lamp shade.. You could do the same to a garbage can or diaper bucket which would add to your theme.. You can also buy plate covers for the outlets and light switch and glue the sand on them as well.

You are so creative, I know you will pull it off and create the perfect room! :D Another upside is that it will be an easy room to transition from a baby's room to a little girl's room. :thumbup:

And you'll know that you are responsible when she becomes a famous marine biologist. :)

Im using all sorts of colors and Im a little worried my baby room is going to look clownish :( I painted the walls an aqua blue green color. My mom is making my entire bedding set and curtains using this mermaid fabric i bought (pictured belwo) and a then polka dot fabrics that are pale yellow & bubble gum pink with a little bit of green and orange accent colors. The quilt also has pale aqua color in it.

Sorry Hon I thought about it when you showed us the original pic of the mermaid but I thought maybe you had gotten accessories already. Being as your a crack seamstress there I thought you were going to make all the stuff yourself and then go a neutral or accent color as far as the lamp, etc.

The web really rocks when you need to find stuff. Take a shot at EBAY...there are so many retailers/suppliers on there so you might find some more stuff.

Target does have really cute items, I finally got to check it out last week and Im going to register for some of the items although Im thinkign about going ahead and running up there and buying them myself right now, Im getting so anzy and excited, lol. I love the little sea creature blanket and crib sheet set!

I like all your ideas, you are so creatrive! I would never have thought of putting sand on a light switch!

I did buy some fish nets. I actually purchased a simplicity nursery pattern that has a canopy(I think that is what it is called, cant think of the right term right now) that goes over the crib and instead of using sheer netting I think Im going to drape a fish net over it. At least thats what Im thinking, Im not sure if its practical yet. I also want to do a fish net somehwere else in the room with shells. Ive already got a bunch of shells that Ive personally collected form several different vacations and I also went to hobby lobby and bought some pretty star fish to put in the net.

instead of the flowers that are on there holding the bumper pads up we are using little fish and crabs :p

Just think how much fun you will have when you decide to change it all. My daughter loves to do her girls' rooms and she changes them all the time! One is 11 and one is 10 months!

Thanks, I drew it looking at the mermaids on my fabric so it matches it exactly. I used real sand texture on the bottom of the painting and I also used some other products that added a lot of texture to the painting that you really cant see from the picture. I will also be stringing real pearls as a necklace on the mermaid to give it a fun 3-d look.

I love those star fish pillows! I think I want to try and make my own that look like that with that really soft minky dot fabric, I just think it would be so yummy soft! and I can get colors to really match my room. Thanks for all the links

We are making stuff and my mother and I are making 98% of the decor its just so funny because now that Im actually shopping for baby furniture and Im seeing all the cute decor that the stores sell I really love them and think they are so cute and they would be soooo much easier and to be honest most of it is way cheaper than making our own stuff. So Im a little bummed. Ive probobly spent $150+ on fabric just for bedding and my poor mom who is a professional quilter is making the whole bedroom set but I keep telling myself at least it will be unique.
