i appreciate your honesty. I want to say that I was not trying to copy anyone. I didn't like tying the blankets the way I was tying the, I was afraid they would come apart easily. So I set out to find a new knot, saw several on yt and other places, and contacted someone that made them asking if they could help me learn to make a better knot. that person was kimmie and she didn't appreciate it. now...rather than telling me that upfront so that I could have had my eyes opened to the "unfairness" of using the same knot, I went and learned it on my own. now...I was not trying to copy anyone, I was trying to find a better knot. and if i find one that I like better than these, I will use that one instead. I do not want to be like others...which is why I am offering the monograming/embroidering. I am trying to find something different to sell here. I would love for people to see my blankets...or whatever else I might sell..and say "hey...did you get that from Mandee?" had I not contacted kimmie asking for help, I could have googled "no sew blanket instructions" and came up with that same knot. I am not trying to copy one specific persons design...I was looking for blankets that I thought would hold up better than mine...and I went with it. I did not buy one of her blankets and copy it. I could have achieved the same exact thing by going to my church where they are making these blankets to send to foreign countries and asking them how to make them. would that have been wrong??? I appreciate your honesty and understand where you were coming from. but i don't see how i am trying to copy anyone...i am just trying to make a well made blanket. |
Well said Amber! I agree with you 100%. It's a big pain in the @** when people copy your things. It was flattery when we were children, but when you're an adult selling a product that you've took your time in creating, it's called taking someone elses idea. It's different if you improve on that idea, but if you just use it, well then that really says a lot about a person like that. I had more or less the same thing happen to me as you Amber. When I first started making my blankets I made beds as well... then wouldn't you know it but not shortly after, another person started making the same thing.. different dimentions and using a different filling, but ultimately the same idea. I didn't mind though because the seller had improved hers and that in turn inspired me to improve upon my own product. I agree, this should be closed because it gets dirty. We're mostly women here and we all have tempers and opinion and we're not afraid to use them... and that just can't be good. lol |
I would agree if it was a complete copy of a dress, or even a bed....things that there are endless variations possible for. There are some vendors (like chloeandj, for instance) who have a VERY distinct look that they offer, and they work very hard every season at finding new material and creating new styles. It would totally suck, and be WRONG, if someone just copied their fabrics and patterns. But come on, can we be realistic?! The fleece blankets, while fun, and wonderful, and perfect for our puppies....are a VERY basic and generic pattern! They're EVERYWHERE. And fleece is only available in a (relatively) limited variety of prints. I don't know either poster, and have never bought from either. But the issue seems rather ridiculous. |
Sorry someone was upset with you. Its everyones right to sell what they want to. I'm sure you didnt mean anything by it. We have a ton of vendors who sell the same type of stuff on here. That's like being McDonalds and being mad at Burger King for selling fries. lol I guess what I'm trying to say, no one on here should have given you a hard time and I'm sorry they did. Those overhand knots are no surprise. I know we do them when we make ours at home. You didnt steal no ones idea. Come on guys.....being a vendor you have to realize that something you make or sell might be sold by another vendor too. That's how we get competive pricing. Good Luck! |
 I agree..I searched and found many articles on no sew fleece and alot were tied like that,it isn't like Kimmie came up with this not,I'm sorry petty if you ask me! I wonder if this lady is upset and others as well,of no wait the lady at walmart told her how to tie the knot. Check for yourself. http://anewchelseamorning.blogspot.c...n-do-this.html Quote:

after reading through all of this....i agree that you should still sell them, but i don't think you should have ask her how to make them unless you were being upfront with her that you were asking so you could sell them too. just my opinion. I like you both! |

like i said before, i was not trying to step on her toes. i didn't realize that was the case until just the other day. |
She didn't really ask her how to make them just how to tie the knot she was tying. Let's be realistic here and state the obvious someone has to learn from someone. I think you guys should just let it go. Keep making your blankets because it brings you enjoyment and a bit of a profit. I have purchased harnesses from Connie since I found this site. I asked her how to cut the harnesses for Lulu because I wanted to try my hand at designing some cute ones for her myself when I had some downtime. Connie rocked because she never saw it as me trying to be underhanded. With a special order dress that I asked for she not only cut a pattern for me to use specific to my baby, she sent me how to instructions and ten D-Rings. I think that there is enough room for everyone to play with these things and not really step on anyone's toes. I feel bad that one or more parties seem to feel slighted and I sincerely hope that you all can let bygones be bygones and just move on and enjoy your craft. I also didn't see anything wrong with her pming a few people that she might have conversed with and gotten to know and telling them that she was starting out this venture and if they were interested they could go to her site and check out her wares. Anyhow I wish you all the best and hope that you guys can squash the problem and just enjoy your crafting. |
How do you tie your shoes??? Bunny ears? Or one loop, over, under and pull? TWO KNOTS.... SAME BASIC RESULT! Its a tie blanket guys! Its not rocket science! (No offence) I make them too. But if anyone really thinks that they have exclusive rights to certian patterns, woah! Unless you want to design and license you own prints??? Well, good luck... for now you'll just have to share with the Billions of other shoppers who buy Fabrics at Joanns, Hancocks, and Wallmarts all over the country. Sorry. I don't mean to be curt, but seriously? ....Seriously. You are not in the wrong in any way! I asked a blanket maker if they would give me measurements and tell me how to make tie blankets... I needed everything! How much fabric to buy, how to cut it, how big to cut the strips! The whole deal! She all but came to my home and made them for me! ;) In this business getting catty with other vendors is not a good idea... Make friends, you never know when you'll need them. Other vendors and I help eachother out all the time! Its awesome! We work together! We all can use more friends, personally I'll never have enough of them!!! :) |

I am not comfortable with her expressions of "Hon", "babez" and such ... This is the message that was sent: *************** stop by and check out my new thread & show your support babez !! :D :D http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/showthread.php?t=93263 <3 Kimmie I have asked her to stop sending me such things via PMs ... So if Pepe Mint asked her about the knot and obviously Mz_s3ski_Kitt3n did not respond and Pepe Mint went to a different website or store for advice ... where is the problem? As previously said, competition is healthy. I do not think Pepe Mint posted this to get orders .... And we all still have FREE CHOICE!! |
I personally wouldnt get offended by it... I mean, not everyone's ideas are completely ORIGINAL... and just because something is similar doesnt mean you intentionally copied it... Not to mention, its the quality that matters... |

Someone mentioned they made blankets on dog beds and then someone else made beds with their blankets. That is how it works, all the person that feels out done has to do is come up with a better idea and product. I don't sell on here but I would ditto Kathryn's advise and build friendships and in the long run you will be way ahead. |

I don't want to hurt ANYONES feelings here - and I am by NO MEANS trying to "take sides" here AT ALL. But I do just want to say this - when someone PM's you and asks you how you make something (or whatever the case may be) - you DO have the option of not responding, or either just simply telling them in a nice way that you've worked very hard at trying to make your products a little "different" and that your sorry, but you just can't share that information. Know what I mean?? You don't have to be MEAN about it, but you can just simply tell them sorry - I won't be able to share that with you. Because when you DO give out this information, you take the risk of someone making products that are very similar to yours. Again, I AM NOT taking any sides here, or saying that this person is wrong, or that person is wrong - it is just something that I thought I would point out and mention. And P.S. - I do want to add in, that I agree 100% with what Gingergirlsmom said about posting the screen names and e-mails publicly. That is a personal privacy issue and said members might not appreciate having that plastered all over the internet for everyone to see. I hope you guys get this resolved soon, and I wish BOTH OF YOU the best of luck in your business! :) |
