The same things are sold all over the internet, you find the same beds, toys, clothes and blankets on heaps of different websites. Don't sweat it, how many different ways are there to make a blankie? |
I think it is real sweet that you are apologizing. But totally unnecessary. As someone else pointed out, there are tons of online stores and websites that sell the same products. You are bound to have similar fabrics and products as there are only so many out there. So don't worry about it, you have done nothing wrong!! |
I will agree with nearly everyone that has posted already and say that I think it was unnecessary for you to apologize. It's not like it's a TRADE SECRET on how to make blankets, for heaven's sake. People just need to chill out! This is the kind of thing about YT that upsets me is the stuff we don't see...that's ridiculous that anyone should tell you what you can or cannot do. You are a human, and unless it's patented, that's your decision if you want to do it or not. I wish you all the best on your blankets and other doggy things :) |

Thanks for your post...I hope this gets moved to the "right" place so nobody gets upset....I just had NO idea where the "right" place was..... |
Hey Pepe Mint, You have every right to make the blankets. This is America! We encourage that kind of thing! Another thing you can do is rent a booth at a local craft fair. There are a LOT of pet owners that would love a blanket. And it's a great way to meet people! I love doing craft fairs. I even have a tent that I use if the fair is held outside. It's a blast and it brings in extra money. (But I really like meeting new people and developing relationships with vendors I see at other craft fairs.) You still run into people who are selling the same thing as you and they are soooo petty! But then there are those who sell the same thing and you end up offering up ideas to help each other's business. Those are the ones I really enjoy being with! Good luck in your endeavors! Brenda |
I understand why you are posting this, and it's true that it is not necessary, but you needed to do it because you want to make sure nobody thinks you're trying to step on someone's shoes. That shows that you are a nice person. If I were you, I would try to think of something that can make you unique, I don't know, maybe adding certain product or adding something on your blankies that nobody else is offering. Many people here offer blankets, but if you come with something unique, even if it's small but something that you though about, nobody can say anything about that, because you are different. You can still offer the regular blankies, but also offer something that identifies you. Just a thought :) |
You go girl... |

I don't think you have anything to apologize for. We all pretty much buy our fabric at Joann's. There are only so many different styles out there, and especially the fleece is rather limited. This is a free country and anyone is entitled to go into business. Even if you are offering a similar product as other people, no two products from each company are alike. Every handcrafted item bears the "marks" of its crafter, and those subtleties are what stands out in a product. Those who like the "marks" of one crafter may not like the "marks" of the other. It's all good, and anyone who does great work will find that they will continue to attract a regular clientele and has nothing to worry about from other crafters in the "pool." fwiw, my :twocents:, jmho, and all that... |
if you want to make the knotted blankets, go ahead. Unless the person has a patent or something, you have just as much right to make them as she*/he does. K-mart doesn't ask walmart if they can sell like or similar items. It's business. |
Keep your head up and do what makes you happy:thumbup: . BTW, I checked out your site and loved it. It was very easy to navigate:thumbup:  |
you do not have to say you are sorry. my goodness.....so many people make the same things. that is aweful that someone has felt you have stepped on their toes. believe me, i see so many things that are identical to other peoples. this is business!!!!! my neice, a friends daughter, my breeder, and an old co-worker of mine does the same thing. believe me, what you are doing, a thousand of other people are doing the same thing. good luck to you and your small business that you have taken lots of time to produce. |

You have every right to sell your product. As long as there are no patents on the product you are making, then you can continue to sell. No need to apologize. Hence the world we live is made up of competition...that's what drives the economy. I personally make those blankets as well...don't sell them tough...only make them for family. I think they are adorable blankets and I wish you well in your sales. :) Although, remember there will always be naysayers and those upset with your competition...it comes with the business. Just stand by your product and you will do great! |
Goodness, whoever got offended.......'Too bad too sad'! :thumbdown I do most of my shopping here on YT and yes, I do look for the best sales/customer service!! You have every right to sell your blankets just like the next person. If the other person doesn't agree with it or is too jealous......oh well! Sorry to be so blunt, but I can't sugar coat my feelings :p Oh, and yes, I'm heading to your site now. My babies need new blankies  |
I don't think you should give this another thought. Look at all the postive posts you've received. You have just as much right to do business as she does. Look at all the clothing that sells, many have the same styles and same material. We all like to have choices...so keep up the good work. I do know that if I knew who this person was...I wouldn't be purchasing from someone like that. I do hope to place an order with you before your sale is over. |
I want to add this: Several people have pm'd me asking who I am referring to. I want to let everyone know that I am not going to give her name out. I am not trying to bring her down or make her look bad...I just wanted to post this apology and if others thought I was doing something wrong, I figured that you would all tell me. I have not had that response at all, so I will keep doing what I am doing. but I just didn't want anyone to think I was trying to "bash" this person...therefore I will not be giving out her name. Thanks for understanding.... |
my 2 cents there are a lot of YT'ers that all sell the same or similar items on here. I don't think you should worry about stepping on anyones toes. I am ALWAYS thrilled to see others offering items for sale. There is plenty to go around and there is no need for anyone to get all bent out of shape over it. I try to encourage others to create and offer things for sale. I look at it as "the more the merrier" and i love seeing other people succeed in business!! I think we should all be happy and encourage others to do what they like and are passionate about. There is a LOT of competition out there for doggie items and there always will be so just do what you like, enjoy it and offer good customer service. There are plenty of customers to go around for EVERYONE!! There is just so much fabric and fleece available so there is bound to be duplicates. I hope you will hold your head up and continue with your passion. Competition is a good thing...keeps the prices good and also the quality up. Never look at that as a problem. It is the American way!! HUGS! XOXOX Linda & PAK |
i agree. and i REALLY want one of those dresses that is in your avatar ;) Quote:

Pepe Mint, you are already offering something that makes your blankets unique, and that is your personalized embroidery. I would respectfully suggest that the 'offended seller' also do something to make HER product unique. Then she wouldn't have to worry that someone else was selling something identical to hers. Also if she is worried that her ideas will be stolen, she should patent it. Just my suggestion to her so that she will not be upset with others selling blankets. That is really sweet that you are offerning a discount to YT'ers. If I needed a blanket I would definitely order one of yours...they are beautiful! |
i know what you mean. but i would think it would be a lot of work to patent a knot...sooooooooooooooooooooo many people use the same knot for these blankets. hmmm... Quote:

I understand, there are quite a few ppl who makes those. I wouldn't stop making them, just because others do. Its like a shampoo brand, there are many different brands and others arn't going to stop selling there product because of another company!!! |
There are a lot of creative people on Yt so there are bound to be lots of similar items for sale. I'm sure there's enough business to go 'round. I shop on YT and am always looking for things for my babies. If items are similar, I start looking at quality and price. It doesn't sound to me like you've done anything wrong. Your post was very thoughtful. |
I sure am glad you decided to post this, as I need a new blanket! You must be a super sweetheart for apologizing for something so silly, you are doing something you love and allowing me to do something I love, spoil my yorkie! |
I don't think you have to apologize, but it's really sweet of you that you do. Today so many people are out for the buck, but you apologizing shows your truly doing what your doing because you like doing it. I also agree with the patent comment, you can't claim it's yours unless you have a patent, and I learned that just by being a marketing student! There's a lot of people on here who sell similar items, and as a consumer I like to have different choices :) |
Awww girl, I am so sorry to hear that this happened to you :( I didn't read through any of the other replies, but IMO - no one can stop you from making them, so WHY STOP? :) I've been to your web site before and I think it looks GREAT! I also love the products that I have seen so far. In fact, I will probably be placing an order before too long :p :D Bottom line is, LOTS of people make blankets, clothes, etc. - and there is always going to be competition...but that's called being in business. That is why it is always good to try and make THE BEST product you can possibly offer - and try to do something with your products that sets them apart from all the others. Also, alot of members here buy their fabrics from the same places, Jo Ann's, Hancock, Wal-Mart, etc. - these places carry alot of the same fabrics. EVENTUALLY - it IS going to happen where members end up purchasing the same fabrics. I mean I honestly do not think it can be helped. Alot of people are picking from the same selection - it's no ones fault. I think the only way around it is to start buying fabrics online, ones that maybe aren't as widely available in stores such as Jo Ann's, etc. Anyway girl - sorry to ramble. I just wanted to give my opinion and show my support for you :) I think you are doing a fabulous job and I would keep doing it! Don't let anyone here (or anywhere else for that matter) bring you down :) Keep doing what you love! |
