LOOK what I found in the back of my truck... Well, You have to wait until tomorrow (Wed.) to LOOK but it is a kitten!! MAYBE 2 days old!! it still has it's umbilical stump and everything. In fact, it looked like it had some fresh blood on it when I first found it and now it is just a black speck like it should be. I have NO idea where it came from. I got home from gymnastics and heard this noise in the truck (the truck was at home in the driveway all day) and there it was, under one of our signs. it is SOOOOOOOO tiny and fragile. It is solid white, pink nose and feet. eyes are shut, ears aren't even open all the way. I have done this before, taken in newborn kittens and nursed them until they were big enough to be "pets" and ended up keeping them. they were GREAT cats!! but I have 3 dogs. how in the world am I going to do this? Hubby is not a cat person either. so I really don't think he will be letting us keep this one. Anyone want a kitten?? :) I am going into the vet in the morning to see what they think I should do. he/she is eating really well. I got some kitten formula and a bottle and the little monster is just gobbling it up!! it's funny to sit and watch it's little belly grow and grow. and then I get the oh so fun job of wiping it's tinkler to make it go potty. and the tush to make it go pooooo. yuck. one wrong move and the thing gets stimulated and then you are wearing it all over you LOL surprisingly, our 11 year old min pin has really taken to the kitten. I have never seen this side of him. He is super protective over her, cleans her all the time (yes, I am calling it a "her" because it's easy LOL) i'm just shocked at how Rex is acting. He is really nurturing the kitten. I think if he had the equipment, he would be feeding her too LOL I will take a pic first thing in the morning. the little tike is really ADORABLE!!!!!!!!! |
aren't you just an angel. I can't wait for pictures and i hope it checks out with the vet ok. Poor little baby! |
Awww how sweet!! I bet she is a keeper hehe.. |
If theres a baby theres a momma cat, she may have been in the middle of moving her babys out of the sun or some thing and hid the one in the truck. shes prob been back looking for the little one. theres prob others out side. I hope the little one does good. |

Awww good luck with the lil' one. I've never raised a newborn kitty before, but I have raised a newborn puppy. I understand what you mean about the slightest thing stimulating them and them going potty. lol I let the puppy I raised sleep nestled in my hair because she felt safer and warmer there. I don't advise that. :p |

so far, it is going good. kitty made it through the night. she is still eating good, as far as I can tell :) At first, I was having to really squeeze the bottle to get anything to come out. I followed the instructions on poking a hole in the top of the nipple but that didn't work so good. so after my hands started to hurt, I decided to cut a tiny X in the top of the nipple. I still have to squeeze a little to get it out but once she realized what is there, she does it on her own. It's much easier. It is hard for me to tell how much she is drinking. I am putting .2 oz in the bottle and it barely seems to go down. But I can tell she is eating. she sucks and sucks and sucks until she falls asleep. then I wake her up and make her eat more. I keep this up until she refuses the nipple then I rub her really good (I read somewhere to "burp" the kitten?????) and she usually will fall asleep while I am rubbing on her. then I put her back in her bed, where she has a nice soft blanky and a warm water bottle wrapped in a receiving blanket to help keep her warm. she seems ok with this routine. when I hold her, she tries to get right up to my neck. I just know I am going to get attached :( not sure if you can tell in this first pic, but she eats with her arms straight up in the air LOL on the one side of the bottle, you can barely see her little paw sticking up ;) I will try and get better pics today. Here are a couple of her in the box we originally kept her in, before finding a nice basket for her. And you can see Rex, our min pin, who is super protective of her. I've never seen him like this before...he doesn't even like me to touch her. he will totally check her out the whole time I am holding her. licking her and sniffing her to make sure everything is where it should be LOL at first I was nervous but he is sooooo good with her. I remember he was like that with maggie when we first brought her home too! |
How tiny! The protectiveness must be a min-pin thing. The minpin my DIL had did the same thing when my son rescued a kitten. She thought she was the Mommy and even tried to nurse the kitten. She kept kind of scratching and pulling it under her:) Good luck with Lil Bit! |
cute little tiny critter!! |
