Before you try sleeping pills, get yourself some Melatonin. It is available where supplements are sold. You don't want any more than 3 mg. If you take one an hour before bedtime, you will see the difference within a couple of days. |

I have had sleeping problems ever since I can remember going to school...maybe the 4th grade. Some times I see some of you stop posting at nite and I'm still here when you start again in the morning ....:coffee_n_ Then all day I feel like a zombie and want to sleep all day like my doggies, but at nite I'm up on the computer and happy reading, writing, watching TV, watching the furkids sleeping. But I know it's wrong and I want to switch my awake hours to days...lol |

Please be very careful with ambien. It is highly addictive and only approved for short term use. Most doctors will not prescribe more than 7 - 10 days worth. Also, never never drink alcohol with ambien because it can induce coma or death. Sonata is at lower risk for becoming habit forming but is still meant for short term or occasional use only. Lunesta or Rozerem are much better choices for long term use and are the only ones approved for long term use by the FDA. (Sonata and Rozerem are best used for those who have trouble falling asleep not for those with trouble staying asleep.) Better yet are Tylenol PM (no prescription needed) or Trazadone which can also be used long term. Trazadone was initially created for use as an antidepressant but has a sedation side effect and now has been more commonly used to treat insomnia. Personally I use Trazadone because it works well for me but what works best for one person may not work for someone else. |

When I can't sleep, I usually make myself a cup of warm chamomile tea with a little honey added to it...It usually puts me right to sleep :) I hate when I can't sleep, and I know I have to get up in the morning early for class...This usually helps me. I don't like to take pills at all/ |

Another "natural" suggestion to go along with melatonin is Valerian Root. They are herbal and work along the same line as melatonin. The draw back is, the capsules stink pretty bad. I've heard a few patients say that it's helped them. Good Luck. You really need to get some rest!!! |
