Should I do it....? I'm trying to decide whether or not to get blonde highlights in my hair. :D I've never dyed my hair or done anything drastic like that to it (I know, I'm over dramatic. haha). But I'm starting high school and I've decided it's time to add in some variety to my life lol. There is a woman in my church who is amazing at hair, and she gave my friend highlights. They look so natural and gorgeous. So I'm trying to talk myself into having her do it for me. Is there anyone on here who has gotten blonde highlights? Got any pictures? Pros or cons? Thanks! :) (I don't have any pictures where you can really see my hair right now because I'm sleeping over my aunt's house. But my hair is just like brown and straight. and really thick.) |
Go for it girl! It's fun and if you don't like it, a bottle of Clairol covers it right back up again:p Good luck and be sure to show a pic if you do it! |
I love blonde highlights, but you have to keep up with it. Your brown hair comes in fast! Plus, when you keep getting highlights, eventually your hair will look predominantly blonde. It also makes my hair very dry. I do it every once in a while, but I usually die my hair back to brown when it gets too blonde. :p |
No. And you should stop growing up right now! |
Girl - if you were my daughter I'd say yes because you're going on 16 - I think you'd love the change and if done right will frame your face nicely. It will enhance your self esteem and that's always a good thing - So go ahead and do it - you have pretty hair Megan and as long as you don't turn into a hussy then YES !!! :p :p |
I say do it, it really puts some dimension in your hair so it's not just one flat dull color, you'll love it....if you know someone who's good at what they do, that's a big plus.... My granddaughter and a few put in her hair and it looks like she has been sitting in the sun, it's very pretty.... The down side....ROOTS!!......the upkeep stinks....I've been getting highlights for years, I started out with about 60% my natural color and 40% highlights, after a few years it looked like I had blonde hair with very little highlights showing, the colorist had to put in lowlights (a darker color ) and highlights to get it back to where it was...Every time they do a highlight job they never do the exact same strands they're different ones so eventually all my hair was highlighted....it's back to where it should be now...Good Luck!!. |
Go girl! You'll look and feel great. |
I use to have blonde highlights, and if you have darker hair, you have to go get in done atleast every 2 months. And I just got tired of sitting at the salon all day. But if you want to, I say go for it!!! Post some pics if you get it done. :) |

I have highlights and LOVE THEM...but you really do have to stay on top of them or they look horrible. i go every 6 weeks on the dot to get mine touched up. so if you are ready for that commitment, then GO FOR IT!!! i suggest getting them "weaved" in the first time. i like mine being weaved in rather than pulled through the cap. but that's just me :) |
I say go for it. I have had highlights put in my hair for over 40 years now...and my daughter has highlights...and my10 year old granddaughter even has highlights in her hair. You will love them. |
i love love love my blond highlights. i say DO IT!!!!!!!!! |
2 Attachment(s) Thanks guys!! I'm still a bit nervous because it seems like whenever I see someone my age with blonde highlights, it looks like they took a marker and drew yellow stripes in their hair. But I'm sure since the woman I'm going to ask to do mine is so good, they'll be OK. PS - This is what my hair looks like now. (don't mind the disgustingness of the back. I haven't washed it or anything yet today haha). |
Hi You have the same lenth my daughter has, She is getting married on sat, and went and got highlights, It turned out so nice, I think you would love it.I say go for it:D :D and please post pics;) |
I say 'go for it' Megan. You're starting high school and I can see where you would want it and I think it would be beautiful. Your hair looks so blonde already in the second pic?? |
I say do it....but you do have to keep up with it like someone else already said. I love highlights though - i am sure it will look great. Too funny...I am all blond and wanting to go brown - ha, ha....I just had my girl add brown into my blond hair - i guess we are never 100% happy with what we have naturally huh? :p :p |

Joan - Yeah, I do have some natural blonde in my hair. But that's only there for the summer, so I want to get it highlighted so that it looks that color all year round. |
Ooohhh pretty hair!! What I'd do is get blonde and caramel highlights. It would look so nice with your natural hair color!! I love doing 2 colors rather than 1 color, it makes it looks less harsh/drastic. |
I agree that would be beautiful. Poor Megan, now she has something else to decide on lol |

Your hair is perfect right now. I'd wait and really think about it, because once you start, you have to keep going. You are so young and pretty, this is something you really don't need to do. You're mom showed us a picture, Megan you have great hair. Please think about this first.:hearts-xx Why are all the kids growing up so fast??? |
You have pretty hair that has a touch of blonde to it already. If it is done right I think it would look great. Good luck! |
Thanks. :) I asked how much it would cost and they said $75...which is a lot. I think I'm going to wait until I need it. But I still got my hair cut. I think it looks good. :D It's got long layers and side bangs. |
ive done it many times. i love them. i had blond highlights. just make SURE that whoever does them knows what they are doing. i had one lady one time that everyone said was great...well...she must have been having a BAD day. I asked for a few highlights, i wound up looking like i had blond hair and got a few brown highlights!!! I went straight home a colored it back brown, which is really a big no no. You can also play around and get some blond and some auburn colored depending on your skin type. ive seen those before and i plan on getting some later on. |
just don't do those HUGE thick highlights like a lot of people do because that looks HORRIBLE.i'll be honest...i wouldnt do blonde highlights in brown hair but if you want to id just go pretty small. |
You have a good base color which blonde highlights would only "brighten" your look. I'd say go for it! Keep us posted if you do it! :) PS: Blondes do have more fun! :D |
I think you made a wise decision and that type of haircut is just what I thought would look good on you. $75 is alot of money and think of what a high school student could do with that. Would you honor us with a picture.....pls. |

Good for you!!!!! See you will start High School with a new look after all.:D :D I saw your pictures Megan, if I thought you needed to have the lights I would have said so. But you're hair is so super pretty now, I wouldn't change it. Let's wait and see how it changes before making any changes. Heck, if you really want Highlights all year round, all you really have to do is tell your Mom you want to move out here!!! That will work, so get talking!!!! :yay_jump: :yay_jump: :yay_jump: :yay_jump: PS. Picture Please!!!! :hearts-xx |

Super Cute!!!!!!! (so are ya packing!!!):D :D :D :D :D :D |
I say go for it, but be SO CAREFUL with going blonde! I struggled through 3 years of streaks, orangey brassy color and just total unhappiness and corrective color because of hair stylists that stunk :(. When I moved from my small town to Boston I found an amazing stylist that made me look like I was naturally blonde. It was awesome! I kept it up for 2 years until I moved back to NY (because I dont trust anyone here, lol). It was very expensive for me though. It cost me 300 for the higlights every 2.5-3 months not including hair cuts, or the special products you need to buy for color treated hair. So, I'd definitely look at other people who have highlights, ask who did theirs.. find the BEST person to do it for you. Then make sure you get special shampoos/conditioners that won't strip the color or turn you brassy :). Highlights are fun fun FUN. But, your hair will never be the same once you color it IMO. I started at 15 and haven't seen my "true" haircolor since :). |
love the new haircut i need one so bad but im so chicken !! lol |
