..to pass a kidney stone that the dr is "pretty sure" is small enough to pass on it's own. Haven't had as much pain since giving birth. It stops quick as it starts, tho. ER sent me home with my little bowl with a screen in it and a mama size bottle of pain meds. Nothing has happened over night so I'm gonna go in to work, feel stupid sitting here losing money just to wait. Has anyone ever gone thru this? Will I be sorry? Will my little bowl and I be OK? What should I expect when it happens? I think I can handle the nausea and dizzy but that "pain" that catches you off guard can leave you crying for your mama. Decissions, decissions. Maybe I'll just sit here and wait it out...not really a ladylike thread but we're among friends, right?

A man I used to work with had the same thing happen. He said he went to the store, bought a six-pack of beer and drank it, one right after the other. Supposedly, the alcohol helped ease the pain and all the liquid helped pass the stone. Funny story, but true! Good luck to you.

That's funny, yea, they told me to drink a qt of water per hour :eek: just made the nausea worse. Not enjoying this at at..

Sorry your feeling sick. I have no suggestions except drink, drink, drink. Hoping you pass it soon.

Yeah..I have done this...they just told me to go home and drink water or whatever I wanted..it just takes time and yeah it hurts very badly..I feel for you!

Hope for your sake it ends soon! I have an ex who had one of those once and he was in lots of pain.

OK...here goes

Saturday 6 AM...woke up with a pain on the left side of my back....it begin to radiate around to the front.....I couldn't get comfortable (though I'm not sure I would describe it as bad as labor)....Got up walked around....was nauseated....took a darvocet...tried to lay back down...then finally gave up and told hubby to get up we are going to the ER.

Get to the ER around 8 AM....pain was really bad on the way....could hardly sit still in the car

As soon as I walked into the ER I started feeling better :rolleyes: and after about 15 minutes was wondering why I was even there. Went back and the doctor said I think you have a kidney stone :eek: (that thought have never even crossed my mind although I knew the pain was coming from the kidney..I thought I had an infection). They did a CT scan and told me I had a 2mm stone and it was sitting on top of my bladder, (they also told me I should be past the pain...HA). They sent me home with drugs :yay_jump: and told me I would probably pass it within 24 hrs.

Did not have anymore pain until Monday night I think, and it was the same pain on the left back side but this time it did not radiate to the front, it came on quick and ended quick...lasted about 20 minutes.

Had more pain Wednesday morning, same thing as above, again lasted about 20 minutes. By this time I was beginning to think I would never pass it.

Woke up Thursday morning around 6:30, peed in my little cup :rolleyes: and when I saw the stone, which I now lovingly refer to as "Rocky":rolleyes: I was very :eek: because I didn't feel a thing.

Sorry for the long post, but the biggest problem I had last week was not knowing. Please feel free to PM me if you have anymore questions, believe it or not I did leave out a few of the intimate detais :rolleyes: but for the most part this is how it all went down ;)

Yep, I've been there!

I started having EXTREME pain one night, feeling nauseated, dizzy and just plain awful.

I figured out right away what was going on, even though I had never passed one before.

I had my son call the ER and they told me to come in but I didn't want to. So, it went on for a few hours and you're right - the pain is worse than childbirth - seriously. Then it passed and I happened to get it. It was SO tiny.... I couldn't believe something that small could cause so much pain. :eek: Since then I drink more water and I haven't had any more.... I sure hope I never do. :thumbdown

Just for the record, don't let all the horror stories of men passing them scare you...personally I think they are just wimps:rolleyes:, but the Dr did tell me that the pain is different between a female and a male with kidney stones. For a female majority of the pain is going from the kidney to the bladder. For a male I guess it is the actual passing of the stone....again I just think they are wimps, and as a woman that has given birth 3 times (once to a 9 lb baby) I have absolutely no sympathy for them :D

I just had that 2 weeks ago. I have several small stones in both kidneys and cysts. The cat scan showed them to be small enough to pass without obstructing. It hurt pretty bad the first night but it wasn't too bad. My stones were/are 1 mm. Good luck it shouldn't be too bad.

My husband is always telling me I have a high tolerance for pain, I didn't think so, but maybe I do, because I'm telling you my pain was not worse than childbirth. And compared to some of the childbirth stories I have heard, I don't even think my 3 were as painful as most people. Maybe it is just the fact that the pain didn't last as long with the kidney stone :idontknow

Oh I feel for you ! This is my experience from last year.

Last August 28, 3 days after we got the key's to our new home, and on our move in day, I had the worst pain I have ever felt on my lower right side of my back. I was caring a box up the front steps of the new home, it stopped me dead in my tracks. I am not one for pain so my hubby did not think it was as bad as I was making it out to be, besides he knew that my appendix had been removed 2 years prior, gos back and unloads the van with the stuff we were moving, takes me home and grabs 2 older boy's to help move and left. I was in agony by this time, I could barely walk! I call my mom crying and she said to go to the ER right away. So I call my hubby back and he comes and get's me, by now he see's that I am not over acting and rushes me to ER. Bless them for giving me a narcotic shot right away because I do not remember anything after that shot! They did a cat scan and gave my hubby prescriptions for the pain and sent us home. I was still out of it and have no reclusion of all this. So I wake up the next morning and I am starting to feel PAIN again and I am wondering what the heck is going on with me! My crying as I tried to get up to go potty woke up my hubby and he tells me to lay back down and take this pill. I asked him if the hospital ever found out what was wrong with me and he laughed at me! He goe's "You got a kidney stone! "

Well I was doped up on the drugs for 8 day's when I finally passed not one, but four of the little suckers out:eek: Two were small , like a grain of salt, and the other two were bigger and the Doctor said that if they were any bigger they wouldn't have been able to pass.

I really did not have a thing to do with moving anything into my house at all. And it was all set up without any input from me because I was asleep on the couch the whole time! Also my kids started a new school system and my hubby got them off for their first day all by himself! He likes to tease me about how I really must think I am some kind of princess because I alway's find a way out of getting out of heavy work!

I hope that your stone passes quickly! Drink LOTS of water and get all the rest you can. The meds I was on were powerful stuff, I was out of it the whole time. I only woke to go potty, get a drink or take more pills! I just know that I did not like to move because I would get dizzy and puck allot when I was awake so I just wanted to sleep.

Oh no, I feel so bad for you. I've passed many stones, and they are the most painful thing I've ever experienced. I hope it passes soon.

I do believe that most men are wimps because when they get sick, they act like babies. But, a kidney stone is VERY painful. I'm not a man, but I've passed alot of them so I know how horrible it is. It is worse for a man. The stones have jagged edges on them, they're not completely smooth at all. Sometimes they tear and do damage on the way out.:eek:

I have two brothers who have passed kidney stones. One of them has passed lots, and he usually tolerates the pain okay. My other brother is a big, strong police officer, and passing a stone brought him to his knees. They DO hurt very badly!

Gosh thanks for all the replies! I just came home from work, no problems today..just a little nauseous. The ER dr said the stone was 3 ml's or mm's, whatever, and should pass on it's own. I was hoping it would have happened already because she said it was right there at the opening ready to pass. Maybe this will cut down on the pain because it doesn't have to travel far? Bear with me, I'm grasping at straws here. Did have one little twinge at work and I thought "this is it"..it wasn't. Kind of scared of the pain pills but I bet I'll have no prob when the time comes. :cool: Seriously I'm scared to death, it's like waiting to go into labor. You don't know when it's gonna hit. Guess I'm lucky it doesn't have to travel far...and I HATE WATER! Guess that's why I'm in this fix. So nice of you guys to hang in there with me. At least I'm off work til tuesday. :thumbup:

It's time, it's time omg it's time..god forgive me for everything I ever did wrong. i took the apin med and hard to sit or lat down. hurts so bad gizmo sitting by me with his head on my leg. has got to be over soon..god make it stop. prayers would be good here,omg...:eek: :( :confused:

:lol tears :lol tears Sorry, Denise, I do feel for you. Never had a kidney stone, but I've had tons of gall bladder attacks. They feel like heart attacks (so I've been told). I've got a giant stone that rolls around and sometimes plugs the duct. When I had my amniocentisis(sp) the Dr. doing the ultrasound called in everybody within earshot to "Come look at the size of this thing!" I was a bit embarrassed, to say the least. I had them 3 or 4 times a week, then none for a couple months, then a bunch. Went on for several years. I had one when I was driving - I was in the middle lane and couldn't get out. Bumper to bumper. That one was pretty hairy. Had one at an amusement park standing in line to get in and had to walk a half mile back to the car. Haven't had one in a couple years. Must be it got bored and left. No clue. Anyway, Denise, I hope as I write this, you have given birth and you and your little one(stone, not pup) are getting some much needed rest.

I for one am a big baby when it comes to pain. But I must say this, for a guy to pass a stone and have pain, yep I can see that, but I would also remind them a woman has a baby, way bigger than a stone. It just might make them think. My boys were both over 10 pounds, not easy, but I did it. Something I keep telling my husband, a husband I have had for the past 26 years. :D :D And you can ask anyone who knows me, I DO NOT DO PAIN!

If a stone, and I know nothing about them, have jagged edges on them,:eek: :eek: Yep, it just might hurt coming out of a stick:eek: Can you say OUCH! (but I still think having a 5 -10 pound baby is a heck of a lot harder.

For anyone who has to pass this, I feel for ya!!

The pain has calmed down some. I know I didn't pass it, is it over? Threw up twice. Needless to say I am no longer afraid of pain pills..can be your best friend. Thanks for the laugh tho. ;)
