Buddy-licious | 08-19-2007 05:15 AM | Well, first of all let me say, I HOPE YOU FEEL BETTER SOON!!!
I am a PRO at the ole' kidney stones!!!! My doctor calls me the "Kidney Stone Queen"!!! My first stone was in 1988 and for years to follow I averaged 1 to 2 stones per year. According to my doctor my kidneys are full of stones and it is just a waiting game. I have had numerous surgeries to remove the ones that were too big too pass but I have passed MANY of them. It is the worst pain ever!!!!
Obviously, they sent you home because they feel the stone is small enough to pass. What people do not understand is that even the smallest of stone can cause soooooo much pain. Stones can be the size of a salt granular and STILL cause so much pain. The stones have really jagged edges so they rip and tear as they move. If the stone becomes lodged the urine just backs up and this also causes pain.
Unfornutately, the only way to stop the pain is to pass the stone. I am sure you have learned that the pain can come and go. If the pain is coming and going ....this is good news because this means the stone is moving which is what you need to happen. Try to stay ahead of the pain meds and DRINK, DRINK, DRINK WATER!!!
Hopefully, the doctor told you what to look for when you pass the stone. As I said before it could be tiny...as small as a granular of salt...or I have passed one that was the size a small green pea (OUCH!!!)
Keep us posted!!! Keep drinking!!!! |
