munchausen syndrome look it up... |
Oh yes, a VERY interesting disease. Even worse, however, is Munchausen Syndrome by Proxy - which usually involves a mother inflicting illness on a child - for attention (to her, not the child). I did a presentation on this in nursing school - and it's horrible...and horribly fascinating. These people are indeed very ill and need extensive, long-term help. |
Do you know someone that has it? |
I've seen true crime shows showcasing that illness - it's unreal ...anyone would intentionally make a baby or dog sick is SICK themselves.....Why did you post this - are you dealing with it personally ? |
It relates to the strange threads we have had lately.... |
I'm thinking she's referring to the "Joy" thing, at least that's what I assume - bc that would have been a good example of Munchausen. |
Here's the definition form Wikipedia: Munchausen syndrome is a psychiatric disorder in which those affected feign disease, illness, or psychological trauma in order to draw attention or sympathy to themselves. It is in a class of disorders known as factitious disorders which involve "illnesses" whose symptoms are either self-induced or falsified by the patient. Um yep, sounds like someone we know... |

This is a really sick disease. I had to study this in school and was truly amazed by these people. I understand that these people are sick but it's still very hard to be sympathetic when you hear of the things they've done. These type of people know the hurt they cause but still continue with the lies. I could go on and on but the more I think of this, the more mad I'm getting. Time to go look at some cute yorkie pics!!! :D |
Perhaps "Pathological Liar" is a good option for this person. :thumbdown |
I remember thinking that a neighbor who used to live next door to me had this. She was always complaining that her 1 yo daughter was a brat, had screaming fits in the night, and had to be put on TRANQUILIZERS! I'm sorry, you don't put a 1 year old on stuff like that. That little girl was the sweetest baby. The mom was quite the drama queen--always talking about having problems with herself and her kids. There are a few threads here where I have wondered... |
I wonder what has happened to these people in their earlier life to cause such need for attention. Maybe the obvious "no attention" I'm sure there is alot more to it though. |

Neither is pretty that's for sure |
From Cleveland Clinic: "What causes Munchausen syndrome? The exact cause of Munchausen syndrome is not known, but researchers believe both biological and psychological factors play a role in the development of this syndrome. Some theories suggest that a history of abuse or neglect as a child, or a history of frequent illnesses requiring hospitalization might be factors associated with the development of this syndrome. Researchers also are studying the possible link with personality disorders, which are common in individuals with Munchausen syndrome." I can say, from my own experience as an abused child, that as a result of the abuse, there is indeed a hole in the soul that is NEVER filled - and some fill it w/ drugs, alcohol, eating disorders, Munchausens or...whatever. So, I do have sympathy for this person - however messed up the situation is, that's just what I feel. I'm sorry that her suffering is/was so great that she now has a disorder that causes others to suffer as well (i.e., friends) By the way, I'm not looking for any attention!!!!!!!!! LOL. Gotta have humor, my friends! |
OK...now I get it. I had not yet read the end of some threads. Strange. |
 Was the Joy thing not true? I must have missed something somewherel Wouldn't be the first time. |

WOW! How sad!!!! |
This person in question has some big problems with lies and them snowballing. As I have told a few people I am the one that put her in contact with the breeder to get her second pup. Over the course of that time and afterwards we traded emails. She told me some big whoppers and I figured out pretty early on that she had some problems. When I first started talking with her she was a paralegal. Then when the breeder spoke with her she was a law student, model and had her own jewely company. Then at one point she tells me she got her girl's registration done because she knew an AKC judge. If you knew an AKC judge then how come you didn't get a referral from him/her for your pup that you wanted. I also saw some discrepancies on how she said she was getting the money for said pup. She was borrowing it, then it was the brother owed her and he was paying her back. Then one time she was discussing going to Europe. I told her that she should find a kennel or a friend to board that baby because she would have to sit in quarantine for 6 months before being allowed into another country. She then countered that she was going via a private jet that her uncle owned. Seems that he owns Jet Blue....sound right to you. First off there are so many things wrong there. My boss finances Airplanes for all the big guys. So I personally know with the prices and how things are structured that no one person owns an airline. You can own a plane but most of the time it's shares. But there are those that own a plane but they are big money. Second of all an atty that works with us was transferring to our London Office and she had to put her cats in quarantine for 6 months before they would be allowed over. Lots of flags...I fell for the Nana thing, worried over the dad thing but was a bit skeptical over the current accident....too much (although I know that life takes turns) but it just seemed to weird. I do hope that the other good members that feel duped by her don't walk away. Sometimes we get a rotten apple in the bunch but don't let it take away a pleasure from your own life. Just know that your a good person with a good heart and god is good. |

OHHHHH MYYYYYY! We own a plane and I can't even IMAGINE one person owning an entire airline, LOL:eek: . Even Richard Branson isn't the sole owner of an airline:p . I'm one of the people who was duped and it's still unfathomable to me that someone would say/do stuff like this. I mean, I spent DAYS praying and worrying over the "situation"; but .....like you say, there's always one in the bunch. I'm not leaving here, but it sure does shake your faith in humanity sometimes:cool: . |
