Random NY question
 
what is the difference btween New York CIty and Manhattan?

Manhatten is a borough in NYC but NYC encompasses all of Manhatten, Brooklyn, Queens, etc. I think. :)

New York City is the name of the city. Inside NYC are 5 Boroughs: Manhattan, Queens, The Bronx, Brooklyn, and Staten Island. :D all of which I love

this is my second time but it is my parent's first time.

and sadly Layla will not be coming.. this will be the first time we leave her since we've had her... it will be really hard.... i'm sure as the leaving date gets closer i'll be posting a lot about it.. lol.. i'm stressed about leaving her already...

oh awesome!! your gonna love the city. there is so much to do and see. I love taking people there who have never been before. They are in such awe of the place that it makes me take a second glance around to try and see what they see. I hope you have a great trip! what are you doing with the pup?

Layla will be staying with her WONDERFUL babysitter Lea. She called tonight and Layla is going Friday night for a trial run.... it is going to be so so so hard to leave her.. i can't even think about it...

i know she will do great.. she loves the babysitters but she's never been overnight.. and her babysitter is a night owl staying up till like 1 or 2 (she bakes home made dog treats that she sells to local pet stores) and Layla is usually ready for bed around 10-10:30... but i'm sure they will figure it ou!

Homemade dog treats at 1AM? That should be enough to keep Layla up for sure:p . I'll bet Layla does better than you, the little ones usually do - we Mom's just worry too much. Have a super trip and take lots of pics.

lol... ya... she is in high demand.. she starts around noon every day.. she makes muffins and treats and yogurt popcicles.. she is wonderful!

we are doing the red double decker bus tour.. the 48 hour one... and the boat tour aorund manhattan.. i did that when i was there last may and both were great. We are going to see Wicked on Thursday night. My mom and i saw it in Toronto and we just HAD to see it again!

It's not part of NYC. It's just a drop north of NYC.

Just a factoid - we call Manhattan, "the City." In other words, if I go to Manhattan, I say "I'm going to the City."

Brooklyn is the best borough, Queens has the best food, the Bronx has Yankee Stadium and the Bronx Zoo, and Staten Island is like a small town (very nice, but they're becoming overdeveloped and there's too much traffic).

Maybe some of us can come into the City to meet up with you. Pm us when you get here!

People in NJ just call it "the City" too, usually. :)

Have an awesome time! Manhattan is my favorite place in the whole world! :D I'm gonna live there someday. Actually, we're just missing you by a couple days! My mom and I are going in for like 5 days on the 27th!

It doesn't. Yonkers, Westchester, and Long Island (which we just call "The Island") which some people like to include as a 'sixth' borough aren't part of NYC at all.

it is INCREDIBLE!!! i've seen a lot of plays and this one takes top spot EASILY!!! my dad isn't big on theatre and yet i know he'll LOVE this!!! i just CAN"T WAIT!!!

Staten Island really isn't considered a borough by New Yorkers. Every few years they try to become a city unto themselves, and before the Verrazano Bridge, you had to take a boat to get there. This year they're trying to become a city again. Brooklyn people don't really consider Queens residents "real" New Yorkers. They're more like suburbanites from the Island. We discuss the Bronx in a whisper. We're afraid of it.

we are staying at the Hilton Garden Inn on 8th and 48th. friends of ours stayed there the last time we went and i loved how close it was to the Grey Line bus stop... lol.... i know.... they are everywhere! but when you take the boat tour a bus comes to that stop to pick you up! well that and the hotel was BEAUTIFUL!

Just like all the other boroughs in the city, The Bronx has its bad points but a lot more good points. Having lived all over this great city, the Bronx was one of my favorites...

i have family all over Queens and the Island. Used to have family in the Bronx too but have since moved in with other family because they could no longer live on their own.

I used to work at the Bronx zoo and got to know the area quite well since i had a car and my co-workers wanted rides home :rolleyes: its not so bad
