Our Blessings R Many Donating Member | Important For Cell Phone Users In programing phone numbers into our cell phone this morning, I realized that it was a good idea to put Our Daughter in front of her name and also Our Son in front of our son's name. In case of an emergency they would be identified in the contact list. Thought I would share this with others. Have had cell phone for so many years and never dawned on me to do this, I told my daughter and she said that is a great idea. Wanted to share with other cell phone users. Patti and Jack |

Donating YT 30K Club Member | Good idea. Also I read you should have a number identified as ICE (In case of emergency). Paramedics and police know to look for that.

| Well I thought it was a good idea too, until I got this email: This lady has changed her habit of how she lists her names on her mobile phone after her handbag was stolen. Her handbag which contained her mobile, Credit card, purse...etc.... was stolen. 20 minutes later when she called Her Hubby, from a pay phone telling him what had happened, hubby says "I've Just received your text asking about our Pin number and I've replied a little while ago." When they rushed down to the bank, the bank staff told them all the money was already withdrawn. The pickpocket had actually used the stolen hand phone to text "hubby" in the contact list and got hold of the pin number. Within 20 minutes he had withdrawn all the money from the bank account. Moral of the lesson: Do not disclose the relationship between you and the people in your contact list. Avoid using names like Home, Honey, Hubby, sweetheart, Dad, Mom etc....... And very importantly, when sensitive info is being asked thru texts, CONFIRM by calling back. Also, when you're being texted by friends or family to meet them somewhere, be sure to call back to confirm that the message came from them. If you don't reach them, be very careful about going places to meet "family and friends" who text you. So I stopped doing it and I changed it back. |

| a great idea Two years ago Paramedics suggested using ICE in front of names of people to contact In Case of Emergency ... http://www.snopes.com/crime/prevent/icephone.asp http://urbanlegends.about.com/library/bl_in_case_of_emergency.htm Great Idea, pass it along ... It has been posted in the hospital for at least 2 years now. Quote:

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | I use "ICE" as this is what is recognized by any emergency personnel.

| Also good in case your phone gets lost. My brother lost his once and some kid found it. He looked through the phone numbers and when he saw the one that said "Mom" he called it. She got the kid's info (address) and my brother went & got his phone back from him.

Our Blessings R Many Donating Member | I don't use text messaging and if I did use that I would NEVER give my pin number like that or any important personal information over text messaging. Suprised the husband went ahead and replied, not good thinking on his part. I still think it is a good idea for ourselves and am going to keep ours like this, I for one feel better about having it like this. We also keep our kids name and phone number taped on the front of our dash board of our vehicle for emergency notification along with our Physicians card with his phone number on it. Thanks Janie for the info on ICE. Patti and Jack |
