Where were you???? I thought it would be really interesting if everyone could tell where they were and what they were doing when they found out the horrible news of 9/11...for me, being young, this was one of the first major events in history that I clearly remember what I was doing the moment I was told... I was a swim practice that morning and our coach normally watch the news while we did our workout...but this morning he was letting us play around a little bit and some of us were watching the tv with him...it was then that we heard about it, no one could believe it and as we sat and watch it, we all saw the 2nd plane hit the tower!! It was the most incredible, saddening, and scariest thing I have heard seen in my life...I immediately called my mom just to hear her voice and tell her what happen...I just remember the rest of the day at school we just watched the news and leaned on each other for support!! I was foruntate not to know anyone in the attack but was still very affected by the disrespect that was shown to our country!!! Please tell us your story.... |
I was in my final semester at college. We had a 9 AM class and I had just walked into the dean's office to do my usual chatting with the secretary when we got a phone call as to what happened. We all immediately went into the computer lab where our class was held and got online to see all the developments for ourselves. We were all in disbelief when we watched together as the 2nd plane hit the towers. |
I was sitting in my 1st period english class when it happened, someone came in and told us about it but we didn't really know the extent. Once I got in my 2nd period class we turned on the TV and watched in disbelief. Our Spanish teacher let those that wanted to form a circle in the middle of the classroom and say a prayer. (With laws the way they are she could've gotten in big trouble but she said she didn't care and prayer was what those people needed the most right now) Great teacher huh?? I don't think I'll ever forget that surreal feeling of "Oh my God how can that happen in the US" |
I work in NYC...So I was just arriving into work when the 2nd plane hit...It was on TV in the lobby of our office...All I remember was being numb for a moment...I knew my sister worked only 2 blocks from the WTC...I was frantic...I called her cell no answer, i called my mom at work to see if she heard from her, she didnt...After about an hour she called my mom and said she and her co-workers were in a bar still stuck in downtown manhattan...But she was ok and that was all that mattered...She saw the first plane hit the first..SO it is something in her memory forever...It took me almost 4 hours to get home that night...The whole entire city was basically shut down...You coudl see the smoke billowing for miles...It is a day I will NEVER forget... |
It's amazing how bad things stick in your mind. 911 and the day Kennedy was shot. On 911, I was exiting off the interstate. Every morning I listen to a radio station that is even broadcast on tv (Turner South). This particular morning they were watching as the plane hit the first tower. Like everyone, I was in disbelief. I was within 2 blocks of work and ran in to turn the tv on the news. We were watching as the 2nd plane hit. My youngest daughter just returned from a trip to NY and part of her trip was to ground zero. When she called to tell me about it, I have never heard her cry like that. She said mom to see it is unbelievable. There is a quiet peace that is unexplainable. She said mom, we were standing where all these people lost their lives, and I didn't know it would hit me like that. The Lord above and prayer are all that can heal the pain we have suffered. |
I was home preparing to go to work when I heard the horrible news . The first plane was in the building and then I saw the other one arriving . |
I was at a funeral home with my husband, waiting for his aunt's funeral to start. We always have the radio on in the car, but we didn't turn it on that morning as were enjoying a nice conversation without the kids around. Kenny's cousin came in and said she and her sister were leaving to go home to Washington DC because 2 planes had rammed in to the WTC. then they heard about the Pentagon and were frantic to get home to their kids. (all were fine) I came in to work the next day to find out that a woman I work with lost her brother in the WTC. I've been to ground zero, it is an unbelieveable experience to stand there and think about what happened. |
I was at work, It was my fisrt day in that particular branch and we had just happened to turn the radio on when we heard the bad news. I can remember everything excatly how it happen that day to what I ate for breakfast to what I was wearing to the complete silence in the branch. It just wont leave my head. |
I was living in NYC at the time and was at home with my kids and I never put the tv on in the morning but for some reason I did that day. I saw the 2nd plane crash into the tower and I just stood there in disbelief. I called my husband and then I tried to get in touch with my friends and family who worked in the city. One of my best friends was traveling into the city and thank God her bus was stuck in traffic! She worked at the World Trade Center and would have been there! It's still seems surreal. |
. I Was At Work At Jfk Intl Airport...after The Second Plane It I Saw Smoke.... Minutes Later I Saw No Towers.... I Had A Cousin Who Had Worked In The Twin Towers And Is No Longer With Us... I Will Never Forget That Day And The Emotions Of All Of Us... |

Thank You, The Worst Part Of It Was When I Had To Go To Memorial For My Cousin And His Three Little Girls And His Wife Totally Out Of It.... Hysterical.....i Lost It |
I can't even say I understand because that wouldn't be true. The depth of pain was so overwhelming for everyone involved. I just sat in front of the tv all day crying my eyes out to what I was seeing and being so thankful my family and friends were safe. I'm sorry it touched you so closely. I hope his wife and kids are okay. |
So sorry to all who lost loved ones. I was laying in bed EARLY that morning realizing I was in labor with my second son, got up and turned the news on just as the second plane crashed into the building. My labor stopped a few hours later, many people calling me to tell that I just could not let this little boy out on a day like that. He finally came on the 14th. |
I remember it so well...I had stayed home from school for no reason at all. I had told my mom I just didn't want to go to school that day..which was something i never did, I loved school....SO i was sleeping in my bedroom when my mom woke me up. I got into her bedroom where the tv was on and I watched the second plane hit. I got to watch all of the news that day, and to this day I trust my instinct on everything. SOmething in me told me to skip school that day. It's not that I would have been hurt at school I might not have gotten to watch as much news and it was really comforting to have my mom there to help me through it. |
I was getting ready for work when the news came on the today show. Then I was at work watching on the tv all day. My company had some offices in the towers (on the 5th floor) and luckily all people got out but one person who was at a class at Cantor Fitzgerald. It was so freaky because we worked closely with everyone at the NY office and couldn't get a hold of anyone....we had clients calling and asking us if everyone was ok. We didn't hear anything until later in the day when one of the mangers in NY called and let us know what was going on. |
I was in class and everyone headed to the library to watch t.v. in there all day. |
I was at work in a meeting when the first plane hit, went downstairs of our building to a TV when the 2nd plane hit......I was sooo scared as I have many friends that work and live there and we had an office in the Financial disctrict of Manhatten. |
I was folding laundry in the laundry room and my sons were home from school sick with chicken pox. I remember my older son yelling to me to come look there were planes crashing. We lived like a mile from the airport in our area at the time and could see it from our house so I ran to the living room and saw the second plane crash on the tv. Right away it brought tears to my eyes watching that. My sons asked why I was crying so I told them that it was bad guys doing all that and they just sat with me and hugged me while I cried. I have a cousin who at the WTC. He is no longer with us. 4 days after 9/11 his wife gave birth to thier first child. Very emotional for us. |
We had stopped to buy me some new clothes on the way to work matthew went to radio shack while i looked around next door in Catos. When i was done i went over and he was like wow whats this movie on tv and they were like dude where have you been its not a movie its real and they told us what was going on. On the way to work we turned on the radio and they were live and you heard people screaming oh my god they are jumping out of the buildings and at that point i made matthew turn the radio off. I know many of you may not agree with me but it was like reliving the Oklahoma City Bombing all over again all i could think is god just when you think you are safe look what happens. |
I was home and asleep. When I woke up my roomates boyfirend told me what happened. My husband(fiance at that time) was at a job interview(where he now has worked ever since) and everyone there watched the news on TV in someone's office. So Sad :( |
i was at home with my dad and fiance (bf at the time) and we watched it on TV.... it was terrible, it was like one of those movies, very surreal to know that it was real life...... in the days after it they came out with all those videos that people shot, at that point i turned off the tv, i didnt need too see 360 degrees of the destruction from thousands of different view angles.... we were all in the living room..... then u went to work, and qietly let them know, we were not allowed to discuss it at work and must appear normal and happy |
I was in Scotland visiting my mum @ the time & it was tottally weird,i awoke very early that morning about 3am,i had a nightmare planes were crashing,so i awoke with a feeling something tragic has happened,& i was in a sweat... About 9am i put on the TV & heard of the tragady! I was devastated,i just burst out crying... Every channel was the same___________I was to fly back 2 days later, back to Canada, where i live, everything was cancelled.... I am Going to Scotland in July,my first time back since the dredded "NIGHTMARE"..... No one will ever forget that day...It is etched in our minds....TRAGIC.. |
I was driving into Washington D.C.! When they hit Tower II I turned around and went home! |
I was in Las Vegas staying at the Lexor right next door to New York New York. Was pretty quiet in casino as everyone was in there room watching the news. I was one of the lucky ones to get fight same day I booked it just at another time. |
I was at work. Just got in before one of my co-worker said that "there was a horrible accident, a plan flew into the twin towers" by the time I got into the conference room I watch the second plan hit the tower. Of course like the world, I spend the rest of the day in the conference room watching the horror of the tower burning up and falling down. :( |
I just found this thread after reading a post about the Flight 93 movie that is coming out today. Just thought it would be fitting to bring the thread back again, in membrance to those on Flight 93. :usaheart: :yribbon: :yribbon: :usaheart: On 9/11/01, I was on my way to Temple for my 9 o'clock class. I was on the Ben Franklin Bridge (a bridge that takes you from South Jersey into Philly) when I was listening to the radio. Suddenly they interrupted the music to go to their sister station in NYC where they were talking about the first plane. While they were talking about the first plane, the second plane hit. All you could hear was screaming, crying, and confusion. I was stuck in the middle of the bridge when this was all happening....and I was scared out of my mind. I just so happened not to have taken my cell phone to school that day, so I could not get in contact with my mom or father. I was particularly scared for my father because he works in the buildings in Center City Philly sorta like the twin towers (Liberty Center) and I had no idea if there were more planes coming or where they were going. There were all these rumors going around that they were shutting down the bridges in Philly. I finally drove to my grandmother's apt and called my parents collect to let them know I was ok. I didn't get home until much later that night. 9/11/01 is a date that all of us will always remember. God Bless America and our Troops! :usaheart: :usaheart: :yribbon: :yribbon: |
I was getting my daughter ready for school, Kindergarten, when she said "mommy, whats happening?" They had interrupted her cartoons and she had been watching the news, it was all very confusing to her... and then the first plane to hit. Thats when she called me. I came out to the living room with the hairbrush and hair bands to finish her hair and I said "happening where honey?" And thats when I saw the TV... At first I thought she had played with the remote... That it was on the wrong channel. I changed it but the picture stayed the same... again and again! It took a minute for it to really sink in... I could not belive what was happening. I sat there in a trance brushing my 5 year olds hair while watching it all unfold live on TV.... When the second plane hit I was so numb... and my daughter said, "mommy? Why would someone fly a plane into a big building like that?" It was enough for me to snap out of it and tell her that I did not know... But that I did know she was going to be late for school! So I gathered her things and ran her down the street to school... the whole time thinking... OMG! OMG! OMG! I kissed her Good Bye, and told her to learn lots! Went back home and watched the buildings fall... Thank God my daughter did not see me fall apart! Thank God she never knew how scared her Mommy was! Thank god I had those few hours to freak out so I could pull it together for her when she came home! I will never forget that feeling in the pit of my stomach... the same feeling I have right now just writing about it... |
I was at work, and we have a tv, we had the today show on and they were showing the first tower, when they didn't know what happened, my coworker and I were watching then the second plane came in the screen, it was unreal, I will never forget the feeling, realizing this is intentional! |
I was at work, alone. Heard on the radio a plane (they thought a cessna) had run into the first tower. Kept working at my desk. A factory rep called me on the phone and asked if I heard what had happened...told him the small plane story. He says "go turn on the tv...I'll hold on". Turned it on and was amazed and stunned. I watched the second plane hit...thinking Oh my God. He and I are still on the phone....watching...then he says they're gonna collapse. I told him....no, they're not...why do you say that? Then he gives me an explaination in engineering....not long after they collapsed. It was awful....watched TV the rest of the day. The only time my phone rang was my husband calling and telling me the government had shut down the Navy yard where he works. THAT scared me...cause they never ever shut down...for anything. It scared my husband so bad he went to our dd's school and spent the rest of the day with her class. PS The kids had not been told anything had happened....the prinicipal told hubby....please don't say anything. My niece worked directly beside the Pentagon. She felt it, and smelled the smoke at her office. They shut down their office and let everyone go...Jenn stayed. Her mother called her and asked why she hadn't left...she wanted her to go. Jenn told her...mom, I can see the interstate, it's wall to wall cars and they are NOT moving....I don't think I'm MORE safer ON the interstate than right here. Btw, the engineering lesson I was told the day of? Watched a documentary....and almost word for word....the reason the towers fell was just as he said. There was not any way they were NOT going to collapse.... |
