No Joke Thread I Need Help!
 

Im not going to make this long and go through the hows as I wanna post this fast I can answer questions as they come.

2 Jack Russel Terrier/Pug mix has been pruchased THEY ARE SOOOO SMALL I instantly suspect something, one is taken to the vet, The vet says the pup is 2 WEEKS OLD!:eek: So I contact the other person and tell them the baby you have is 2 weeks old they start tripping. Young couple just learning about dogs. I tell the guy to come over and I sit him down and lecture him, Gave him a full tube of Nutrical and say gice 3 times a day inbetween meals, I give him a bag of Innova Puppy food and tell him SOFTEN, I also give him 2 cans of soft puppy food. What else do I tell him to do (beside the obvious get to the vet) I Also wrote a note to the vet telling what I have told them to do, I told them to take a stool sample in, Puppy needs to be dewormed, and I also requested that when vaccines are give DO NOT GIVE LEPTO. Test for coccida, giardia, camphy, all worms, etc.. I told him another vet had said his litter mate was 2 weeks old so thats the suspected age.

WHat else can I tell these kids? They are VERY upset and VERY willing to do what it takes, as am I I said if it gets too much or you need a break bring him over.... Should the puppy be getting the milk that replaces mothers milk? He is eating soft food which leads me to believe he is more than 2 weeks, I would guess(but Im NOT a vet) he is 4 weeks. Eyes open, alert, and eating 5 times a day. HELP I AM SO SCARED FOR THIS BABY

OMG! This is scary. I wonder if they should be giving some kind of puppy formula or puppy "gruel"?? I just don't have the best advice for this age pup - but I'm sure the wonderful breeders will chime in w/ great advice!

I would run to petsmart asap and get Mother's replacement dog formula and start bottle feedings to supplement the food he is eating; they still nurse at 4 weeks even if they are starting to wean.

Thats what Im hoping for. Oh, by the way....this lady HAS been turned into Humane Society, and Animal Control is guiding these kids parents throught the steps. I hope this lady that is selling these babies goes to hell for this. I dont say that about people in jest, she is no different than the Michael Vicks in this world. I just want to cry. What about these 2 babies litter mates??? A normal litter for these 2 kinds of dogs is 4-6. I am so angry I am beside myself. I know where she lives and I am REALLLLLY tempted to go to her house and tell her EXACTLY what I think. Id also like to break in her house and steal her dogs every last one of them. Sorry I know that stealing is a sin but I think God would understand....dont you??

Okay I am printing these posts in a little while and just showing the new owners so they know i am not tripping about nothing. this is VERY serious and these pups need to much to develop properly the effects of this may not show for years but someday if not taken care of right the dogs are bound to have problems.

they purchased this young? What about the mother?
how about giving them some (ground up very fine) dog food , mixed with some baby rice cereal and replacement milk?

I'm so sorry your going through this right now. I don't have any advice to give but I will be keeping you and these puppies in my prayers.

Yes they purchased this young neither knew better! One is a 17 yeard old girl, and they other purchaser bought one for his girlfriend who is 18. The breeder told both the pups were 6 weeks. She never let them in the house she brought the pups outside, so I know nothing about the mom. The lady said they were Puggles. The vet said No they are Jack Russel and Pug mix....breed doesnt matter I just want to give these kids a list of what exactly these babies need. Both are scared and very very upset. One came to my house last night. I loaded him up with what I had on hand. I know nutrical is NOT enough or a great thing to give as its so high in sugar. Thanks for advice keep it coming!!! I have a feeling Im going to end up taking one of these babies on....for a few weeks at least. :confused:

Oh and the ground fine food, do you mean like grining the Innova puppy kibble? Can they used canned Innova or is the ground kibble better?

When Livi was about 3 weeks old her breeder was giving her goats milk. I would see what their vet recommends and maybe send a PM to Mardelin to see what else she would do.....just a thought.

Oh, and I would definitely feed wet puppy food....maybe Canidae or Nature's Variety.

That SUCKS that breeder let them go like that - talk about GREED ! I wish you all the best - chances are they'd be so much better off together until they get a little older but other than that I don't know what to say - you already seem like you have it under control and good for you stepping up. That breeder needs the wrath of the Yorkie MAFIA coming down on her :mad: :mad: - that's just disgusting she'd sell 2 week old puppies to people who aren't experienced :(

Worming and socialization
 

Here are 2 things the new owners will have to take on that a good breeder does before you get the puppy

Worming the orphaned puppy is no different than with unorphaned puppies. Most worming programs begin at about four weeks of age.

The American Association of Parasitologists and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention have made the following recommendations for deworming puppies:

Every 2 weeks until 3 months of age
Once a month from 3 to 6 months of age
After 6 months follow adult recommendations which are to treat regularly (example: four times a year), considering potential exposure to parasites and prepatent periods (time from when parasite enters the body to the appearance of eggs in the stool).
Socialization
It is important for the orphan puppy to have interaction with members of the household at 5-6 weeks of age. Remember, it is still a baby and must be handled with care, but you should start to introduce the pup to noises, grooming procedures, new people and pets. Early socialization and enabling the puppy to feel secure in its own environment will help prevent many problems from arising in the future.

when mine were little , I ground up some dog food in my food processor almost to a powder and mixed with the human baby food cereal and made it wet very wet with the milk replacement, like the kind you buy at the pet store or maybe even goat milk that you can purchase at the grocery store.( goat milk is more expensive)
SICK THE COPS ON THAT LADY FOR DOING THAT. GET THE VET TO BVACK YOU UP ON IT.

Ohhh FOR SURE I will not rest until this lady pays. I am so upset by this...these poor unsuspecting kids payng 60 dollars for a baby that has soooo many odds against them. I have MANY Cop friends(i was engaged to Trooper for 4 years ;) )....she isnt getting away with this. I promise that.

Seriously you should have seen this kids face, Poor 18 year old boy trying to do somthing nice for his GF, He was just sitting there staring at me with a blank face going uh hu uh hu scared crapless. He is my daughters Boyfriends older brother. I said, um EJ want me to write this down??? Uh hu. I starting thinking OMG is he even listening??? then as he walked away from me with his brother I heard him say...SHe just saved this dogs life, well I hope she did, This dog BETTER not die, we love him. Then I knew okay, he was listening...he was getting emotional and holding back :) Im waiting for tdessaur to get up (she loves her sleep) and I am going to see what she thinks about going to this ladys house with me:thumbup:

Mother's replacement milk; Either Esbilac or Just Born... Week 3 attempt mixing Gerber's rice ceral with mother's replacement milk and a bit of Karo syrup. Make sure all is at room temperature.

These little guys don't have their teeth in yet...so every thing should be kept at a liquidie consistency.

Becareful with over doing the NutriCal...

Pups are just beginning to retain their own body temperature, so keep them warm.

Shots shouldn't be attempted until they are 8 weeks of age. Tell them to keep them away from people until 10 days after their first innoculations, only to be handled by them and make sure that when they do that their hands are clean. Keep bedding clean....

Take a stool sample to the vets...oh! they must learn to diaper these pups, as their bodily functions probably aren't functioning normally yet.

You guys need to get some Ebilac and a syringe or baby bottle and start feeding these puppies. I dont think 2 weeks is old enough to be feeding regular puppy food even if it is ground up. If they arent going potty by themselves, you need to stimulate them to do so also. Good luck!!!!

This is why I think they are more like 4 weeks they are walking around, eating canned food and pooing abd peeing on thier own....I have no idea what vet said 2 weeks, but i really think they are off a bit. the little boy was even chasing his own tail...at 2 weeks motor skills would not be that up to par. Am i thinking right here???

I second, the puppy formula. I had an orphaned kitten (2 weeks old) and bottle fed him. Also, just a thought but would one of the vet technicians at the hospital be willing to keep the pups at the hospital and take care of them. The vet tech. would be more experienced and the pups would be close to a vet. in case? A lot of times they will volunteer to do this. Maybe you could call and ask. Elaine

Check on the lemon law in the state where these pups were obtained. Most states have a law that pups can't be sold until 6 weeks of age.

I hope they do listen to you, so the puppies don't die. I would definetly confront the woman selling them.

I am not familiar with babies of those breeds but if they are running around and chasing their tails I would think they are older than 2 weeks old. I think if it were me I would still do the Esbilac for a while. It couldnt hurt and who knows how these guys were taken care of before now so they may need the extra nutrients anyway.

I agree with you all. I do not believe these pups are 2 weeks, but ARE too young to be from mom. They are pooing and peeing. I Do know how to raise orphaned cats witht he having to stimulate them to potty and feed through syringe and all. When I was 14 I was given a cat from the pound that was 3-4 weeks old and they said he had distemper Took him to the vet they doctored him up as much as possible yet vets exact words to me were if he makes it through the night it will be a miracle. Well 2 years ago I had Punk put to sleep at the ripe old age of 19 and 7 months! He was 23 pounds and a Giant love ball! I rarely slept and I tube fed and stimulated every 2 hours. He was raised on goats milk, crushed kibble, bread and sugar. Im not sure if replacement formula was even available then but I made up my own stuff and it worked! When I leave work I am printing this thread and giving it to the parents and the kids who adopted these babies and praying they all do the right thing. I feel they will. I am checking law in Michigan for what age pups can be sold now I wanna try and shut this lady down, HARD! :mad:

If they are lapping up food, they should be fine. Puppies can be weaned as early as 3 weeks if it is necessary. I weaned mine on canned goats milk and baby rice cereal. then gradually added canned food, a tiny bit at first then gradually increased.
